I got my lapband when I was 18, my dad paid for it as a birthday gift because he was also overweight, he wanted me to have a better life. I decided to get the procedure done because at 17, I had ballooned to almost 300 pounds. I was tired of having PCOS, being borderline diabetic, and out of breath all the time. After I got my lapband, my dad had a major stroke, and my grandma and grandpa died, so I had to help take care of my dad, and deal with my grief, I got majorly depressed and started drinking and doing drugs. After my dads stroke, he made a full recovery and he lost over 100 pounds on a diet because he was told at his weight, he was at risk for another stroke. I am PROUD to say that this year, I have been clean and sober for over a year. So far, since I have been clean and sober, I have lost about 50 pounds with the lapband, and kept it off. I am definitely a lot more active now, but I can't seem to get my diet right. I like chocolate a lot, that always seems to be my downfall. I love doing yoga, riding my bike, and working out to workout DVD's. I do love my lapband, and I have explained the experience to several of my friends that needed one, and were asking about getting their own. That's about all, I am still trying to lose weight, but I have overcome a lot in the past 2 years.
