  1. Just had my Lapband revision and hiatal hernia repair done this past Friday. I was originally banded in February 2010 and have lost 74lbs. I began to have problems with my band earlier this year when I was filled too tight. Had two cycles of taking all the Fluid out and trying again but each time I had pouch dilation and very little weight loss. I have been pleased with my band prior to these episodes and was not interested in switching to another WLS. This surgery was definitely different from the first. I was outpatient for the first one but spent the night this time. Doctor said hernia was big with lots of scar tissue. Really sore and not interested in eating. Been nauseated with an upset stomach. Hoping that this surgery will put me back on track so at I can get to goal weight. Just wanted to share in case someone else is in the same situation. My lesson learned is to take your fills slowly and don't rush to get to your sweet spot.
  2. I am scheduled to have lapband revision surgery with a hiatal hernia repair on November 11. I was banded in February 2010 and have lost almost 80 lbs. Have not tolerated fills since December 2010 and the doctor diagnosed me with chronic slip. I am wondering if anyone else has had the revision and how the surgery differed for the first time around. Did you miss more of work than you did originally?
  3. Thanks for the information. I am hoping that this surgery will allow me to get back on track. Having these band slips going on for several months now has really played with my head and I feel like I have "lost" several months of good weight loss. Did either of you have imbrication with your revision? Doctor has offered it as an option for me. How long were you out of work with the revision surgery?
  4. I was banded in February 2010. To date, I have lost 79 lbs. Since December 2010 I have had two episodes where I have had pouch dilation and had to have all the Fluid removed from my band. The first unfill was done in April 2011 and I was refilled in June to 4cc. I was unfilled again two weeks ago. I am going back to the doctor on Thursday to start the process again. I don't know if the ups and downs of band fills has contributed to it or not but I feel like I have lost my lapband mojo. I was doing SO well prior to these episodes and while I haven't gained any weight,I do keep going through about a 5 lb. cycle for the past 8 months. Anyone else who has "lost your way" and found your way back? What got you back on track? Look forward to hearing your ideas. Thanks!
  5. I went to the doctor yesterday for a fill. I am about 15 months post-op. I have lost 80 pounds. I always get a fill under fluoroscopy because I am super sensitive and can get too tight quickly. Well, it was obvious from the test that something was wrong. Nurse stated that my band had slipped and she removed the 5cc I had in my 10cc band. Redid the fluouroscopy after the un-fill but there was no change. Doctor is suppose to call me on Tuesday. Anyone out there have a similar experience. What was your outcome? Would love to hear from others. Thanks!
  6. I attended the information session at Duke today and really don't know a thing about any of their surgeons. If you have been banded there please share any insights you might have. I sure would appreciate it! Thanks!

    Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hi everyone. I was banded on February 19, 2010 in Raleigh, NC. I started at 336lbs and weighed in yesterday at 296lbs. So that's 40 pounds and I had no pre-surgery diet. In addition, i didn't do well with my first fill at the end of March. I was too tight and have had no fluid in my bad ever since. So, I have been doing it without any added restriction. I have recently been feeling a little bummed cause I feel like this is getting harder and harder to do. In addition, my hair is falling out a lot and I am feeling really self-conscious about it. Anyone have an thoughts on how to add more protein? Recipes maybe or supplements?
  8. Ok, so I know a pound is not that big of a deal and I should be happy that I have already lost 25 lbs. I am on regular foods now and when I stepped on the scale this morning I had gained a pound over last week. Feeling pretty bummed about it.... Anyone have any suggestions as to what could be going on? Any thoughts on how to modify so that this won't happen again? Thanks for any help. This process so far has been relatively easy for me and I want to make sure that I keep a good attitude about it.

    4 days after surgery

Well, I did my first official weigh-in at home this morning. Since surgery on Feb. 19 I have lost 14.5 lbs. I am thrilled with that! I am feeling great and not really feeling hungry at all. My food choices last week were not great and at times I was frustrated with broth, broth, and more broth. But I was allowed to introduce creamed soups, yogurt, and milk this week so I feel like a new woman! Have my first followup appointment at the doctor on Friday. Maybe I can reach the 20 lb. mark by then.

    4 days after surgery

Hi there! I was also banded on Friday, Feb. 19 in Raleigh, NC. And I too am feeling great. My surgery was at 9:20am and I was home by 1:00pm the same day. Have felt a little like I have been kicked in the gut but nothing that I can't tolerate. The strangest thing for me is to hear my stomach growling all of the time. broth and Water don't seem to be satisfying me! I would love to know what you are eating. The more I read the more I see just how different everyone's diet is. Hope you continue to feel great.
  11. I was banded this past Friday by Dr. Enochs in Raleigh, NC. My surgery was scheduled for 8:45 but I didn't go in until 9:20. Was done in an hour and back home by 1:00pm. No overnight stay for me and things seemed to move along so quickly. I have had absolutely no gas pain. Just really sore in my belly...like I have been kicked in the gut repeatedly. Trying to move around as much as possible and might venture out of the house today. My stomach is growling as I type this. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Protein during the clear liquid stage other than drinking Isopure? That stuff is so gross it's all I can do to get it down. Thanks for any help.
  12. I am also going through the process with Dr. Enochs. While it is sometimes difficult to get to someone on the first try, they do return your call. I am interested in hearing how everything goes and whether or not you have any advice for working with his office since you are further along in the process.

starting BMI over 50? come on in!

So, I was able to secure an appointment with another doctor in the area, Dr. Enochs. I have only spoken with one person on the phone and she has been super helpful. She was able to get me in next Tuesday and I am excited about the appointment. We will wait and see what this doctor has to say. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

starting BMI over 50? come on in!

Thanks so much for your responses. I am feeling a bit better about it since I first posted on Tuesday. While I know I would lose more weight faster with bypass, I just know that it is not right for me. I would be thrilled with any weight loss! I decided to consult with another doctor in the area to see if he is as adamant about bypass vs. lapband as the folks at Duke were.

starting BMI over 50? come on in!

I just had my first visit with the doctors at Duke in Durham, NC today. I knew going in to it that the doc would recommend bypass since I have so much weight to lose (about 150 lbs). But she was supportive of whatever it is I want to do. Also had dietician consult and bloodwork. However, my visit with the psychologist did not go as I had anticipated. I thought that they would be more interested in why I overate, not what I ate. I was told that because of my eating habits and amount of weight I need to lose I won't be successful with the lapband. I left the appointment in tears. I was so proud of myself for finally going to see someone about my weight and felt rejected when I left. I am conflicted over what to do and was hoping someone out there might have some advice. I really, really don't want to have bypass but am now questioning whether or not I have what it would take to be successful with the band. Any thoughts?
  16. I have my first appointment with Dr. Pryor next week on Sept. 1. I am curious to know how the process has been. Have you found it easy? Any insight you could share would be greatly appreciated.
