I had my surgery on June 15, 2010. I posted soon after that it wasn't working. I seem to up set a few on here. Their replies pretty much turned me off of this site, so I have not posted. Well guess what I still hate this thing. It doesn't work for me. I will say it again...really think about this before you do this. it seem to work for some, but please understand it doesn't work for everyone. I see the Doctor Tuesday and I'm going to tell him do something or take it out. I'm done with it.

For those of you who have gotten discouraged
swirl replied to mirramjr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's been over a year and I still say this doesn't work for everyone. For the life of me I don't see why it works for some and not others. I wish I had never had it done. Now I am stuck with this thing in me that has never worked and never will. I was hoping with time I could say...I lost weight, but that has not happened. -
Spartan, I so wish I could of read your words before I had this surgery. You said just want I need to hear. I really would like to read the posts of the member you were talking about that ended up getting by pass surgery. If you don't mind would you please give me their name. Again thank you!!

Hello remember me??? I'm swirl I started this thread. There have been so many replies I have got lost in them. Someone said...The band is what you make of it BULLCRAP!!! I just left my Doctors office and I had a nice long talk with him about all of this. He said they are finding out that the band is working for less and less people. He said it like only 70% of people that it works on. So when someone like me says "this thing just isn't getting it for me"...So Misses know it all, it may very well not be my fault. He said. I have beed filled has much has one can be filled and no restriction, but once and I throw up. He said that they are not getting that good of results with the band, as time goes by. So in the mean time I got another fill and I go back in 6 weeks. We will see where I am at then.

It's nice to see that some here feel the way I do or at least try to understand were I am coming from. For the ones like me, I do pray that things will turn around and we all end up losing the weight and will be healthy one day. ] For the ones that lost their patience with people like me that don't love the band, then move on past the posts that don't feel the way you do. Keep your comments to yourself, you are not doing a dang thing to make things better. I too have lost patience with the ones that have lost 50lbs in two months and can't for the life of them understand why everyone else hasn't done the same.

Just had surgery and starting to regret already
swirl replied to sunshine1972's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through it all. & 7 months later I still regret getting it done. I pray things change for you. -
It's not just eating baked chicken, I was just using that as an example. The point I am trying to make is I have done this samething over and over to lose weight. It takes a lot of will power to do that. For whatever reason after a while I would get bored with this "eating healthy" thing and go back to the food that I enjoy eating. For some reason I didn't think it would be like this with the lap band. I like eating hamburgers, French Fries, cheese cake, ect. If I had know that I would have to chose the baked whatever instead of a cheeseburger for this thing to work then I would not had gotten this thing I hate. The only time I have felt any restriction I would feel all kinds of pain and throw up. If I have to live worrying about food getting stuck and throwing up, this is not worth it. And to have to take tiny bites of bake whatever on top of it. The Doctor went with the band because of the meds I am on,but I can't help but feel I would of lost a hell of a lot more weight by now. And maybe been off half these meds in anyway. You wait months it get approved, you wait months to find this so called sweet spot, months have gone by and not a damn pound lost. For all the ones on here that think this is the best thing that ever happed to them (and I am happy for those) there are people here thsat have not had this surgery and really need to hear that it doesn't work for everyone. All the money, all the pain, and for what??? Just to have to chose cheeseburger or baked chicken. Hell I did that before surgery. But that time I did loss 60 lbs. Didn't keep it off. But its still more then I can say a this Lap band.l

That right here is my point. In the past for whatever reason I would eat like you do now and loss weight. But over time I would go back to my old habits and the weight came right back. So it was my understanding that with the lapband you still could eat pretty much what you did before, but within reason. You could eat a hambuger, but just eat half. By cutting half of what you eat means less calories, so you will loss weight. It should also help you eat less because the food stayed in the pouch longer, If I have to eat baked fish and baked chicken, what is the reason for the Lap Band??? Please do take this as a knock to you or anyone else here.but I am really trying to understand if you eat like you do now of course you will loss weight. I know I have done it more times then I care to remember. I don't have it in me any more to eat like that. If I did then I would of just did it and not have gone through the pain of getting the Lap Band put in. I would be better off just taking diet pills.
-
Please explain to me what has change for you food wise. What do you eat now that is different then before?
-
I have had a few fills and never got any restriction till the last one. I would get food stuck and start throwing up. Doctor took some of the fill out. I go back this Tuesday. I am able to eat just like I did before the surgery. If I have to eat baked chicken and green beans the rest of my life to loss weight, then why did I need surgery? If I could do that I would of done that on my own. I really don't understand this band thing. Even it they get where I have restriction and don't throwing everything up, I don't want to eat baked chicken the rest of my life. I really wished i had just had by pass and been done with this.

you have this surgery. I was banned on June 15 and if I knew then what I know now I would of thought more about it. This really is not the answer to weight loss as they lead you to believe that it is. Find out everything you can before you make this your choice. I wish I had done my home work.

