I'm moving into solid foods in a couple of days. :clap2: What are good foods to start with in the beginning? I'm just craving some sushi, but I'm sure that should wait a while. LOL Are some foods better starting foods than others? Thanks!!!

Queen... Are you going back to TJ for your fill or having it done locally? I'm going back to TJ for mine, hopefully on Oct. 2nd. Let me know!

My goal for October 1st is to lose 10 lbs. I was 248 when I decided to have surgery and 238 on surgery day. I've been bouncing around with the same pound since Sunday now (229-230). I really don't understand why since I've been having no more than 600-700 calories a day. Still on liquids, but have added in a bit of cottage cheese. I know if I exercised it would help, but I came down with Shingles this week and am in a lot of pain. Dr. said it was probably the stress from surgery that brought it out. I guess exercise will have to wait.

I was banded two weeks ago yesterday. Everything was going well until Monday. I started having this weird skin pain on the left side of my rib cage, right above my incisions. It felt like my skin was burned. It wasn't a deep pain, so I knew it probably wasn't due to my surgery, but I couldn't help thinking that somehow it was (maybe a nerve that was cut or something). The pain continued to get worse to the point where it hurt to wear clothes. The incisions look great and no sign of infection. I saw my dr. this morning and it seems I probably have shingles. YUCK! They say that the stress of the surgery could likely bring this out. I am in so much pain. Just when I started to exercise, this happens and now I'm pretty much unable to do anything today...just lay in one position. That's the only way the pain is bearable. Has anyone out here had shingles? If so.....do you have any hints to make this more bearable? No bumps yet....they say they can take a week to appear after the initial pain.

Yes, I did get an Rx for Zovirax. I didn't realize it came in liquid, so I'm just crushing pills and putting it in a little bit of applesauce. Hopefully it will start working. Dr. said that most people don't realize that something is wrong until the blisters/rash starts to appear and then they go to the Dr. and are given the Rx. Since I went in earlier than most (I was concerned that something might be wrong with my incisions) he is hopeful that I should have a good recovery. Regardless...this just plain "sucks".

I think it's just the way the alcohol is in Mexico. I went to a diff. surgeon, but I went to the store the day after surgery to buy alcohol to take the stickiness off my body from the betadine. YUCK. It smelled so sour.

YES!!!!!!!! At least it sure felt like they were glued out of the way. That was the first thing I noticed after surgery. LOL

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz and was told no "crunches" for 3 months. Is this because the movement of the "crunch" could cause problems during healing?...OR....does this mean no ab exercises at all for 3 months? What were you told?

Hi! I was just banded 8/16 by Dr. Ortiz. I live in Agoura Hills.
-
Hi, It's Kirsten!!! Glad to hear you're doing well!
-
I was told by my surgeon that coffee is ok post-op. Just no milk with it for the first week.

I've never gone diving, but I sure plan on it. According to Dr. Ortiz's book, it's ok to dive! :clap2:

Awwwwwwwww......I miss you guys too! :cry Just remember....We're all going to meet again on a cruise next year, right????? I'm doing good on my liquids. Just sticking to some Gatorade, broth, and watered down juice so far. I finally had a bit of Jello today because I felt hungry for the first time. I went to my dad's suprise birthday party last night and didn't even feel tempted with the food, and boy did it look good. :clap2: I am feeling a bit hungry tonight again, but I seem to do okay after drinking. I'm just trying to hold out till day 8 when I get to add some yogurt. I had major gas until last night. I was up and around on my feet a lot, but don't think I was really "walking" enough. I feel so much better now. No pain anymore, but I'm having a major allergy attack so I'm miserable tonight.

I was just banded on Wed. 8/16 by Dr. Ortiz. Looking back, I wouldn't hesitate to go alone. You will be well taken care of. But....if you would like someone to go with you, I need to go for my first fill in the beginning of October. Let me know and maybe we can schedule it for the same time and I'll help you out. :biggrin1:

Ok....everytime I try to lose weight, I become addicted to the scale. I hop on at least 3 times a day to see where I am....even though I KNOW it hasn't moved. LOL When I did Atkins, I used the keto-sticks every time I pee'd to make sure they still turned pink. Does anyone else get like this? I am getting next week, and don't want the scale to run my life. I might just have to throw it away and drive somewhere to weigh myself.

Not doing so well on pre op diet
Kirsten117 replied to Teresa'sTurn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, it will be worth it! This morning I haven't had my "breakfast". I'm at the point where I think I'd rather starve and not drink another Slimfast. I'm hungry but just don't think I'll be able to get it down. -

Sorry I snapped. This pre-op liquid diet is killing me. I have been so bitchy. I think the last line of my original post was that I wanted to hit someone......well, last night I would've gladly hit you! LOL To hear that you didn't have to do the pre-op sent me over the edge. Ok...off to the kitchen to get my Breakfast....YUMMMMM....Slimfast! :sick -
Does anyone have a scale addiction?
Kirsten117 replied to Kirsten117's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL! I am soooooo glad I'm not the only one who does this. I hopped on the scale first thing this morning....and then again AFTER I pee'd. LOL -

Well, consider yourself the lucky one then. This post was in the "support" section of the board. I think this post was meant to get some support...not the "rub it in" post that YOU didn't have to endure this. -
Not doing so well on pre op diet

Today was day one of my pre-op diet. My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 16th. My diet consists of one slim fast for Breakfast, one for lunch, another for dinner. Oh....and up to 4 lbs of green veggies a day. Well, today I made it through 2 shakes. I couldn't stomach another one. Couldn't even get the veggies down. I am starving!!! I don't know how I'm going to get through 6 more days of this. I have never been this miserable before. :cry It makes matters worse that I am on my 7th day of no smoking. Between not smoking...and not eating....I just want to hit someone. LOL I'm sorry you are having problems also.... I was told I could take 2 doses of Metamucil if I am really hungry, so I will go to the store tomorrow and get some to try. Kirsten -
My skepticism comes from...A) This is her first post. :scared: She has provided NO details about herself or her banding other than this. C) She was just one day post op. D) If this happened to me....I don't think I would be in any shape to post anything on any board. I have to admit, the post really freaked me out since I have a huge fear of anesthesia. But....IF patients do wake up, wouldn't there be physical signs of that. I would assume that they would become distressed from the pain, etc., and blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing would change.
-
Scribby.... Please QUIT NOW!!! You still have 6 days till your surgery, and those 6 days being smoke free will help you so much during anesthesia and recovery. I was told by my doctor that I had to be smoke free for 2 weeks. I was told that if he suspected that I had smoked, he would not do the surgery. It's for our own safety. It's not easy, but the patch helps so much. It takes away the NEED to smoke, although it doesn't break the HABIT of smoking. I'm an outdoor smoker and I keep finding myself at the front door ready to walk outside and smoke and then it hits me that I can't. LOL The instinct to smoke is what is driving me nuts, not the urge. I am in the process of quitting for my surgery August 16th. Today is day #2 for me. I am using the patch and right now it isn't unbearable. :clap2: I know with the patch I can make it through surgery, but I don't know if I can continue not smoking for good. I've committed myself to 2 weeks, so that I know I can do. I did get permission from my dr. to use the patch, so they should be aware that even though I'm not smoking, there WILL be nicotine in my blood. Apparently, they're concerned about our lungs during surgery, and not the effects of the nicotine. Kirsten
