  1. OH GLORY! I am sooo happy to say that I found a protein powder today that I needed. I am getting banded next wednesday. I have been trying different protein drinks but they all gave me diareah... real bad!:tt2: I was so upset thinking what am I going to do when I found this powder and TRIED it. Its the GNC brand with 60 grams of protein in it. I got a tub of it and am ready to go with it. I was suprised though. Just by reading the lables on the different flavors, how much different the carbs go up. What on earth is that all about?! I mean.. a LOT too.:smile2: Even the guy who worked there said he has not seen that big of a jump due to flavor before. Im just glad I found one for me! Pheshew!

Has Any one else experienced this?

Just try ONE new outfit. Go from there. I had a big problem shopping for sizes that were going UP. When I was gaining weight. The smaller ones looked rediculous on me.. I looked better and felt SO much better in clothes that fit right. The same applys to you going down. To big of clothes look odd too. Why come all through this if your not going to show your real YOU?

    Are co-workers going to notice?

You know, I have a friend that works with someone who got banded. She would say how when her friend would eat, she was always going into the bathroom and throwing up. She said everyone was always talking about her, like "oh, there she goes again.. maybe if she wouldnt eat bad things. They didnt understand things get stuck. I wouldnt even mention anything to work people. They wont be fully educated unless you go over everything you have learned one by one. Thats not gonna happen. Its not like people will see your eating habbits. Shoot, there are some peole who dont eat ANYTHING for lunch at all. They arent going to be watching like a hawk at what your eating or how much.

    Rollerblades

Take it from someone who used to do it all the time~ wrist guards, elbow guards and knee pads are your friends~:scared2: Find your local parks out to see if they have any paved bike trails. Those are the BEST for rollerblading.

    No appetite ):

In our pre-op class, she said the #2 thing happens a lot. She said to buy a bottle of milk of magnesia to have on hand for that. That will help "loosen up the works" so to speak. I hope things get better for you.

    Incision YUCK

First things first, you have to keep the wound clean. I had a major problem with my incision from my last c-section. They had a nurse to come to my home every day and clean the wound. Then they had to reopen the wound to clean it even further into the cut. I then had to heal with an open wound..It was gross. She used a mixture of saline water and peroxide to clean it. The nures at our preop class the other day said to just use peroxide on the wounds. Then let the wound get air. I would call the doc in the morning, unless you are running a fever, and talk to a nurse. They will probably fit you in to be seen. They never did put me on antibiots for it, but thats how they said they handled it. Just keep track of it... dont let it just go~ Infections can take off pretty quickly if you dont handle them the right way. Good Luck!

    Freaking out!

I hear ya! My surgery day is the day after yours~ I am scared too. Theres a lot of emotion that goes into this surgery, dont it!? Theres a lot of risks with it and they are NEW risks.. different than the ones we are already used to just being overweight. I am looking at this as a step by step, day by day thing. Its whats getting me through it all. I am preparing the house like I would if I were going to have a baby. Nesting so to speak.. but this time, its for when "I" come home. I am cleaning so I wont have to after I get home. I bought the things that "I" will need. I got my protein powder and soups and yogurt. I got my magic bullet and medicines. I also got it in my head that "I" am worth all this. I know so, because I see how my kids depend on me. I HAVE to be healthy to survive their childhood and see my family grow up. Oh, and to look good doing it too:blushing:~ I know thats not WHY I am doing it, if it were.. forget that. I want this to help my help problems to disapear.

    Ahhh Tricare.

Hey, hang in there. One thing that I learned getting the approval through tricare was this. The people in the benifits section are SO nice to talk to and helpful! Any time I called they gave me things I needed to know. The problems associated with your weight are key to getting it moving along. I also got an aproval letter from my pcm stating he thought it was something I needed. I am RIGHT on the line of required weight for my hight, so I was worried. I just made sure I got my list of everything I needed and turned it ALL in. It seemed to do the trick. So get the other stuff added onto your request and see how it goes. But CALL THEM. They are realy nice people there.

    Full or stuck?

Is this where the papaya enzyme comes in handy? I have seen the pills both chewable and regular. I plan on getting them soon. I have surgery on the 5th so I wont quite need them for a while.. but was wondering if they help in this situation if it comes up later.

