decided to do the Atkins diet

Ive bought two books - the Atkins New Diet Revolution and the Atkins Shopping Guide. Should be here next week. I'll read before I start. Long long ago I lost a lot of weight on Atkins and it made me feel great. No big excuse why I stopped and I wish I never had.

decided to do the Atkins diet

For thos of you actually on Atkins, can you give me some advice, cause I'm in the exact same boat as the OP. I had surgery a year ago and have lost 44 pounds. I expected to be farther along than this. I really want to start atkins, but I'm not sure what to eat in the induction phase. Everything I read is geared towards higher portions. What do you eat each day?

Women, were you told you'd become more fertile?

My husband's co-worker had lap band in December and is now about 5 months pregnant. Her dr never discussed it with her, and it never occurred to her. She was told before that she couldn't get pregnant. Well, surprise...

    Exercise

I hate it, too, and have to make myself do stuff. Plus, I run ALL the time, and am not a morning person, so I just don't bounce out of bed at 5am ready to hit the gym. I really like the Beach Body excersizes. They are 10 minutes each, and if I do one in the am and one in the evening (most evenings) I feel good. I run a LOT, too, have horses, dogs, a kid. And between giving riding lessons, taking my daughter to gymnastics, running back and forth to the farm, etc, I'm just not home a lot, and spending an hour in front of the TV just isn't something else I can fit into my schedule. I can do 10 minutes, tho...

    Doctor is treading water?

My doc just does the fills. I've never been xrayed or anything... He is a specialist, so I guess he knows what he's doing, right? I have been overfilled twice now... that makes me a little nervous...

    Reached your personal goal???

My first goal is 214, that is what I weighed before I got pregnant in 2005, and was what I weighed for 3 years. I am ONE pound away as of this morning, I about fell off of the scales when it said 215!!! My next goal is 199. I haven't been under 200 pounds in about 8 years. Man, that will feel GOOD!!! I'd really like to be 180 or even 170 by Christmas. I'd really like to get professional pictures taken with my daughter, I won't get them taken now with me being so heavy. And, I hate taking pictures now. I usually won't let anyone take pictures of me... I can't wait til I walk into my husbands family's house and their jaws drop!!! Its gonna be awesome!!!

    Doctor is treading water?

He had to remove about a third of that .5 cc. Its actually good tho, cause last night I ate diner and was only able to eat part of what I could a couple days before and I was full for a long time. Usually I'm hungry after about two hours of eating.

    Doctor is treading water?

Small fills are a GOOD thing. Take it from someone who was overfilled the first time with 3 ccs at once. I was MISERABLE, couldn't even swallow my spit. I had to sit in the hospital the next morning for over an hour waiting on my doc to get out of surgery so he could remove 1cc. Now, here I sit, at 3 ccs in my band and I think I'm overfilled again, or at least swollen to the point that I can't drink much of anything. I've taken two swallows of coffee and I can feel it sitting on my stomach, so I need to go in this morning for another unfill... Fun. Guess 2.5-2.75 is my number for now.

    Made my first goal!

Congratulations! I'm 4 pounds away from my first goal!

I may have made a bad decision

Most drs have you on liquids for the first 24 hours after a fill. I would go liquid for now, mushies for a day or two, then back to solids.

    My Dr. is Fill Happy

Ditto - everyone is different. My first fill I was given 3 ccs in a 10 cc band and had to have 1 cc removed the next morning because I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. My next fill is Thursday and I'm a little nervous. I can tell that I need more restriction, tho...

    missing fluid........

Sounds like the nurse didn't put in the extra 2 ccs...
  13. I am two and a half weeks post op and am already back to riding horses, and helped build a deck this past weekend. My dr said as long as I was feeling good and didn't get sore after that I should be just fine, and if this was normal pre-surgery activity, that I should be able to take it right back up and not have any issues. I tend to bounce back from stuff like this, and would have been devastated had they told me no activity for 6 weeks, I am a really active person. When I had my daughter (the natural way) I was back on a horse in 3 weeks. I say do what you feel comfortable with.

    Looking for May Bandsters

I was banded on the 14th as well. The soft foods I'm eating are egg salad (eggs in the blender with a bit of mayo and pickle juice and it gets it really fine), chicken salad (pureed), SF pudding, chili without beans (I crush the meat up really well and then make sure to chew really well), mashed potatoes, and I made broccoli casserole the other night, just boiled the broccoli for a bit longer so it was soft, and made sure I ate slowly and chewed well. A good snack is peanut butter on a spoon, just lick. SF popsicles and SF Fudgesicles, oh, and GUM... :smile2:

    Sharp pain in right side...

