My story is one of introductory at this point. My BMI is 49 and I am only 44 years old. I am afraid that if I do not have this surgery, I may not make it to my 50th birthday. August 11, 2009 is the first day of my new life - the day I plan to attend my introductory meeting. I can hardly wait. I have been wanting this surgery for many years, but until last week, could not afford it due to my insurance not covering any of the costs. My hospital and my surgeon have recently worked out a deal with the other doctors involved in order to make it more affordable for those of us who have Blue Cross / Blue Shield of SC and other such insurance companies that do not understand the need for bariac surgeries. How can they not see the need? I don't ever think I will understand, but I have decided it is not worth waiting another minute on them and I am investing my money in myself to create a healthy life. Here's to a new beginning!!!
