I have been married 30 years and told my husband right before surgery. I made him swear he would never tell anyone. After surgery when I knew I was going to lose at least some weight I told my son when he asked. My daughter-in-law said do not ask your mother that, but I told him but they were told to keep it to themselves. If I am at a support group meeting I have no problem telling anyone starting and current weight because we are all in the same boat. But my husband is still the same weight (150) as when we got married 30 years ago. But now everytime I lose a pound I announce it to him. I went from 251 to currently 173 and still trying to lose. Need some advice, inspiration.. anything!
123crod replied to catincanada's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been banded about 14 months. I have lost from 251 to 173. When I had lost 65 lbs my Surgeon said to take it easy from here on out. I told him I still wanted and needed to lose weight. He said I was a sucess, I had loss more than 50% of my excess weight and that is really all the surgery is expected to do. I have continued to lose weight slowly and would like to get to about 150. If I was in your position I would choose the gastric bypass but that is just my opinion. The reason is you should be able to lose more weight. But it does come with more risks. I have been exposed to a lot of people who had the bypass at support group during the last year and they all seem to do really good, if they take all their supplements and eat right. I would had done the bypass if I had the money, but I was self-pay and it was just too much. I love my band and have had really no problems at all. I have met people who have lost 100 lbs and one who lost 240 lbs with the band. I have also met someone who had the band and after 1 year she still was not losing even though she was following the rules so she had the bypass done and is so slim now and healthy but she is a nurse and does follow all the rules. Do your research on all WLS and talk to people who have had them and Drs too. Go to some support group meetings. At the support group meetings you find out alot of information from people who had the different surgeries and are living that life style. Good luck to you and if you are a praying person pray and pray for direction on which path to take. Cheri -
Teenager on the rode to surgery
123crod replied to Duhitsmecca's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep looking for a Doctor who will do teenagers. There are alot of them. I wished I did it at your age. I think as long as you are mature enough to know what changes you are making to your body and that your eating will forever be different than before. Everyone is different but I think some counseling is good as you go through the change in the beginning. If you are like me you will be giving up your best friend (food)and getting a skinng body instead. It is so worth it if you want to work at it. Good luck to you I hope you find a Dr. to help you. I personally would not go out of the country to do it at your age. You need a Dr close to you. You are still growing and should have a good Dr. work with you. Cheri -

Dr. Samuel Wasser - Not very lap-band friendly
123crod replied to Heimlichwaiting's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
How much do you have to lose? I weighted 251 on the day of surgery and now 14 months later I am at 75 lbs lost. I might had done gastric bypass if I had the money, but I think the sleeve has pretty much the same loss as the band. Go to a different Doctor and get what you want. My doctor told me I would lose all my weight with gastric bypass and about 50% excess weight with band so I am passed that and still going so I think you should check out a nice Doctor. I used Dr Spivak in Houston and he has been great. Cheri -
How soon after a fill do you feel the change?
123crod replied to malinda1229's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had 5 fills but still only 4cc in 10cc band. Each and every fill has had a delayed reaction some hours some days, once about a week. Last one of just .5cc was a kick in the butt and still going strong months later. I may never need a fill again. I have lost 75 lbs so far would like 20 more if possible. Cheri Cheri -

How well does your husbands adjust to you weight loss?
123crod replied to talkalot1981's topic in The Gals' Room
Well I am 49 and been married 30 years. I have not noticed too much change since losing 75 lbs to date. But then my husband married me fat and over the years have been so many different sizes. I do not think it will effect our marriage in any way. I did tell him please do not tell me I am getting smaller or skinny during sex, that is not when you want to think about it. Cheri -
I like the Greek, but when I am watching carbs really close I eat the Carbmaster it is a Kroger's brand 4 for $1.00 so good!! Cheri

July bandsters...need some help...
123crod replied to bobbiezhere's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on 9/13/09 I am down 73 lbs, but I too hit a couple of months of nothing lost. I had to switch to pretty low carb, NOT no carb but low carb and have been able to lose another 7 lbs. Try the lower carb and see if it helps. Cheri -
Have you tried these foods?? Part I
123crod replied to losethemess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Kroger Carbmaster Yogurt is so yummy and 10 for $4.00. They have many flavors and they all are great. I eat it everyday. Took the plan and added ½ package ranch dip mix and served it at a party and nobody Knew the difference Cheri -
It is normal to feel anxiety, before and after. I woke up at home the next day and had to look at my scars to believe it really did happen. Best thing I have ever done for myself. Good luck Cheri

