Starting Pre-op diet Sunday! Who's done it?
nkara replied to jessicakolman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm gradually starting to cut back.. I got on the scale the other day and was 9 lbs heavier than when I met with my surgeon! My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet either but I feel that it will give me a head start too. I just had a protein shake for breakfast and will continue with liquid portion of diet till my surgery November 12th! Can't wait  -

Yes that is tablespoons. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to tweek the recipe to your liking. I actually ordered a cd with 200 recipes on ebay for shakes from someone who had WLS and I'll see if I can post some for you all.

slow progress- need advice
nkara replied to Jill 1821's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have a nutritionist to meet with? It actually sounds like your not getting enough calories in ... going under the required intake might slow down weight loss but still losing 15 lbs is an amazing success. I would suggest maybe adding a Protein shake into the equation to bump up your intake and see if that helps. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress! -
You think you got problems
nkara replied to justforme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what Erin said is so true. YOu have to eat something within 2 hours of waking up ... your body needs it and craves it. With out that you will slow down your metabolism and your weight will either stall or even go higher. Even if it's only a Protein Shake try to get something in you. As far as weight loss and losing 88 lbs in 16 months... that's awesome! I was told it would take 2 years to loose the 80 lbs I want to loose so don't put yourself down for that accomplishment and look to the future! -
Insurance said yes, then no after the procedure.

 You go girl! Fight till your hearts content. Don't let the big companies take advantage of you. This whole weight loss issue and surgery is an emotional enough process without having to go through this additional stress. -
Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
nkara replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
well I think anyone who needs and wants the surgery should have it. I myself am just 5'2" and my BMI is 40.5 so I just made the cut off for surgery. I've been overweight since I was 10 so 30 years of trying to loose weight and keep it off. I might not have co-morbidities but I can not do yo- yo dieting anymore. -
You want me to lose how much??
nkara replied to meldlc37's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I actually did a protein shake diet though the hospital last year and yes you can loose that much. I lost an average of 3 1/2 lbs a week and that's awesome for me. -
What do you eat in a typical day?
nkara replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well like you said everyone is different but you do need to make better choices and eat healthy. I don't know about going that low with calories under 900 calories puts your body in starvatio mode. But if it is working for you then go for it. The gentleman that lost eating more calories is absolutely normal.. he's a man and working out to gain more muscle so he can eat more. Just try different things and you'll find the balance that works for you. -
Hello questions on lapband process
nkara replied to Gizg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is different for everyone. For myself I met with the NP and she submitted my paperwork to the insurance company. I received the approval in about 3 weeks and scheduled all my pre-op procedures. (chest X-ray, Nutrition, Psych, upper GI, EKG, blood work and sleep study) I was able to complete all my appointments in one month. I met with my surgeon on Sept 30th and have my surgery date for November 12th. Good luck! -

My suggestion would be don't pay it and go talk to a lawyer. You were swindled! -
I have a slip confirmed by CT - do I need to go to the ER NOW?
nkara replied to Done's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would wait to see your surgeon. They are the ones experienced in this and you don't want someone just messing around in there. I hope you get the pain relief and are seen soon. -

Pissed Part II - A Different Perspective
nkara replied to LisaMc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no you don't! :mad2:no appologizing for expressing your feelings. The emotions are real and valid for everyone who goes through this hell. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to slap the one person who said "well why don't you just eat less" ... da! if it would only work that way it would be soooo much easier. Keep your head up and just do what you can and we'll encourage you along the way. :cursing: -
what you are experiencing is very common. Your body is adjusting. Your weight loss is awesome! Keep up the good work!