WOW!!! There are a wide range of replies to my tread. I see some have had it a lot worse then I and others way easier. And thank you all for replying. I just think someone thinking about getting this done should have all the info they can have the GOOD,BAD and the UGLY. Not everything is great for everyone and I am sorry some got their nose's out of place because I said so. All we can do is try and do the best we can and hope it all works out in the end.
-
Thank you! Maybe I am not so different then a few others on here.

Do you have a date yet? I know you will do just fine and will be happy when your surgery is done. I am happy to hear that you are making an informed decision, not like me. I'm not saying that I am not happy that I had my surgery. I just wished I know more about what to expect and not have unrealistic expectation.
-
Ok maybe the words suck and fool were not used, but just as you said my post came across has very negative so were some of the replies. As I sat here late lastnight looking at my feet swelling thinking...I am I have CHF again??? Doesn't feel very good. When you try and do what the Doctors tell you and it just feels like nothing is ever going to change, it's hard to write fluffy post. There are times that I feel postive, but there are and will still be times I don't feel so positive. I was not trying to stop any one from have surgery. If some one would base that decision on my one post then they really need to think about it. If reading all the posts about getting stuck, slimimg (whatever its called)on here does't stop you, I don't think mypost would either. But that is just some of the not so pleasent things that comes along with this kind of surgery....just like feeling down and doubting if you did the right thing.I am happy beyond words that in just 6 weeks I have lost 25lbs, but I still get down about other health problems and forget that lapband will not fix these over night or if at all.

What a great reply. Sorry to hear that someone else went through what I am going through. I too could not take the pain meds. I had conjestive heart failure in March and the Doctor said it enlarged my liver and he really had to beat it up to get the band in. I was in the hospital for two days and after that felt all the pain. I have so far lost 25lbs and have had one fill, but not much there yet. Still want to eat more then I should, but I don't eat anywhere like I use to.
-
That is fantastic!!!!! I hope I will one day be able to say the samething. I have some other health issues that have made this harder on me then most, even my Doctor said that. Did you pretty much know what to expect or did you learn what to do and not do as you went along? Again your weight loss is great!!!

To the ones that replied in a nice way, thank you for your concern. But to the others that I some how touched a nerve(so it seems). I was not trying to turn anyone off from making the choice to have LAP-BAND® surgry, just saying don't make the same mistake I made by not knowing all the facts. Yes, I went into this not having all the information that I should have. I have no one to blame but myself for that. I am sure that I am not the only person that has done this, none will I be the last. I'm sorry that I can not claim this great love for MY LAP-BAND® as some here do, but I hope someday I will be singing that song. But to try and say that my life must suck and what a damn fool I was for having surgery is a little over board. You don't know the health problems I had before the surgery and still have. Everyone will have a different experience and they will not all be so positive and in 8 months I pray that this will turn into something wonderful. And when someone new comes on here and has just had the surgery and is going though what I am now, I pry that my replies to that person are not hateful and mean-spirited as I feel some here were. Again to the ones that showed concern I really do thank you for that.

swirl replied to echazottes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got my band,so dont know what to tell you. But reading this makes me not ever want to eat solid food. If you just eat a small bite of chicken and this happens. Going to rest of my life wondering if this will be the one bite that will make me go through this. -

swirl replied to Drasan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did you do when you first had surgey? I'm only one week out and sick of just liquids. -
I got banned on June 15th and I really wonder if I did the right thing. I'm sick of hurting, not eating, and wonder if this is going to be worth it in the long run. I would of thought that I would of at least lost more the the loney 1lb that I have lost by now. It's been 5 days and it's got old real fast. Just wanted to vent, Lori :smile2:

swirl replied to ashbuch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel. I to stopped smoking, but lap band or not I'm glad I did stop. After reading some of the posts today I wonder how some of us could of been so unprepaired for the surgery. I don't think this part was explained to me has it should of been. I am also at fauilt for not reading up more on it. All I can do is hope its worth it like others have said. -
