  1. I am sure this has been discussed many times. There are so many different doctor recommened quantities. My doctor said I should be able to eat most of a Healthy Choice meal or about 8 to 9 ounces of food. Some say 4 ounces. Just curious what everyone is doing.
  2. I have not posted for nearly 2 years. The band has helped me lose a lot of weight. Even though I haven't reached my goal weight (about 30 pounds away) I am still pretty happy I did this. I have found that old habits die hard. The last few months those old habits have been creeping up on me like eating cereal before bedtime, drinking wine in the evenings, eating what ever for dinner. The scale is moving up a little, and I am struggling with that helpless out of control feeling. I know that emotions are playing a big part in this struggle. Thinking maybe I am having some pre-menopause symptoms or maybe depression and my job is stressing me out big time so I have turned to food and booze to sooth myself. I don't think I have done enough over the past 2 years to break those habits that helped me get over weight. How do you break that helpless, hopeless feeling? I don't want a few pounds to turn into a bunch of pounds. :thumbup:

    Low Carb Banders Unite

    Question for everyone. Did you follow a certain diet like Adkins to get started? My doc wants me to cut back on the carbs. Where do I start?
  6. Went to my dr today to see why I haven't lost weight in few months and was told that I don't eat enough and my metablolism has shut down and I am in starvation mode. They suggested a 1,200 calorie low carb diet and gave me a slight unfill. Is there a good site on the web or in here that can lead me in the right direction? All the sites I see on 1,200 calories per day include bread at most meals. Thanks!

    I am with you cyncity. I looke like I may eat less than you and haven't lost a poind in over a year. I am in the 800-1500 range depending on what is going on in my day to day. I have even tried to eat heavily caloried foods for a couple weeks to trick my body (thinking starvation mode) and cut back to normal. Still no gain or loss. Do you think we have a set point that is natural to us? If I ate like my husband who is a couch potato and is skinny I wouldn't be able to get off the couch. Anywho... b* bowl of wheat chex w/2% milk l*3 ounce grilled burger w/cheese and green beans s*home made salsa and about 5 baked totilla chips d*more salsa and a small breadless Ruben (in a bowl and baked) later*2 glases red wine

    Out of shape, where do I start?

    Hi everyone, I have had good success with my band but need to lose 30 more pounds. I know I am really out of shape because I don't exercise and I sit at a desk all day. Thinking I need to start walking to get my metabolism going. For you walkers or those of you who remember starting a walking routine, what do you recommend? Should I try walking as long as I can 2 or 3 days a week or maybe shorter distances every day? I need to break the couch potato cycle. FYI I do have OA in both knees. I have had the knee clean out surgery and don't have pain right now. Thanks!

    Out of shape, where do I start?

    Thanks for the advice. Starting today, not a MOnday like many failed attempts of starting "this Monday" I have made in my life. No time like the present. It is very nice day here in Ohio for a walk. Not too hot. Taking my little chunky Shitzu with me. :frown:

    breakfast**1 med boiled egg and cantelope snack**small fresh tomato and lots of salt lunch**4 boneless buffalo wings and stark of celery w/bluecheese dressing. bad lunch dinner**was weird. waited late to eat, had a piece of taffy, bad idea, pb'd. After it settled down had the meat out of an Arby's beef and cheddar and a couple fries.

    I know you are all right on the exercise. Thanks for the kick in the butt. I tend to eat just about the same things all the time. Today was a little different. **Breakfast - 1/2 cup tuna salad w/ egg **Lunch - toppings off 3 pieces of pizza (heartburn) **Snack - 1/2 cup blueberries **Dinner - about 3 oz grilled burger w/cheese and A-1 and a couple home fries **Snack - 1 glass red wine

    You should ask your doctor what he suggests. I too have bad knee's due to OA and my doctor suggested walking with very good shoes and water arobics..

    Seems to me I am not eating much and I am not losing either. I have been about the same for a year or more. I figure I eat between 800 - 1500 calories per day. I don't have an exercise routine though. I think my metabolism is dead.

    Is eating Cereal a bad thing?

    For some reason I can eat a lot of cereal. As long as I chew and not swollow any air it is a slider food. Talking like a cup plus milk and that is a bad thing because when I just want to eat it is an easy over eat for me so I try not to have it in the house.

    Any wine drinkers out there?

    I think my dr told me to wait about 1 month and then drink 1 glass and see how I do. He said sometimes, especially when you are newly banded and getting fills "drinks" can cause irritation. I think it is pretty much individual. I have been having some heart burn and was wondering if that could be it. I think it is just plain old stress because it is better on the weekends.

    Any wine drinkers out there?

    Used to be a beer drinker. No fizz for me anymore. I do like to drink 1 or 2 glasses of wine most evenings usually before dinner on an empty stomach (then eat). I may drink 3 or 4 glasses on a weekend night. So many different recommedations out there. Calories aside.... Has anyone been told this will harm your lap band?

    How much (quantity not calories) do you eat per meal?

    Thanks everyone. I took a good look at what I was eating. I got rid of the Fire Balls on my desk and added 2 snacks. Mostly fruit. I haven't been active enough. I had knee surgery this past March and even though the doctor says it is OK to start walking I tend to use "but my knee" as an excuse not to do it. Gonna re-vamp my eating and get back to walking until I reach goal.

    Pay for the band! Poll!

    We have Aetna insurance. Our plan stopped covering weight loss surgery about 6 months before I decided to do it. I paid $16,500. So far, worth every penny. I put it on a 0% interest credit card then when that expired I transfered the balance to another 0% interest card. Just made my last payment.

    Banded two years, now have gas, pressure, growling

    Have any of you been tested for that H-plori (or something like that) infection?? It is a bacterial infection that is generally in your small intestines but can move to your stomach. I think a simple breath test is all they do to check for it.

    You are most likely right Merry. I was reading further on this subject after reading your reply. I too have been drinking more and more. It made me realize that I need to be careful on the "transfer of addiction" danger. Never thought I was a food addict until I got banded. Denial (the Nile) aint just a river in Egypt you know? I too haven't lost weight for a while. Thanks for the input.

    Breakfast: med boiled egg snack: 1/2 cup cantaloupe Lunch" 1/4 cup roast beef, 1/4 cup green Beans. 1/8 cup potatoes Supper" 1/4 cup blackened salmon, 1/2 cup potatoes **Yup, I am a meat and potato girl!!
