I suffer from insomnia and take Melatonin and have never had any side effects. I used to take Benadryl but that is how I eventually became an insomniac.

Hooray!! For getting through the surgery... Mine is later this month.... Keep us posted.

Melatonin... It's all natural and something I take now. I even give it to my son, some nights.

Anyone done any research on wearing a corset to help with excess skin and helping to reshape the tummy area?

So how are you guys documenting your progress? Photos? Measurements? Blogs? Just curious of what everyone is doing.

Should I or shouldn't I ?

Thank you guys so much!! It really helps to hear your opinions. I interview this Friday!! Fingers crossed!! -
Hey! I'm scheduled for GBS on 2/25. I had the band in 2006- removed 2009. I don't have a support system at all. My mother has Alzheimer's and my dad takes care of her. I live at home with them and my son. We stay here to help out with my mom.... Anyway I'm really scared that her episodes might hinder my recovery. She yells and is violent, it's hard enough being here in regular conditions but adding WLS to it has me scared. I plan on having everything out and easily assessable but I'm just scared and nervous. I don't have many friends and the ones I do are not able to visit me or help me out. I'm used to dealing with things on my own I just wish I didn't have too. Sorry if this sounds like a sob story. My nerves are getting to me, I guess.

I'm in the states and my surgery is Feb 25. I go for all my tests on. Feb 9, nutrition class on the 12th and then 2 week liver shrinking diet. I'm 36, I have a son who is 11 and I'm a single mom. -

All alone in this

I did ask my little sister to take me to the hospital but I'm not sure if she will stay until I get to my room. I will ask her but I think I will have to pay her. And I can get a cab ride home if I need to. -

I know we need additional support for my mom. But we can't get it. She refuses to go to the dr and outside resources are not an option. I want them for her, but she's so abusive to my dad that he won't take action yet. But that's a whole other conversation. I know I'll be ok. I'm just irritated with my friends and family who I am always- always- there for. I'm the one who goes to the hospital when they are sick, makes meals, care packages, does laundry for them, loans them money... Yet I get none of that in return. Which is why I have really downsized who I call " friend" but family should BE family.... I don't know, I have a feeling a serious conversation is headed their way. -

Thanks. I guess I'm just angry? I don't know what other adjective to use... I'm the kind of person that anticipates the needs of others. The truly sad thing is I come from a huge family and not one person has volunteered to take me to the hospital yet. In fact my dad put me on a guilt trip for even having the surgery bc he thinks he will have to take care of me too. I do appreciate this site. I have been creeping for several months but wanted to wait until I was approved before really getting involved. My mom doesn't qualify quite yet to go to a nursing home and I doubt my insurance would cover a nurse for me. My son is 11 and I have asked for his support... But he's Autistic so I have to be very specific with my needs... I do work out of the home and I'm sure I'll get the occasional text to check on me... I'm just trying to think of who I can call if I'm in a jam or need help.... Sad, huh? I'm try to be positive and hope I have a smooth and easy recovery and I won't have to worry about all that other stuff. -
Insurance requirements
starbuckscoffeegal replied to kaseemjones@gmail.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the same boat as you. But I just got approved today for my surgery. I didn't lose any weight even though I was at the gym, cutting calories, and eating healthier. But I am insulin dependent and it's the insulin that keeps my weight on. But I have my surgery date and I had an awesome PCP and Nutritionist who really became like my therapist. You will be fine. I'm sure your dr will work with you if you gain... You can always talk about something else and they don't count that visit and you go back a week later if you do gain. But I think you will be fine. Good luck. I have Aetna btw. -

Aetna last visit today
starbuckscoffeegal replied to starbuckscoffeegal's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was approved today!! Took Aetna less than 48 hours! February 25 is my surgery date!! I am so relieved I can't even believe it. God saw me through all of it and I am so thankful. -
Just out of curiosity... But why didn't your surgeon submit to your insurance company? Especially regarding the medical records?

Who did your surgery? I was banded in 2006, and then unbanded in 2009 I had some complications and have since regained all of my weight. I'm going for gastric bypass this time. -
I'm waiting on my insurance approval. Dr Batista at St Mary's Hospital. Anyone else in Richmond?

help.. banded in 2006 lost and then gained
starbuckscoffeegal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HELP!!! So upset! I was banded March 30,2006. My biggest fill was 7.0 cc and I went from 295 to 216 within the first 18 months. I went to my surgeon regularly, and was very pleased with my results. I went to my Dr. in August of 2007 and did not get a fill- stayed at 7 cc, and then went back in December 2007. During my xray the surgeon discovered that my bad was slanted... he de-filled me and put me on a two week liquid diet. I went back, and they could only fill me to 3 cc. January of 2008, I lost my job and my health insurance....I have since gone up to 269 lbs.. and I throw up/vomit several times a day and rarely eat. But for some reason I cannot lose the weight, even though I don't keep much food down. I cannot see any surgeon or specialist, I am currently working, but they don't offer health insurance and I can't afford to just go and self-pay. What do you think is wrong with my band???? -

starbuckscoffeegal replied to starbuckscoffeegal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's just it. I would love to go to the doctor. My family is really concerned... I have no way to go to the doctor.... My doctor won't see me, because I don't have insurance anymore... believe me- I don't like vomitting everything I injest. I just don't know why I gained weight? -
