General Rules of Thumb When Measuring Food

Hi NYGirl82: I'm seventeen months post-op and down 80+ pounds. I've done it slow and it has helped to teach me portion control. I never use a regular plate, I use a salad plate. I cut off a small portion of protein and maybe two tablespoons of a vegetable. I always eat the protein first and then the vegetable. Whenever I eat out I try to find an appetizer that's protein and always have leftovers to take home. I hope this helps, I'm still losing and have 38 pounds to go.

Banding and Diabetes: Did it help?

Hi! I had lapband 17 months ago and I went from over 150 units of insulin a day down to 25 units, I would say that was pretty significant. It took a while (probably a year) of weight loss to get me down to only the 25 units. I'm working on getting rid of those 25 and only being on oral meds. Hopefully I will eventually get off those as well. I also have sleep apnea and that has gotten better as well. Good luck, it will happen. Don't get discouraged, I didn't lose as quickly as some people but it has taught me portion control, I never take more than I know I can eat. The restriction won't allow you to over eat as you will throw it up. Believe me, everyone has tried.