    Today was pre-op class day~

LOL, yea you would have laughed if you would have seen the doom and gloom that was going on in there~ I was the only one who had anything to say in the group or questions to ask durring the class. I was thinking, this seems a little odd. Oh well.. Its a case of a lot of people with little self motivatin I suppose. I didnt let it stop me though! Im a such a nerd, BUT Im a happy one at that! I am glad to get the little tips you offer as well as everyone else through this. I love to hear things and try them for myself. That makes this kinda fun! (Dont be looking for me to say that the end of next week though... Who knows what beast will be released after 24 hours of no food~ YIKES! Ill be letting you all know as we go. Surgery is next Wednesday~ Now, im off to try and find the chewable papaya enzyme tablets I saw on GNC'S website. I hope they have em in the stores.
  12. I tell you what, ANYONE who says this is the easy way to lose weight has it all wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong! I had to get up for this three hour class this morning and drive an hour to get to it. Then, you get into this room with a bunch of people who DO NOT seem like they want to be there. I was a little unnerved. I have a week till my band day and its all so real now. Im signing papers and asking final questions. SHOOT, Next time I see the surg., it will be at the hospital! I did learn a lil something at the class today though. I have to say, I will miss my straw drinking days. I love drinking with a straw~ And the amount she said we would be able to drink after surgery was well... just mindboggling:blink:. This is definately going to be different. I hope I am doing the right thing with this. I sure would like to see the results from success from it. Oh, and one more thing I learned about from my nutritionist. PROTEIN BARS. I tried one from atkins... :drool:Yummy yumm yumm. Hey, a girl has to have SOMETHING to replace the candy bars with. At least this will help with the protein when I go back to solids~ Just have to be careful on which ones to choose. READ THE LABELS Oh well, hope everyone else is doing good in their pre-surgical days~

    July 28th, my band day!

Be prepared for a little more of a tough recovery with the gall bladder being out. My best friend had to get hers out, and she was a sore puppy for about a week or two out. Not only that, but say goodbye to greasy foods for a while. She has a LOT of trouble with that more for the first two years out. She is better with that now. Talk about helping you out with your new diet, eh~ I get my band in a week and am wondering about my gall bladder and how they will tell if I need it out at the same time. The one doc said they will look at it durring surgery, and if it looks like it needs to come out then, they just will.:smile2: I would like to know ahead if they are going to...but how, idunno~ Any way you look at it, good luck to you for your surgery. I hope the best for your recovery and your success~

    Scared and thirsty~

Even tried the one in the tube now.... eeewwwhhuuuhuhuhhhuuuu~ It gave the creapy shivers after I tried a sip... Im just giving up on the clear ones. I have some powder shakes to try now. The taist on most so far do not seem to bother me so much. I gotta more to search. I go for my pre-op meeting seminar thingy on Tuesday. I am understanding that they will give mucho info then. If not, I will just have to get a hold of the dietician then after the surgery. I can Not believe starting in a little over a week, I am going to go 2 weeks without food... that is blowing my mind right now~ Heres to Tuesday*:tongue2:

    Scared and thirsty~

I am having Lapband surgery on the 5th of Aug. I suppose it only makes sence that I would be getting a little scared and anxious. I would think we all go through this some time before surgery. Even losing weight is kinda scary to me. I know that sounds weird, but it is to me. I think I have put some sort of connection that being bigger means I am less vulnerable and nobody will bother me. Im not some little woman that is an easy target for others to harm... Yes, I know it sounds stupid. It's something in my head though. Anyway~ I am getting frustrated with the protein drink thing, and I dont even have to be on it yet. Im just getting prepared. I can drink the pre-made shakes down, but I tried the fruit flavor clear drinks like isopure, and BLLLAAA I am also finding they ALL seem to cause pretty strong diareah. I don't know why~ So this frustrates me, as I can not continue to drink something that does THAT. I am still trying other brands to see if they have the same effect. I PRAY I find that "right" one. The only shakes I have tried so far were the Oh yea brand. Has anyone else had this problem with ANY of the protein drinks?

    Scared and thirsty~

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I know im not lactose intolerant, as I drink milk all the time without problem. Besides that, the "oh yea" drink I had is lactose free~ I know there are MANY different drinks out there to try. I am early in the tasting stages. It gets expensive if you find you cant drink the rest after the first couple sips. I have that test toob one you are talking about. I got it in the fridge waiting to be tried. Its all so strange to be doing this. Talk about going out of the comfort zone, eh. Well, the search continues...