Reading online about LapBand failured
123crod replied to SarahMarie123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you read everything you will get some good and some bad reviews. I know the LapBand really does not work for some people. But for most it does. You have to be willing give up a few things and be willing to follow the rules. Sometimes I do throw up but most of the time it is because I did not chew good and maybe the first or second bite did not go down and everything piled up on top of it. If I get stuck 65% of the time it is coming up. Very few times does it go down. But I do not throw up every day or everyweek, but most times you can tell when you throw up stuff was not chewed good. I am a year and 2 months out and down about 73 lbs. I love my band and would do it again in a minute. Cheri -
Gastric Sleeve vs. Banding
123crod replied to BeautyisherGODgivenname's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you have to consider to the LapBand only promises you that you could lose 50% of your excess weight, they do not tell you that amount might not be your goal weight. I love my Band and have been banded a year and a couple of months, started out at 251 lbs and am down to 177 lbs, My surgeon says that is like 65% of my excess weight and I might not lose anymore and he considers me a success at the surgery and if I asked to do a revision like to the sleeve he would not do it because I was successful at the surgery I chose. I know many people who have made it to goal and 177 lbs is not my goal and I am still losing just slower and I intend to make it to goal. I met a 65 year old women at a support group last weekend and she had lost 240 lbs in four years on the band and she looked really good. So just do your research. The LapBand was the right choice for me. Also I have seen people who have gained back on the LapBand and the Sleeve and Gastric Bypass, it all depends on how much you are willing to put in to it, Cheri -
I was at a Support Group Meeting this past weekend, and there was a new person there and she had been banded 6 years. We eat band friendly treats sometime or taste new recipes to see if the group likes them. Well I got stuck on a meatball made with meat and added protien powder. Kathy the new lady heard me talking about I was gurgling because I was stuck. She told me to use my left arm like a chicken moves it's wing, you know bend your LEFT arm put your hand under your armpit and move your arm up and down like a chicken or duck does with it's wings about 10 times. And it worked I thought she was crazy but she says she does it all the time. At restuarants she sits where when she eats her LEFT arm is resting on her husband's shoulder or on the back of the booth and she never has problems eating. I know it sound crazy but it works and has kept me for having to throw up twice. Try it!! Cheri

Weepy today - please pray for me!
123crod replied to wanna.b.healthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
want.to.be.healthy, I will be praying for you. Six weeks seems like a long time but it will past fast. Look what you have waiting for you at the end of 6 weeks. Everytime I get off track from doing low carbs it takes me a couple of days to get it started again. It is like the minute I say I am starting low carb again I feel “deprived” , It is not like someone is coming in and locking up all the food but it feels like it. But once I have the willpower to make it 3 days I feels so much better. We let food control us. You sound like a very strong lady and I have faith in you that you can do what you you need to do to make yourself ready for surgery. Please know at times it is a struggle for all of us. But as Christians we have the added benefit of never being alone, even in our thoughts. God knows our struggles and promised we would not have to go through them alone. He cares about all our struggles even small things like food. Lean upon Him at this time make it a time to get closer to Him. I could not have done my year without calling out to Him. I had lost my best friend food and we grieved together and then moved on. I will be praying for you! Cheri -
I will miss you Patty and I will pray for you!

I had Floro everytime I had a fill. Dr Spivak has one in his office. He checked your band placement and port and watch the barium go down each time

Flying out to Mexico for Surgery 8/14/10 and......
123crod replied to StillNoRegrets83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not think you need to worry about the Doctors or the hospital. But my Husband is from Mexico and it has changed so much in the last few years. You just need to be careful of your surrounding and do not be to trusting of people you do not know. Good luck girls! Cheri -
Msmackielee: God loves you whether you love Him or not? Your choice to choose Him or not. You don't believe so? Nobody is forcing you. But you are one of the rudest posters I have seen on the boards in over a year. Don't want to read this stuff don't make a thread about stuff you do not believe in. Call us all whatever you want but you can't change a Christian's mind once the have felt the love of God. Good luck!
