Next week will be a year out for me. I started at 251 and now am at 183, so 67 lbs. I have been stalled out for a couple of months now. I workout almost everynight on the Total Gym about an hour. Twice a week I do the stairs at our high school football stadium that takes about an hour of going up and down stairs. I have a 10cc band and have 4ccs in it. I got a fill a month ago of .50cc and I was tight the first couple of weeks but now one day I am so tight that I gurgle when I drink and throw up and the next couple of days I can eat just fine and then here comes the tightness again. But here is the question; How are you still losing at this point of a year out. I know two people who have stopped losing at a year out also. I still want to lose 30 lbs more. My Dr considers me a sucess and pretty much said I had lost 65% of my excess weight and that is what I was told 50% of excess weight at the time of surgery. He went on to say I might lose 1 -2 lbs a month, yes I said a month here on out. That just kills me. I want to finish but I am trying and not much is happening. I might be too tight but I have throw-up a lot since I first got the band and I always have had floro at each office visit to make sure everything in in the right place and working right. I takes only a small amount of fill for me to feel restriction. I never have slimed but I do throw up more than I know I should but like I said I have done that since the beginning. If I have ever gotten stuck it ALWAYS has to come up it NEVER goes down. So anyone got some suggestions to get things moving. I still eat the same food I ate while I was losing weight and still working out, get my protien and drink all the Water. Any advice? The 3 of us want to hear it. Thanks!! Cheri :cursing::confused::scared2:

Stalled at i year out help
123crod replied to 123crod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for the advice. I am going to run the bleachers at least 4 times a week and do the total gym the other 3 nights. I probably eat less than I should but I do try to stay away from all sliders 99.9% of the time. I am going to try changing everything up because even if the LapBand Dr. says 183lbs is good and I should be happy. My regular Dr would say that is not a healthy weight, but better . Any and all advice is welcome. I see a lot of people continue to lose after a year and that is what I want! Cheri -
What my Dr. trying to hide?
123crod replied to shelley1057's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say be glad you have a Dr. who does fills slower so my only gives me .5cc at a time and each one except the 1st one has kicked me the butt. I have a 10cc band and I am a year out tomorrow and only have 4ccs and I am fighting with eating now. Cheri -
Why not buy some? There a several carb friendly brands out there. I ate some when I was on Adkins. Cheri

If this works for you let me know I might try it for my tummy tuck!! Good Luck! Cheri

How do I break through a plateau?
123crod replied to caricap's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are tough, I pray I could find a way to get a band. Would have been nice if God just put it there. Would have saved me $13,000. Cheri:smile2: -
Finally got my first fill today!!!

I am so happy for you! You have been waiting a long time. Maybe that is why you had so much trouble at first if you already had some fill at the time of surgery? -

I prayed for the Lapband! -
I too suffer from clinical depression. That was one reasons I had for getting the band. It could help me lose weight where nothing has totally gotten rid of the depression. Death also plays a large part of my depression. I told my husband I could not deal with both issues and he agreed. But you know in all our lives there are times when we just have to dig deep inside ourselves and find that inner strength that we like to believe is not there and use it daily to dig ourselve out of this pit. Yes you might not can fix your depression but if you are not in counseling please find one because it helps so much to get all of it out. Sometimes just speaking what you feel helps so much because it is no longer just in you . . . it is a spoken thought and you have shared it so it is not yours alone anymore. I think you should go visit your Doctor and see where you stand as far as fills and get started again. If you be honest with yourself the weight is only adding to you depression, I would think it did with me. I wish you so much luck and please have hope that you will get through all of this because you will. Think about what your Grandmother who you loved and loved you would want for you. She would not want you to be so unhappy. She would want you to enjoy living your life. I know it is tough but you sound like you have been strong in the past and I believe you can be again. You just have to take baby steps. Please keep us all posted and know you are not alone in the depression or the weightloss challenge. Cheri

at a stand still need advise

My advice to you is to change something up. Eat different for a week change to a different type of exercise for a week. That usually works! -
Not losing weight at all!
123crod replied to marcybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My suggestion is to get some counceling to help you through your journey with the band. Most of the time there are issues that are causing you to overeat besides hunger. My counseling has helped me a lot and everyone could benefit with some type of counseling. Cheri -
Low Carb or Low Fat...which is better?
123crod replied to amey_idaho's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Doctor say high Protein but lean protien and low carbs but NOT no carbs. I stay around 50 carbs or less a day if I can. Cheri -

wisdom you wish you knew prior to surgery

I want to add this. When your Doctor tells you that you are only expected to lose 50% of your extra weight that is what he/she means. Some people go on to lose to whatever their goal is. But the least you can expect is 50% of extra weight. I say be as disiplined as you can the first 6-8 months as that is the largest window for weightloss with the band. After that it does slow a lot. I am very happy with my band and have had a great experience lost 65 lbs so far and hope to lose more but my Dr said today that I had already exceeded the 50% and it will be slow from here on, maybe 1-2 lbs a month. Kinda burst my bubble but I am determined to lose no matter what. He also informed me that excess protien turns to fat so eat what you are suppose to but don't go overboard. He also said in his opinion if you eat nuts of any kind you might as well paste them on you butt or arms as they are not for people with any type of weightloss surgery. So if you eat nuts drop them and see if it helps with your weightloss My doctor is a very well respected Dr and ranks very highly among Weightloss surgeons. My friend and I attended a support group meeting with him tonight and we were the only ones to show up tonight so we had him all to ourselves and asked all kind of questions for 1½ hours and he was very honest in answering them all. I learned a lot Poor man we were firing questons at him as fast as we could ! One more thing he believes true and I agree is not to drink high calorie, high fat Protein shakes eat your protein. He told me that before sugery and later I added them to my diet and my weightloss did slow. He said do not drink any high calorie beverage at all they are like milk shakes with protein. Eat solid protien which could inclued protien bars but watch the fat content and amount of calories. Take whatever out of this that might help you and forget about the rest. Just thought I would pass on some words of advice from a highly respected lapband Doctor I do not mean to sound too down as I know people met and exceed their goal. I would like to lose 30 or 40 lbs before I start to maintain, but if I did not lose any more my surgeon would not consider me a failure as I have exceed the 50% that he told me about before surgery. I am stalled out too so is a friend of mine. What do you think we can do to get things moving again for the 3 of us. Cheri

