I'm glad you mentioned that. I also wanted to suggest a new Protein powder they came out with called BeBuff just for women and I also liked the muscle milk light and myoplex mixes they sell. GNC also has a card you can use to get a certain percent off and it's worth it if you plan on shopping there once a month at least.

This makes me so happy! I was a little worried I'd be incapacitated when I get home from surgery. I can handle pretty much any pain... just was concerned with all the incisions I need. Good luck to all and keep us posted!

that's awesome! and histerical! lol Well I am also like you had a blood clot scare years ago but the doctor said they would probably just put me on some kind of med to prevent it after surgery. I also have my appointments scheduled for this month. I'm hoping a late September early October date for surgery. I'm already approved through insurance and psych so now onto upper GI, nutritionist, sleep study and blood work! woohhooo!!! I'm excited!

How long did your process take to get approval?
nkara replied to Tory09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work for the hospital where the doctor works and performs the surgery. They submitted the insurance approval first and I got approved in about 2 weeks. Now I'm just going for all my appointments. -
pre surgery testing
nkara replied to cristalrosebud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the blood work and upper GI require fasting.. other than that your good. -
not quite sure why the test is required prior to surgery but I have my consultation scheduled for the 31st. You guys think it was hard on you I work 3rd shift! How the heck am I going to do this? They said they can do it during the day since that is when I sleep. I'm a horrible sleeper to begin with. I need a sleep mask and earplugs at home to sleep. So if I have to do it on a night I have to work this will be interesting! UGH!

Impatiently waiting for the next step.....

I'm feeling very grateful that my insurance was approved in less than 2 weeks. My doctor had that done before I even scheduled any appointments. I have them all scheduled for this month and hopefully I can schedule my surgery for September! YEA! I'm so excited. -
I just watched an actual surgery being done on youtube. It was pretty invasive and looked painful. I expect the pain from the gas. I had a tubal ligation so I know what that feels like. How painful was it after for all who have had it? I was expecting the normal two incisions... but looks like it will probably be more on the 4 or 5 range. My previous scars I can't even see anymore so I'm assuming it will be the same with this.

Long time lurker, first time poster with surgery date!
nkara replied to Megan9463's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
is it a major problem with getting "stuck" I actually hadn't heard of that before. Has anyone tried muscle milk shakes? They taste pretty good. Not sure if that's allowed? -
all I have to say about the above is YUK! lol I have my insurance approval and all my appointments scheduled so I'm hoping to have my surgery in September. I can't wait! As far as diet I was thinking alot of Protein shakes.. Meal Replacement type. I was on a full liquid diet for 6 months last year to try and loose weight and keep it off.. no success but I'm prepared for not being able to eat food for a few weeks/months if needed.

I received my approval for my surgery from the doctor today. Called and scheduled all my appointments. I have most of them scheduled for August. The last one will be the sleep study. August 31st is the consult and then I'll have to make the appointments for the actual date on the sleep study. I can't wait! :wink2::Banane56::nanahump:

Didn't expect Pre-Op diet to be so easy!
nkara replied to HolliJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow you got approval and surgery schedule fast. I'm hoping mine will go just as fast. I met with the NP on Tuesday and now just waiting for the insurance approval which will be no problem since I work for the hospital. I'm just worried about scheduling my appointments once I get the go ahead. Congratulations and good luck -
How much do you pay with insurance?
nkara replied to pickles123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm hoping the same thing as well. I work for the company where the surgeon is located so I'm hoping I won't have to pay much out of pocket. -
Has anyone ever had to gain weight in order to have the Lapband surgery.
nkara replied to mandie175lbs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm actually staying at my current weight to stay at 41 BMI because I don't have any other factors the BMI is my only reason. Plus I've been heavy for 30 years and havne't been able to loose the weight and keep it off. I just went to the doctor yesterday and they are sending it off for insurance approval. But I won't have a problem since I work for the hospital that the doctor works for. I'm just waiting now. I'm soooo excited! Call your insurance company if your going through them or call around to different doctors. -
Hi everyone. I'm so glad I found this board. I'll tell you my story and try to keep it short. :Dancing_wub: Been heavy since I was 10 and I have tried everything. Weight Watchers, Optifast, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig... etc....etc... Well I'm still heavy and I'm at about 40 BMI, I don't necesarrily have health issues that I know of. EX: diabetes, sleep apnea etc. But I'm going tomorrow to meet with a surgeon for the Realize band. I'm just so sick of being fat and unhealthy. I called my insurance company and checked with them to make sure I will be covered and they did say yes as long as it's medically necessary and done as an out patient. Cross your fingers for me... I really need to do this!

This is me taken about a month ago; 8 months post op. Down 65 pounds!! Didnt really think there was a difference until you see your "befores" and "afters"!!!

I called my insurance plan and they told me as long as it's medically necessary and out patient it's covered. I think I'd need to pay for part of it though. I meet with the doctor tomorrow. I'm in the same boat at you. Right at 40 BMI and have tried everything under the sun! Good luck!

I noticed that your under the BMI guidelines. Did you have any other risk factors. I don't mean to be too nosey but I'm meeting with the doctor tomorrow to see if I will qualify and I'm so scared I won't meet the guidelines. I am sick and tired of not having control of my weight. I've been fat since I was 10!
