  1. I say congratulations! I know it's scary and you'll be nervous until you get checked out but just think. It was meant to be!
  2. Congrat's to you and give yourself a pat on the back! I've seen threads where people are pissed after their banding because they think the band will be a miracle where your weight will just instantly drop off you. It's a tool to help you make better decisions! I'm so happy you found this out and are coming to terms with this aspect of the banded life. To everyone else out there learn from this... be patient with yourself. This is an emotional process and we all know that gaining weight was emotional, therefor loosing the weight will be emotional. I was told it would take 2 years to loose the 80 lbs I want to loose... Do I want it to come off instantly? of course... but I'm going to have to accept the fact that it won't and just be patient with myself and my body. I want to be healthy for the long haul. I don't want a quick fix and I certainly don't want to go through this constantly for the rest of my life. ok I went off on a tangent .. but again congrats on your enlightenment and be strong!
  3. I've read many post's on this board that it is common after surgery to feel that way. I would tend to agree with the previous poster that it is from the tube when you had surgery but if you would feel more comfortable talking to your surgeon please call him.
  4. my doctor and nutritionist both told me I would loose the weight I want in 2 years and I want to loose 80 lbs. So yes.. they expect this process to be slow with weight loss and that's ok with me as long as it's coming off and I'm not yo-yo'ing anymore.
  5. I'm so excited and nervous all at the same time. I have a November 12th surgery date. :w00t: I met with the NP in August and got insurance approval right away. I then did all my appointments in September and met with my surgeon end of September and he gave me my surgery date! I just filled my prescription for Lovanox and just found out it is an injection I have to give myself twice a day for two weeks after surgery. I have a history of blood clots after surgery. So once I get the shock of that out of my system I'll be good! I'm a little nervous about gaining more weight prior to my surgery date. I have been "trying" to eat better but not feeling it. lol...... My doctor didn't give me a diet prior to surgery or anything so I'm just doing this for me I guess. Good luck to everyone and keep us informed for thos of you who have already completed surgery.

    Yoga Anyone?

I've taken a few yoga classes and I really enjoyed them. I think once I have my surgery and recover from it I'll start back up again. It's really great exercise and you do feel better after. I tell you though at the end of my first class I was hating the downward facing dog!
  9. well I'm glad to see this thread. I love salads and I was worried I wouldn't be able to eat them anymore. I think I'm more obsessed about getting the food stuck than anything else.
  10. your weight can fluctuate daily due to water retention. Make sure your drinking enough liquids and only weigh yourself once a week.
  11. I go for my surgery on November 12th and I know from past surgeries the gas pain in horrible. I slept in a recliner for several days until the pain went away.
  12. It really wasn't that bad. I had to drink 3 things. The first was a fizzy mixture. That was kinda like alka seltzer. The second was a thick barium. The consistancy was very very thick and tasted kinda chalky. The last was a thinner barium that didn't really taste like much. All in all I was pleasantly surprised about the test. Good luck to you on your day!
  13. I had this test on Friday. I was soooo nervous :cursing: What made this extremely difficult is I hate drinking medicine so I was very nervous and anxious about doing this test. I also worked night shift prior to the 10:00 am appointment. So I was at work not able to eat or drink anything from 12:00 pm to the test. I got to the doctor and waited and waited and waited... lol but then they finally took me in. The doctor told me to drink the "fizzy stuff" no burping. It was gross! Kinda like gross tasting pop rocks. Then I had to drink the thick barium slowly as he took the pictures... Once that was done he lied down the table with me on it and I had to roll around to coat my stomach for more pictures.. Then I took 2 sips of the thin barium and it was done. I passed! I don't have any functioning problems. Next up is my nutrition eval, pulmonary test and sleep study! I can't wait to get this all done and have surgery. I actually have 2 of my neighbors looking into having it done as well. It will be a lapband neighborhood! lol
  14. I'm so excited. I am schedule for my surgery on November 12th. I will be out of work for 2 weeks and I can't wait. Let me give you a little back ground information. I'm 41, BMI of 40.5 with no co-morbidities. I have been overweight since I was 10. Tried every diet out there including a doctor supervised liquid diet and nothing works.. or I should say it kinda works but I can't keep the weight off. I looked into getting banded last year but that is when I wanted to try one last ditch effort on my own. Hence the liquid diet. I lost 50 lbs but immediately started to gain it back. I'm sick of being overweight and unhealthy. I want to feel good... and I just don't right now. I feel like a beached whale! :w00t: So I work at a hospital as a CNA on third shift, go to school for Respiratory Therapy and I'm also doing this. I have alot of my plate (no pun intended ) I am going to be so happy to have my band done and I am looking forward to the new ME! Wish me luck.
  15. that's my first thought when I came across this post... but I'll put my two cents in here. I was coaxed into trying it years ago by my BF... who I'm still with and I have to say I did enjoy it alot... Now however I can't stand it. It does take some getting used to and an experienced patient person but to each is own.

    is it just me?

Absolutely 100% agree with you. I'm thinking the same thing. I'm being banded November 12th. I am thinking will this work since nothing else has for me. Can I do it this time? Will it last this time? I'm sick of people seeing me who haven't seen me in years and knowing they think to themselves.. "oh look, she is fat again"...... yup... I hate it. This is my last chance as well. But we have to think positive right? We can do it! That's going to be my mantra... even if I don't believe it some days. WE CAN DO IT!
  17. make sure you are getting protein too. That will help with the hunger.

    Walk of shame

Starbucks! mmmmmmmm hey it could have been .. don't beat yourself up with a slip. We are only human... getting the band doesn't make you immune to the powers of food... lol

2 years out and need to talk

I agree with the previous posters... go back for a fill. I haven't had my surgery yet but my doctor suggest's that it will take 3 years to loose with fills all through that time. Please take the time to check back in with your surgeon and I wish you nothing but the best.

I'm done telling people about lap-band

I think it's the fear of the unkown for most people. I have told everyone, my co-workers, friends, most family and they are all supportive. Most of them think it's cool and I even have a neighbor doing it as well. As soon as she heard about it she found a doctor and went through the pre-op testing. All surgeries are risky. As the previous posters said. However the risk's are smaller depending on how "healthy" you are prior to surgery. That is why the surgeon does so many pre-op tests. All in all I think the positives far outweigh the negatives. If your health is in jeopardy due to your weight and you want to be healthy than it is absolutely worth it. Show them how happy and healthy you are after and they will probably change their toons!

first fill - down in the dumps.

I keep seeing post's like this and I'm worried that some people don't realize or the doctors aren't reiitrating that the band is only to "help" you loose the weight. It's not supposed to do it for you. Eating less and a well balanced diet is part of the whole process.
  22. congratulations! Sounds like everything is off to a great start. I'll be right with ya in October...

    3 1/2 weeks post op

oops.. I guess I shouldn't read too fast ... lol
  24. Oh jeezz... I didn't even consider this. I have had two prior surgeries and didn't wake up with the tube. I will make sure I tell the surgeon the tube MUST come out prior to me waking up or I will freak!

    5 years documented weight

I'll say what my mother tells me all the time. Always file an appeal.. even if it's 10 times. She actually works for BC/BS and said that 80 - 90 % of the time they will approve on an appeal.
