    I just want to cry

When talking to my nut about stalls she made a point that really hit home and made a lot of sense. For every pound of fat you lose your body also has to retract the blood vessels that were carrying nutrients. It takes time for your body to adjust and reroute those pathways. Give yourself and your body a break. It's working very hard right now. As long as you are following your plan, this plateau will pass. Good luck!
  2. I'm 3 months post op and still can't handle scrambled eggs. Boiled or poached is fine though. Its disappointing, but just give your body some time and try again in a few weeks.
  3. My Nut gave me the OK for potatoes, so a couple of times I've eaten about 1/3 of a potato mashed with some cottage cheese. However, I will say that the day after I enjoy this treat, I seem to be hungrier than usual. Not sure if its all psychological or what but I think I will stay away from the 'taters for a while

    anyone have Multiple Sclerosis?

Hi Lisa, I too have MS, diagnosed in 2001. My surgeon didn't flat out "refuse" to do RNY, but wasn't real encouraging of it because of the malabsorptive aspects. He left the final decision up to me though, so I researched and then talked to my neurologist about the options. I went with the VSG (Surgery was 4 weeks ago tomorrow) and so far I am very happy. Which medicine are you taking? I had just switched to Tecfedera about a month before surgery. Rather than deal with the side-effects while trying to recover, we stopped the meds until I'm recovered enough to be on regular foods. Then I will go back to the titration pack and restart the meds. Fingers crossed that I'll be better able to handle it by then! Welcome to the forum!

    June sleevers, check-in!

Hi guys, I'm 4 weeks out now and feeling really, really good! I'm still adjusting to the whole "eyes bigger than my stomach" thing and always end up bringing too much food with me for lunch. Every evening, unpacking my lunch is eerily similar to when I was packing it up that morning HW - 277 Surgery - June 3 SW - 246.5 CW - 223.5

    Drain or no drain?

My surgeon said it gave him insight into how well I was healing. By day 6 or so the liquid was turning a yellowish pink (I know, TMI!) and he said that was a really good sign that all was well with my stomach closure.

    Drain or no drain?

I had a drain for 8 days. It was a little weird having this tube coming out of my belly but not a big deal. Just had to empty it a few times a day and track the amount and the color of the liquid. But like others have said it didn't hurt coming out, just felt strange.

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

Hey June Sleevers, I'm just checking in post surgery. My procedure was on the 3rd, no complications although the doc did discover a hiatal hernia that we didn't know about. He fixed that during surgery. The first couple of days weren't too bad, the post op pain and gas were similar to what I had with my hysterectomy a few years ago so I knew how best to deal with it: walk, walk, walk, then walk some more. The worst part was the bulb drain that I had attached to my belly for 8 days. It left that incision swollen and sore and was really ready to come out. Drain removal was a turning point and allowed me to feel SOOO much better! Now I am 11 days out and feeling great! Started pureed foods (with Dr permission) on day 9 and never knew cottage cheese could taste so good. I hope all the other Junies are feeling good, either on the road to recovery or ready to take the plunge! Cheers!
  9. Hi guys, I'm sort of in your area, just farther East (Strasburg). I'm not with Kaiser but since I work for Exempla (and worked at St Joe's for 4 years) my surgery was done by Dr Chae at St Joes. I've been thinking of going to the support meetings held at the hospital every month but haven't made it there yet. He also has a group that meets down at SkyRidge. If anyone is interested in dates and times, let me know. I have a flyer with both schedules for the whole year. It's good to meet some other sleevers in the area!
  10. I weaned myself off coffee ahead of time by following my Nut's advice. Whatever your normal amount of coffee is, cut it in half and limit yourself to that for 1-2 weeks. Then cut it in half again... and again. It took me about 6 weeks to get away from caffeine completely, but no headaches or feeling bad!! Good luck!

    June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Hi June sleevers. My surgery was on Tuesday and I came home Wednesday. No real pain to speak of and haven't taken pain meds since yesterday. Not walking any marathons but making my way to healing. Hope everyone who has gone in so far is doing well!

Too funny, I said something similar, "tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life!" Let's do this!

    CO - Denver

I'd like to get in on this thread, just to see where the meetings end up being held. My surgery will be on Tuesday with Dr Chae at St Joe's. I'm a little uncertain about the support group meetings though. I work in Denver but live pretty far east so attending a meeting after work means its very, VERY late by the time I get home. But then I also realize its only one day a month and its doing something for me. Such a struggle!!! Anyway, once things get finalized I would love to see if I can make the dates and times work!

    First REAL NSV....

your excitement and joy brought tears to my eyes! Good for you! Savor this moment and use it for strength the next time a stall drags you down.

To tell or not to tell?

I've been pretty open, even at work but wonder if I'm going to be sorry. Is there a stigma around people who have this surgery? Is it going to impact my career options? Not sure...

    So, what's your hurry?

Thanks for this. I've read through many posts and thought the same thing. This process is a journey. It didn't start with that first appointment with the doc or the day of surgery. It started with poor food choices and lack of exercise that made us start gaining weight in the first place. And in some cases that was a lifetime ago. We didn't become obese overnight. Thank God we have a tool that will help us lose the weight faster than it took to gain it!
  20. Had a long talk with my Nut on this one. She said if I have a sweet tooth, then the sleeve was NOT the surgery for me. The bypass would be the better choice because of dumping syndrome--if I gave in to the cravings and ate something sweet or fatty it would most likely cause a response I would NEVER forget and take care of the cravings immediately. The sleeve doesn't have the same effect and requires you to be able to overpower those cravings and move past it. Unfortunately that information isn't real helpful since you've already gone through surgery When the cravings kick in, try taking a walk or going for a bike ride. Some other activity that gets you FAR AWAY from the food. Good luck!

    syntrax nectar samples!

Thanks for posting this info! I called in an order this afternoon. It should arrive next week right when I'm post surgery.

PLEASE! Dear God, Can I get some coffee?

I love my coffee and giving it up pre-surgery has been the toughest thing about this whole process. My Nut said no caffeine between now and post surgery until I'm able to drink 64 oz of Water a day on a regular basis. She and the surgeon have lots of concerns about dehydration. *sigh*
  25. I will be at St Joe's for the surgery. It sounds like Dr Chae is one of the few doc's who doesn't require a pre-op diet, just Clear liquids the day before. I'm wondering how to manage that while working on Monday, but figure it will all work out . As for post op, I've bought a supply of Isopure (various flavors) and last weekend we were able to score two cases of EAS AdvantEDGE for a really good price at Sam's, so I hope I still like the taste after surgery. Oh, and the UPS guy just delivered some Meal Replacement samples from BariatricAdvantage along with the Vitamins my Nut recommended. We are on our way!
