    Did/Do you ever??

:thumbup:I am reading that book also. It's so informative. Just can't put it down. I just talked to the psych about this same thing a couple weeks ago. I guess we all feel like we may fail once again, after so many tries. You all reassured me.
  8. I am half way through my 6 mos supervised diet. As Jeepman said, it is more like keeping track of what you are eating and learning to modify your diet in preparation for banding. My first 3 months have flown by, so I'm getting excited now about the next 3. Oh, I was to lose 12 lbs for my 6 mos. I have already done so, so am just maintaining now. Think positive, all these hoops we have to go through will pay off in the end.
  9. Hey Neener I think you can at least give it the best try you can. I am sure that if you at least show them you are trying that's what's important. I know for my current 6 mo supervised diet, I am having to write down everything I eat. The journal sits right by my chair so I have no excuse to use it. Throw all the candy, cookies and anything else that tempts you out the door. That will be the biggest help. I don't go away from the table hungry I just eat MORE veggies (lots of big mixed salads and hot fresh steamed veggies), fruit, chicken and brown rice. We have steak, hamburgers minus the buns, sandwiches with those new thin buns by Oroweat I think it is. Soups are really filling and low calorie (however may be high sodium), they are easy to take to work or school and just heat in a micro. I also am adding a scoop of Whey Protein in my coffee each morning (chocolate) and honestly it helps keep me satisfied for a few hours. I always have my 3 meals a day and a snack bar etc in between, so I am eating at least every 2-4 hours something, keeps me from getting that "starving" feeling where I start grabbing anything in site. I keep a big basket of only 100 calorie snacks, raisins, popcorn (100 c), protein bars and snack bars on the kitchen counter so I have no excuse there, just have to grab something. Oh and I use Slim Fast also in between or replacement. I started this diet with being able to have 2000 calories a day, which is a lot to me know. I am down to probably 1400-1500 daily now after 3 months and doing good. I have lost a total of 20 lbs. This month won't be as much as I am honestly trying to take it slower, so as not to fall below the acceptable BMI for insurance purposes. These were all hints from the nutritionist and psych. YOU CAN DO IT.:scared2:

Good books on lap band surgery

Great site Pipedoc. Thanks for posting it for Spencerb333. It's great for all of us. I am reading a book right now waiting to get banded while on my 6 month supervised diet. The book is "Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band" by Robert W. Sewell, M.D., F.A.C.S. It's quite informative for before and after getting the AGB.
  11. Another amazing transformation. You look great

    sleep centers are a scam

My sleep over was a breeze. The room was newly decorated, just like a hotel room. Nice bed, TV, private bathroom, etc etc and coffee in the morning. I can't complain about it, they were all very nice and it was very easy, even though it took a couple days to get the goop completely out of my hair.

    sleep centers are a scam

Great topic. I just had my sleep over last Sunday night. Of course I am sure I will have to get a CPAP, even though no one at home complains about me snoring. It will look good in the corner of the room with a blanket draped over it until I can return it after the surgery. I'll let you all know what happens, the sleep disorder doctor has to call and tell me his findings from the study yet.

    5 months to go

I am into my 2nd month of a 6 months supervised diet. The first month went kinda slow but this last one has flown by. Oh and I have to go in to see my PCP for monthly weigh ins, diet tips and supervision. She started me on a 2000 calorie diet. I lost 8 lbs, now I am doing a 1700 and have lost 6. It's a matter of eating better and less.

    supervised diet???

I am into my 3rd month of a 6 month supervised diet. I am riding my recumbent bike as much as possible (bad knees). I am trying to maintain a 14000-1700 calorie or so and am losing some weight. I have lost 15 lbs so far, so will now slow it down a bit. I really am only required to lose about 12 lbs. I must say I am really trying to eat healthy in preparation for the rest of my life. And it's pretty easy. I do still have a bit of ice cream once in a great while or a cookie or a Hershey's miniature. But this is rare. My snacks are 100 calorie prepackaged snacks. Lots of fruits and veggies has helped too. I am determined to get the band next spring and will do what it takes to get me there. Tonight is my sleep over for the apnea thing. Yeah I can hardly wait.
  19. Karen your pictures are great. I can hardly believe it's you. You did great.

    Hi from Oregon

Well, I think I found my place. I have been reading in the "50s" group, but I think this is where I belong. I am 59 and starting my journey to bandland as I see some call it. I have done the info mtng, psych, dietitian, and tomorrow is the sleep study cons. My DH is 63 and it looks like maybe he will follow after my lead. He says lets get me through it first. I took a look at myself and thought "heck, you're almost 60 and better get a grip on yourself girl". So here I am. I'll be lurking and reading, maybe even asking some questions along the way. Oh, I feel so much more comfortable here!:tongue2:

    Psych Consult

My psych appointments went really well. The psych I saw is very easy to talk to. The first vist was mostly to get to know each other. She asked questions about why I wanted the LB and about the reasons I feel I am overweight and have never been able to keep weight off before. The second visit we went more into my emotional eating problems, and what the problems stem from. I am going back about every 3 weeks until at least I have the procedure done, maybe longer. This is my own choosing. It was very easy if you ask me. I hope to use these visits for my future with being banded.

    My surgery is Oct 8th!!

Oh my gosh you guys. How exciting. We are all pulling for you. Let us know each of you how it goes. Good luck and prayers to you all
  23. I understand full heartedly. I have no problem taking the weight off, I've lost 100s of lbs over the years. It's the keeping it off I can't get right. That's the reason I opted for the band. If I could have kept the last 80lbs off I lost, I wouldn't be here. As for the hoops we have to go through, I personally think it is a way to show how determined I am to have this. I am already into my 3rd month of a 6 month supervied diet and it has flown by. Plus it has given me time to get all the testing and appointments in. As for "1. that they want you to lose weight so that you are below the qualification level so they don't have to approve you," I was told by the nurse that they send in my first starting weight to the insurance company for approval, not what weight you end with. That was one of my big questions too.