If it continues, go to the dr and have them check you out. If your lap band doc doesn't think its anything, go to your regular doc. Could be something as simple as gas, but then again it could be your appendix or gall bladder.
  16. I am 5'4 and am 31, my goal weight is 170. I wanted to stay realistic when I picked my goal weight. I would LOVE to get below that, but, if I hit 170 and then that's it, I would be happy as a clam! :tongue2: I have a large frame, so I'm never going to be petite. My DREAM weight is 140. When I was in the Air Force I weighted 140 and my bmi was 22.
  17. And I'm doing pretty good. Day one and two were pretty rough, and there was once or twice that I questioned WHY I did this. But, here it is, day 3 Post-Op and I'm up and about. The swelling is going down, I'm able to drink the liquids I need to get in, and I've been doing pretty well getting the Protein requirements in. I did eat a cup of sugar free pudding yesterday. It took me an hour of small bites, but I got it down without feeling nauseous. I have had part of an atkins Protein Bar today, but its the kind that falls apart in your mouth, so my doc said it was alright as long as it was complete mush before it went down. I asked before I tried it. I was SO worried that they would go in and my liver wouldn't be small enough. That my Vitamin levels would be off. SO afraid that something was going to happen to make them post-pone the surgery... Of course, nothing happened, and here I sit, so ready to start this new journey.
  18. I was banded on the 14th and came back to work today. Doing well. I have a desk job as well. I refuse to lift anything, and the two girls I work closest with know of my surgery, so they don't even ask. :w00t:

I got banded on the 14th!

The first two days were hard because of pain and difficulty getting enough Water down, belly swelling, and just general after-surgery stuff. Protein intake was next to nothing. Day 1 post op was the worst. I ended up sleeping most of the day, then rocked in the rocking chair all night. Rocking helps, the same as walking. I'm a really active person, and when I can't run like I normally do, I feel really tied down. lol I hopped on the scale this morning and I'm down 12 1/2 pounds from the 6th, which was my pre-surgery appointment.
  20. I was banded on the 14th. Its day 3 post op and I'm on soft foods, puddings, Protein shakes, etc. I did have part of a Protein Bar today but asked my dr first. It falls apart in your mouth, so he said as long as it was that soft, I was ok. Just to make sure I get my liquids in. I don't go back for a check up until June 2nd!! Day one and two were pretty rough. Course, I didn't have to worry about liquids on day one, they gave me two bags of IV fluids during surgery... I peed all day. lol I was up all night trying to sip on Water, and it really made me nauseous. No vomiting, tho. I thought I was going to vomit when I was waking up, but I think that was the anesthesia. They gave me a shot for nausea and it really helped. I have a post-op list from my dr. Day one is clear liquids, then the first two weeks its liquids like milk, tomato juice, cream Soups, Protein Shakes. Anything "through a straw". So I think I'm going to not eat any more of those Protein Bars until I'm able to do more solid foods. It didn't hurt my stomach, but maybe cause I drank while I ate it. The purpose was to get more protein in, and I didn't think I could drink another protein shake...

To Tell or Not to Tell?

I only told a few close friends, two co-workers. I don't want to listen to any negative comments, and the people I work with are a bunch of gossiping biddies. No thanks... I plan on telling them I am working with my dr on a diet, and that's not a lie.. lol
  22. Hi all, new to the forum. I found this the other day when I was looking for even more info. lol My surgery is scheduled for May 14th, two days from now. I'm excited but nervous. I read somewhere that if your liver hasn't shrunk enough they can't do the surgery. Is that true?? I'm really worried because my approval came through late last week, and they wanted me on the liquid diet for 10 days, but there just weren't enough days for a 10 day diet. Also, I have been reading about others diets, and everyone talks about Jello and broth, but my dr gave me a list of stuff I can have. I've been drinking milk, Water and Atkins shakes. Eating SF Jello, SF Low fat pudding, low fat cream Soups like tomato, broccoli n cheese (strained), mushroom (strained). I've also been on the pre-op Vitamin they recommended. My husband says I read WAY too much. But, I like to know the pros and cons of everything before I make a decision. lol Can someone relieve my fears??? Am I just being silly? :scared2:
  23. Also, when they did my EDG, he said I have some damage from Acid Reflux, a small hernia as well. Anyone else have that? he did say the Acid Reflux should go away once I have surgery. Thank god for that!!! I eat tums two or three times a day.
  24. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that reads too much! hahaha I've got a whole list of things I've got to do before surgery on Friday. I trim horse feet on the side, so I'm touching all of the horses up before Fri. fun... lol 3 tonight, 4 Wed and 2 Fri. That's everyone for now.

    Looking for May Bandsters

I'm scheduled to be banded May 14th, two days from now. My approval came through on the 30th and they wanted to do my surgery the 7th, but I didn't have enough time to get all of the pre-testing done. had my blood work, EDG and last appointment all in the same day, on the 6th. Started my pre-op diet on the 7th. I'm nervous but excited! I can't wait til I feel comfortable again.
