Today, the 27th, was my first fill date. I decided to not have a fill. I have 3cc in my band from my surgery date, and that still is working fine. It seems to me if I get desperate, I can go back in for a fill. I have my next fill date for December 10th.

Hello, banded on 9/15/2009
travel replied to dandeegan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Dan, There is a list of September09 bandsters, add your name to the list! It is on page 87. September 2009 Band Date - Page 86 - LAP-BAND® Surgery and LAP-BAND® Discussion Forum we also post here- September 09 Bandsters You have lost a lot of weight, congratulations! Measure your food so you get no more than 1 cup a meal, or go by what your surgeon says. It helps me to think that my pouch is still healing, and I need to be very careful with it! I worried about all my pains, too. I have a list from the surgeon of when to call in when having certain symptoms. Wishing you a great journey ahead. -
September 2009 Band Date

I'd love to see everyone on one list! Who can do this? Combine all lists so all names are on one list. This list seems to have everyone up to this date, then other lists that are shorter are added to at later dates... -
How (if at all) do you tell a new guy about your band?
travel replied to AmIDoneYet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Why is eating together the most enjoyable thing to do? I think of all the other activities that could be enjoyed together. We are always working our band, and I think we need to keep thinking about non-food activities. Make a list of activities that you think you would both like, besides eating. With your men friends and women friends. I agree with post #4! -
September 2009 Band Date

It's good to read how everyone is with their band. Those of you that haven't posted in a while, let us know how you are now. I think about those of you that haven't posted here in a while. I use the scales during my medical appointments to record my weight. At home, I can't stay off the scale, and I find it fascinating how the weight changes up and down post-band. Last night it read 211, this morning 200! That's not unusual to have a 10 lbs change in 24 hours after the band. Post band, though, often the lowest weight is in the evening... My first fill will be the end of October. So far no problems keeping the food portions small. It helps for me to eat every 2 1/2 hours, or 4-5 meals and snacks a day. -
I just looked at two of my refried bean cans. Amy's has 440 mg sodium, and Bearitos has 530 mg. It seems like it's difficult to get lower sodium. I like the canned diced green chiles for flavor, but I guess they have a good sodium content, too. Refried Beans with Roasted Salsa and Monterey Jack | WholeFoodsMarket.com

I'm so busy keeping track of protein and fiber, etc., that sodium gets neglected. It's great if you can keep an eye on it! I've just noticed all the organic refried beans on the market now. Quite a selection. I would prefer homemade, too, but I also like to keep some emergency fast foods on hand, living in earthquake country. Like canned beans that can be eaten straight out of a can. Have you looked at Eden's recipes? Eden Foods - Mexican/Spanish - Recipes

My weight after banding has changed by ten lbs in a day. This happens often, at least a 6-10 lbs change, going up and down and up in 24 hours! I'll often weigh less in the afternoon than the morning. The scale numbers are fascinating for me, and I check often! I just record the medical appointment weights.

I love homemade seitan, it's easy to make, yet I've been buying the seitan in the store lately, which isn't nearly as good... I drank a lot of miso after banding. I talked to my nutritionist about the foods I wanted to eat. Would moisturizing your mouth help? My mouth is always dry, and this helped me. It was okay by my surgeon .Biotene ® Mouth Spray I found it in the grocery store in the mouthwash section. Also, the posicles or using ice chips.

If portion control is a problem, measure out the servings in advance and put in zip lock bags. I keep my nuts and seeds in the freezer. I also regularly have fresh ground flax seeds. I've been eating seitan, and it goes down fine. I think I'll grind the next batch, though. I worry about chewing it into small enough bits. I have more links, let me know if you want them.

OMG! A Yummy Snack:)

I'm eating nuts and seeds at three weeks, with my NUTs permission. I find they ground down in my mouth like the chewable vitamins. My weight loss is still good. I love nuts and seeds, and yet don't find them a trigger food. 1/8 cup does fine for me. I get the sprouted pumpkin seeds, dry roasted soy nuts (at Costco), flax, hemp...My fat totals stay decent for the day, and the nuts and seeds up the protein, besides the fiber that is also difficult to get enough of. Thanks for the information on the almonds. -
Hi, I just arrived back home after camping for a week. I'm glad to read that your surgery was a good experience! Usually, someone will add your name to the 09/09 list, if you ask. I didn't know how to, it was done for me!
-
Hi, have you seen all of us September bandsters here: September 2009 Band Date My surgeon said to keep the protein up by week two as that would help the healing. My weight has been up and down 10 pounds the last week. I think it's the water weight when it's higher. Are you drinking sugar free orange juice? I'm not supposed to have any calorie drinks. Wishing you a good year ahead!
-
I sure hope you have no more problems. Are you more sore since they had to go back and re-do the surgery? Do they use the same incisions, since they haven't healed yet? I can't imagine having the same surgery twice, one right after the other. Best wishes to you for a trouble free future. Let us know how your progress is. Anita

Hi Dee, for me, I didn't notice any swelling! I hope your tummy goes down quickly. I would think the walking would take care of it... -
nausea-no 2 week liquid ( we were given a certain amount of meal replacement drink powder to have each day) pre-op diet with 2-4 cups of certain vegetables for a 10% weight loss had a pre-op class, then chest x-ray, upper GI, EKG, h-pylori after surgery, at least 48 hours of clear liquids, then if we felt ready move on to full liquids (thinned creamed cream of wheat, thinned mashed potatoes, as long as it could still pour off a spoon) The main thing is to allow your surgery to heal. Follow your Dr. guidelines exactly during the healing phase especially.

I was still in the hospital when the shoulder pain started. It took about six hours to get the pain under control. Interesting that mine move up to my left neck area. I haven't had any problems since. I had the hiatal hernia repair, too, and I thought that would make the shoulder pain more of a problem for a longer time. Someone else I know had her surgery the end of August, and still has debilitating shoulder pain at times. Anita -
Interesting pre-surgery reading...Thank goodness I didn't read this until after surgery!

Follow the rules. The weight loss is 2/3 our effort, and 1/3 the band ( my Dr. said!) If getting WLS, you will make a commitment to change your lifestyle. If you are not ready for a new lifestyle, and willing to follow your doctor's guidelines, then you are not ready for WLS.

Hi Margie, I haven't heard of the disk o gram. I guess I don't need it for my spinal disease! I'll be interested in your test results. I'll need a spinal fusion. I just had 2 epidural nerve blocks in my lumbar spine in March, and I'm currently doing okay. My bad pain is often in my hips, which can, like last winter, make walking interesting. Anita -

Hi Argyle, I think you have the most exciting week of any of us! I hope you can get some sleep or rest in! I froze many of my post-op liquids in ice cube trays. An ice cube size is 1 oz. That way, I had measured fluids ready for the microwave. I did broths, and pureed soups, which I was allowed on day 3. Also creamed hot cereal was frozen in ice cube trays. That way I didn't have to think about food prep post-op, and liquids were measured, so logging them was easy. My Dr. wants to look at our food logs, so that helps keep me on track! I had only 48 hours of clear liquids, and then if I felt ready I could start on full liquids. Anita
