I am a 49 yrold woman with Type 2 Diabetes, over past 9 yrs of being dx my weight kept going up. I tried all types diets, (JC, wt watchers, nut/system, none worked, I would loose only 10-15 lbs and then gain all and more back. I finally decided to look into lap band. I went for consult and was quite surprise that I would only qualify since I had diabetes, being almost 250 lbs at my highest and 5'7" my health was the deciding factor. I attended many classes required by Dr. Laports office. Diet, Psyc, Support group, MD one on one and meeting with my preop coord. I was asked to take nutrient supplement one - two wks prior to surgery. I started on cutting my caloric intake, I drank protein drinks for breakfast and lunch and ate lean cuisine for lunch and dinner . I was amazed I lost over 10 lbs prior to surgery. Dr. Ali was pleasantly surprised. It's been 8 days and I am now down another 6 lbs. Almost a pound a day, first few days I didn't weigh, I was full of fluid and swelling, and of course lots of gas. This week has been a new start. I am glad to have another week off work. I am looking forward to taking part in the forums and questions.
