My surgery revision from band to bypass was yesterday morning and I got home tonight about 5pm. I’m very sleepy and I will say there is good amount of pain on my left side which is controlled by medication. The biggest challenge I have this early is having a hard time getting comfortable and I have no interest in food. I’m forcing broth and jello. Last week I couldn’t imagine only eating broth and jello and today, I cant imagine being hungry ever. So weird. Even through the fog and pain, I have no regrets!

Lap Band to Sleeve?
Rocky_Mountain_Mama replied to Joan in Oregon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I’m among those who were very successful with the band and loved it. I had it for over 10 years and almost overnight I developed complications. Horrific heartburn, which was quickly followed by not being able to get anything through at all and constant vomiting which brought me to the ER. The band was deflated and the hunger and weight returned. Six months (and +35 pounds) later (which happens to be just over a week ago) I underwent a revision from band to bypass. I’m 8 days post op today. I have to agree with @BayougirlmrsS, I miss my band, and if it was still working I would’ve left it alone, but given the option of no band or a revision to another procedure I’d pick revision every time. -
1 day post op

Oh no!! A UTI is awful when you’re otherwise healthy, it must be downright unbearable following surgery! I’m so sorry! I’m 6 days days post op today and have my first follow up with the surgeon. My energy just started coming back in the last day or 2. I really hope you’re starting to feel better and that your energy returns soon ((hugs)) -

I agree about the difference in surgeries being a wake up call! Band was a much simpler procedure. I was back at work in 5 days, not this time. How are feeling 8 days out? -

Surgery tomorrow - I’m scared!!
Rocky_Mountain_Mama replied to Ilanarose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is also tomorrow and I’m feeling a lot of this too. I’m revising a band to gastric bypass so I feel like, I’ve dive this before, so why the heck am I so nervous?! I think for sure a lot of it is the Covid stuff, and for me it doesn’t help that my family pretty much ignored Mother’s Day yesterday, so I’m feeling sad and sorry for myself today which certainly isn’t the best head space to be in. I hope you will post again after surgery! I’m interested to know how it goes! I know we’ll be just fine and we can compare notes as we heal and get through it! -
Wow!! I’m happily married and probably old enough to be your m....uch older sister, but if I wasn’t.... 😉😉 Congrats on your success and thanks for the inspiration!

I am an employee benefits professional and if you elect COBRA you should be fine. The employer is required by law to treat COBRA participants exactly as they do actively employed participants. You might have some hiccups from it going from active to COBRA coverage, just in terms of one ending and one starting, depending on how quickly you elect the coverage and make your payment. That is easily sorted out once they receive your COBRA Payment and reactivate your coverage. I am SO SORRY that your husband lost his job. That just makes it all so much more stressful. -
Any new surgery dates yet?
Rocky_Mountain_Mama replied to It's time.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Puddinjasper, you described the COVID test perfectly! That was exactly how it felt. It actually helped me deal with it to know what to expect, but so not fun!!! Now just crossing my fingers it comes out negative as expected and my surgery this coming Tuesday happens as planned! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 -
Covid Test!
Rocky_Mountain_Mama replied to Amanda0911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had mine done about 3 hours ago. The description puddinjasper gave in another post was SPOT ON. I will say, being prepared for what to expect helped for sure, but yeah, it didn’t feel good. I’m very glad it’s over and behind me! -

What does full feel like after bypass?
Rocky_Mountain_Mama posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
After being successful for 10 years with the lap band I will be having a revision surgery from band to RNY In early April. The need for revision is like so many others, slipped band and awful GERD that ultimately required deflating and has resulted in my gaining almost all of my pre band weight back. :( My weight struggle had/have a lot to do with the fact that I just simply do not ever feel full. I can eat crazy amounts of food because I just never get a message in my brain that I’m full. The band changed that IMMEDIATELY! I believe that’s why I had such great success, because I knew very quickly if I’d eaten to much or too big of a bite and full was a sensation I finally recognized. As soon as the band was deflated, I went right back to having no sense of fullness and could eat as much and as long as I chose. It’s like I have no shut off valve. My question is this; What does being full feel like after bypass, as in long term, not during the recovery period. Do you know immediately if you’ve taken too big of a bite or haven’t chewed well? Do you stop eating because you know you’re full? As in, “whew I can’t take another bite!” and you don’t even want to, because you feel full! Thanks for any insight! -
What does full feel like after bypass?

Great responses! Thank you! I’m very encouraged by your experiences. I’m so used to full being equal to uncomfortable chest pain and the need to have a bathroom close by. The idea that I can feel full without that...wow! I can’t wait. -
Approved for Solids at 1 week post op
Rocky_Mountain_Mama posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my doctor today for my 1 week post op visit and he was entirely okay with my beginning to try solid foods. He was clear that I needed to be smart about it and only try a small amount of things to see how I tolerated it and to chew well. Other than that he gave me the thumbs up to start trying it out. My band is still open and I don't get my first fill until 8/31, so he cautioned me about that, in terms of gaining weight during this time. There is so much talk about not eating anything other than liquids these first couple of weeks and all the dangers of not following that advice, I was just curious if there is anyone else out there who was given this go ahead by their doctor? I'm a low BMI, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Thanks for any info!:wink2: -

I am so glad to get this feedback! I really trust my doctor and so far the instructions I was given have fit me perfectly, but it's nice to hear that others have progressed to soft/regular foods sooner than two/three weeks post op. Thanks to all who responded (or who might in the future! ) -
Just need some encouragement....

that this will get better. I had my surgery on Friday and the gas pains are really tough. I'm walking, I'm taking deep breaths but neither of those seems to have made much of a dent in actually getting rid of the pain. I just sent hubby out for some gas-x strips so hopefully that will help. It just feels like I have a giant air bubble in my chest and it hurts! I'm also starting to get a headache. The good news is I have zero interest in food. I can sip fluids, but that's it and I'm fine with that now. I just really need to hear that this all sounds typical and it will pass soon. Thanks!
