    COLD WEATHER

My band changes with hot and cold temps. I am in Wisconsin. Last summer when we were near 100 degrees I had to get some taken out. No issues until yesterday when were in single digits. I need to go today to have some taken out, can't even keep water down! However, I am sick with a "cold" (flu? virus? - lots of mucus and drainage) so that could also be playing a role???

    Mucus Runs My Band

Funny I ran across your post. I haven't had a fill in about 8 months but just called this morning to go in this afternoon to let some Fluid out. I have a cold, (day 4) with LOTS of drainage. Since yesterday, I can't eat or drink anything - it comes back up. That being said, I am not sure if it's the cold (mucus), the cold outside (it's single digits here in Wisconsin yesterday and today) or something else. I found last summer, I had the same issue when we had record breaking heat. That being said, I also had a glass of Metamucil (fiber) yesterday and soon after that, I started to have problems. I never took that before yesterday so it's something new for me. Anyone else have issues with extreme temps, Metabucil or mucus?
  3. I am 37 years old and will be banded this summer. I am looking for others "in the area" who would be interested in getting together in person once a month or so to chat about our experiences and offer support. I know I can't be the only one scared to death about this procedure and how my life is going to change. I can only imagine what I will be feeling like post surgery when dealing with this (my husband and children, not having a weight problem can't relate). I am in West Bend but consider the whole Metro Milwaukee area to be "in the area". I don't think twice about driving an hour in any direction. Having people in various stages of weight loss with the help of the band would be ideal. I am having my band placed through Froedtert. So far I love their program but feel their support group lacks something. They meet monthly and the room is full of only those who have had the RNY surgery. I'd love to chat with others who have not yet had the surgery, have recently had surgery and those who have had it some time ago - and those who have been banded. Is anyone interested??
  4. Was banded just 3 days ago. Mashed Potatoes ARE on my pureed diet plan from the dr. but soon after eating them I got a pain in the middle of my chest that has been there now for about 36 hours. I can't eat what I'm supposed to without extreme fullness (feels like Thanksgiving dinner after 2 bites), and even water makes the pain worse. Not intolerable but bothersome. Feels like I have a lump in my throat and sort of moves up and down... I've tried to help what ever it is come up but it doesn't. Burping doesn't help other than move the bump further up but then it goes down... I'm thinking my potatoes were too thick and now they are like cement, stuck in my new stomach. Will call the Dr. tomorrow but wondering if anyone has a trick to get it to come out in the meantime. Wondering if maybe a tums would work? Any rules on using antacids? Upside is the scale is moving down - 7 pounds so far! So far I LOVE my band! I miss tasting my favorite foods but I'm so full all of the time, I good without them! Went to Wisconsin Dells today and WATCHED my family eat hot fudge sundaes and I was OK with that! I LOVE not being a slave to food already!
  5. Well, I surfed the forum and saw a some comments about pineapple juice and papaya enzyems so my husband and I took a midnight drive to Walmart. Without exaggeration, 1 sip of the pineapple juice brought relief! OMG, it was so great to have another flavor to try so I drank the whole can (very small can) and it completely cured my problem! I'm buying stock in Dole Pineapple juice! I also bought the papaya enzymes and took a dose of those, 4 chewable tabs. Yumm.. another flavor. This morning I'm good as new! LOVE my band! I'm putting the bottle of enzymes in my purse and a can of juice in my truck for those times I may run into trouble down the road.
  6. I'm not a single Mom but was home with my 9 month old son alone the day I got home from the hospital, day 2 was shopping at Walmart and on day 3 we went to Wisconsin Dells walking and shopping with family all day. Exercise and activity will only make you stronger. Get lots of sleep at night. Day 3 sure my tummy is sore where my incisions are but other than that, I'm good to go! TONS of energy.

    Surgery Tomorrow 7/28/2

Tab, I'm having surgery tomorrow too! I have sought some friends online who have had the surgery and had private conversations with them. You WILL be able to eat pizza again. Like someone else mentioned maybe just the topping but from what I hear, the desire to eat an entire pizza like we have now will be GONE! I am so excited, today is my last day letting food control my life. Starting tomorrow, I am eating to live and not living to eat. Join me! Good luck!

    Wisconsin: Where are you??

GracesMom... Wow, today was your big day. Hopefully you'll be up and about writing about your surgery. I SO want to know how it went! Yes, Dr. Wallace is my surgeon.

    sorry to ask... but...

I don't have a surgery date yet but it will happen sometime this summer. I SO have the same questions that you do. Thanks for asking! Please post after surgery what you're experiencing! Now I want to see what sort of scars are left by the surgery...

    Wisconsin: Where are you??

Wow.. Wisconsin just isn't well represented on this site. I am getting banded this summer sometime and am going through the Froedtert program. So far I am very happy with it. I was hoping to be able to find some local buddies on this site to meet up with. I am so curious to know what it's truly going to be like after surgery. I want to go out for lunch with someone who's had the surgery to see how eating will change. What things are off limits and what a true lunch looks like in size. I'm also afraid of the skin issue once my goal has been met. I'm looking to lose 100# on my 5'7" frame and am 37 years old.