Harris/Galveston County people looking for Support
123crod replied to 123crod's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Will be happy to let you know when they are. We always have room for people and support is the best thing for everyone. I am going to private message you my phone number if you ever want to talk. I work at home but Tuesdays and Thursdays are not good phone talking days as I watch my two grandbabies and work too on those 2 days. We also go to a meeting in Alvin on the 3rd Saturday of the month at Casa Ole on Highway 6 at 1:30 pm. It is for all types of weightloss surgery, but there are about 5 Lapbanders and everyone is so nice. Also one in pasadena on the 14th of this month same thing all types of surgery but they have a leader and usually a topic discussion and then regular talking it is at 7:00 - 9:00 pm but you can leave early if you need to it is in a resturant too they say be there at 6:30 to eat or 7:00 for meeting. We never eat just drink Water or coffee. We could meet you in Clear Lake and ride together or you can follow us whatever makes you feel safe. Then we have one towards the end of the month in Friendswood at one the the ladies houses, I will find out for sure which day and let you know. We needed support so we just made out own little group all lapbanders and some of the best friends I have ever made. We are in all stages of lapbanding from 1 month to 15 months and all different Doctors. Who was your DR? Cheri -
A good cry is good for you. I was mourning my diet coke in those early days. I am STILL mourning my diet coke 10 months later. You are going through a huge change in your life it is normal to be emotional!! Cheri

I am looking to talk to people who have ominpaque in their band instead of saline. I am having some weird side effects and need to talk to others? From what I have heard a lot of Dr Spivak's people do. I am one of his patents too. Cheri
-
Thanks Lisa!!! I have known since the beginning that I had omnipaque in my band as my Dr. asked me if I was not allergic to shellfish he would rather use that than saline, because it is thicker and is less likely to have any leakage. Well after I had my 2nd fill about 8 weeks out. I started to feel really tired and started falling alseep at work and would sleep hours at a time in the daytime where I never had before. My regular Dr. and I looked at all of my meds I take and we changed dosages and cut some in half. I am also on Lexapro for depression but have been on if for about 3 years. I myself after losing 65 lbs decided that I was on too high of a dosage more than my brain could take so I slowly weaned myself down to half a dosage of that and it is not the problem. I eat all my Protein almost everday and drink all my Water, take Vitamins and work out one hour to one and a half hours a night on a total gym or walk. So I feel that I am doing what I am suppose to do as far as the band is concerned and my health, but I am so tired. I am 10 months out right now down 66 lbs and people in my support group are trying to help me figure out what is wrong with me. My regular Doctor thinks that my deppression is worse than I am willing to admit and that is why I am so tired all the time. My brother just died in December of this year of an overdose, he too suffered from depression and it scares me too that what if I just lose it too. I have a great husband, a sweet loving son wonderful daughter-in-law and two of the most beautiful grandbabies so I have nothing to be depressed about really but it seems to be a chemical thing. Anyway the last time (2 weeks ago) I went for a fill the Dr. pulled out all to check if all fuild was there and them gave me .05 ccs and as soon as he pushed it in I felt so tired, just the moment it went in. We did the floro as he always did and everything was okay so I left. I have never discussed my tiredness with him as I did not think it was band related. Well my friends who also have bands and have saline were helping me reserch omnipaque and one of the side effect is extreme tiredness, so they think it is the omnipaque causing this. I call my Dr.'s office on Friday and discussed this with one of the staff and she also has omnipaque in her band and said they have never had complaints like this before. I am going to call on Monday tomorrow and talk to him his self and see what he tells me. I do not know how I would know if I am allergic to shellfish as I eat no seafood. But my support group wants me to have omnipaque taken out and saline put in which my Dr. office said is to big deal they would do it no problem. But I am afraid to mess with what is working for me so far. But need to find out what is wrong with me. In the last 6 months I have had to complete blood workups and nothing seems to be the problem. I do take meds for my thyriod and it is in the right spot. I am 49 and will soon be 50 so that plays part of it too. My Dr gave me a B-12 shot and it did not even phase me. So anyway that is why I am looking for people who have omnipaque in their band to see their experiences. The omnipaque is a whole lot thicker that is why my Dr. gives me very small fills. The omnipaque is not flexable and is less forgiving when you get stuck. I have 4 ccs in a 10cc band. See I never slime, only once when I had my first fill. If I get stuck it must come up it will not go through except one time and it was a 10 hour wait. Where my friend never throws up and one of them has lost 103 lbs but she slimes ALL the time. Sorry that I wrote all this when you were so nice to reply and let me know people are out there. I will post again after I talk to my Dr. tomorrow. So others will know in case they have this same problem. Sorry so long!! Cheri
