Hello, For me all of my nutrition appointments (my insurance required 6) were rather short and straight to the point. My first appointment went like this: Before my nutritionist came in I was weighed and had my blood pressure checked. Then I had to write down everything I had eaten and had to drink the day before. Then she came in and she told me my BMI and asked me what my goals were (was I looking for a certain weight or looking to fit in a certain size). I was asked about my general eating habits, questions like: How often do you eat out? What kind of Snacks do you prefer? How often do you drink sodas? Do you eat a lot of bread and Pasta? She also asked me about exercise and previous weight loss attempts. Based on my answers to her questions, she went on to tell me how the band would affect my life. She also showed me on a plate using fake food, what my portions would look like after being banded. We set a weight loss goal for my six month diet (mine was 10lbs) and we set a goal for the first month regarding my eating habits. I believe my first goal was to record everything I ate in a journal so I could get a grasp on what I was really consuming. My 1st appointment lasted about 45 minutes, but the other 5 only lasted about 20. Each time I would have to write down what I ate the day before, write down the type of exercise I was doing and how often, write a new goal for the month and then we would talk about whether I reached my goal from the previous appointment and how I planned to reach the new goal that I had chosen I hope this helps you. Good luck!

My parents, my sister and of course my husband are the only people who will know. Oh yeah and my cousin who is like a sister. They are all very supportive, but did tell me that they loved me just the way I am. I was fine with that because I am doing this for me.

Hello, I just found out that Carefirst approved me for the LAP-BAND® (or Realize Band). What is the least amount of time that anyone has taken off of work? I just started a new job on April 5th and can't take off of work. I work night shift with every other weekend. I plan to schedule my surgery on a Friday morning before my weekend off. So I would have Friday evening, all day Sat, Sun and Mon. to recover. I would then go back to work Monday night. Is this realistic assuming there are no complications with my surgery? Also I sit at my desk for most (95%) of my shift. Thanks! ~Keke

Going back to work after surgery?
mscafe32 replied to mscafe32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for your responses. I do plan to talk with my supervisor, but I just wanted to get a general idea about the minimum amount of time I would need off. I work at a hospital so if I mention anything about any kind of surgery or procedure, I will have to be examined in employee health and have a note from my doctor before being allowed to return to work. I was really trying to avoid all of that, but I guess I should just be honest and hope for the best. Thanks again everyone! -
Although i've been browsing a few boards over the past few weeks, this is my first time posting. I'm a 27 year old wife and mother of 3. I first thought about wls last year, but then became pregnant with my 3rd daughter. She is now 3 months old and I have lost 42lbs so now I am now back to my my pre-pregnancy weight (actually a few pound less) so I want to begin the process of getting approved by my insurance company. I have to do a 6 month diet program and my insurance accepts weight watchers so I begin that next month. I am also scheduled for a WLS seminar at the hospital and an appointment with my PCP next month. So my plan is to do my diet and not lose too much ( it always comes back anyway), and get all of my pre-op appointments and testing out of the way during the process. I've been told that Carefirst approval is pretty quick if you meet the requirements and have all of your documentation. So i am hoping to have my info submitted at the end of January next year and have my surgery sometime in February. And by the way I am 5'5" and 245 with a BMI of 41 and no co-morbidities that I know of. Thanks for reading my post.
