Thankfully, I am just about fully recovered. . .got doc words last week: "probably" won't need any surgery, and if all is healed then can FINALLY get my first fill on Tues. 22nd. . .yeah! Pheww what an ordeal this was. . .but hey, take them as they come, one step, one day at a time. . .at least the road to recovery didn't involve surgery AGAIN. . .!!!

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone! I am feeling a little better today. It's wierd because I have this huge hole of a cut in the middle of my belly and it is making me queasy and off balance, a bit light headed if I am up and about for too long. But, at least there isn't anymore severe pain! Hopefully I am headed to finer days! And eventually a fill!

isaviolinist, Thank you so much!! I am working on it!! I was starting to get homesick being at the hospital. My husband has been really great about helping me out and making sure my rear end stays parked:). I'm not known for being a good sick patient, though with the fear of surgery pending, it gives me good motivation. You have some great stats!! Keep up the great work! Darce

Adelarosa, What did they do about your infection? If you don't mind sharing. . .I have one, and was in the hospital for 4 days. . . So bummed!

    Complication

I was banded on 8/6 and had had no problems till this past week. I woke up Tuesday morning in excruciating pain, :eek:could barely walk. I called my doc and he had me come in. I had pain over my port and on my left side. He couldn't figure out why I was having so much pain so sent me for a CAT scan. The CAT scan came back and everything looked fine. I went home and stayed in bed all day and night. During the night I spiked a 101 fever. The next day, I had to go to work for a few hours for an important meeting so I took some Ibprofen and went in. By the time I left work I was in tears again. I called the doc and he sent me in for some blood work and put me on an anti-biotic. By the time I went to get the lab work they had closed so I picked up the antibiotic and went to the grocery store to pick up something to eat. While there, the incision above the port started oozing puss. I freaked out. Thank God my husband was there to keep me calm! I called the doc and they sent me to the ER. My doc told me initially that he was going to have to do surgery to remove my port, wait till I healed and then replace it. Then, my doc opened the insicion there in the ER and drained it. He then told me it wasan't as bad as he had thought and that I may not need surgery but I needed to stay in the hospital. I was in the hospital on IV antibiotics from Wed. night till around noon today. They finally found out that I had contracted a Staff infection. Thankfully it wasn't MRSA because that is really really seriously dangerous. I am now on antibiotics and hoping to keep healing. If the infection doesn't go away, he is going to have to do surgery, take out the port, wait for me to heal, and then attempt to put the port back in, which he said has only work 2 out of 3 times (ie. he has only done it three times and it work 2 of the times). Pheww, what a frickin whirlwind!! At least I am not hunched over and in excruciating pain like I was on Tues. and Wed. But still very sore and tired. Now I have an open wound that I need to bandage every day too. I'm a teacher and start on Monday. GRrr!!

10 days post-op and still in some pain

Adela, Wow, you articulated a lot of how I am feeling, and I am having that same pain in my left side. All of my incisions are fine, but i have the pain on my side often and it feels like a cramp in my side when i walk. . .it's kinda weird, gonna give my doc a call on Monday if I still have it, and if it is worse tomorrow, I will call the on-call nurse. . .but I am glad to know that someone else is experiencing it (sorry ) to know that I am not the only one! My husband is 1 day post op and he has the belching sooo bad! At least I don't have that! Darce

    Dehydration

Unforgettable. . . I moved on to stage 2 yesterday (even though it was formally today). . .(doctor approved. . .) but he did caution to not rush things. . . So basically my options are broth, Jello, milk, applesauce, Protein shakes, or sugar free pops. . .not much fun but beats just broth and that clear Isopure Protein Drink stuff. . . anyway. . .onward I go!

    3 full days post op!!!

Patty- OMG, I feel your pain!! Making my kids lunch and dinner was never so tortuous, and a chicken nugget never looked so golden in my life. My post-op is stage 1 Clear Liquids, stage 2 liguids, stage 3 pureeds, stage 4 mushies and then finally real bood on stage 5, and no red meat till 8 weeks post op (each stage is one week). . . Dude, I say go for the garlic:)LOL. . .Not sick, totally funny though! I have been really struggling with wanting to eat more than what stage I am on. . .I have goofed a few times, but went right back to my docs orders knowing that is what I need to do for my health and safety and success really:). Remember, every day is a battle that we can win! All the bickering on this site is kinda weird, I think we can all express our thoughts, ideas, opinions, and experiences in a respectable and kind way. . .that way we can help each other as much as we can through support and learning from one another. I have to be honest, I am learning so much from everyone. . .hopefully this can stay a board that supports each of us on this journey. . Patty-back to you--good luck. . .if you have any real concerns, call your doctor, they know best (not us--that is why we are here) And no matter what, we on this board should be there to help you get through each challenge ... Dehydration

Formerfatchick- Thanks for the advice, my docs reqs are 35-40 grams of Protein a day. . .and my Protein shakes have 35 grams in them. . .so that is good. . .I think I am okay, I think the lightheadedness earlier was mostly from not eating the Protein shake early enough. Being 8 days post op, I was eating them around 10am, and today I waited till about 2:30-3pm. . . By the way my name is Darce. . .

    Dehydration

Unforgettable. . .Thanks! This was the first day I felt like totally refusing to eat. . .I know it's healthy. . .that's why I sat myself down, ate my protein shake (ick--okay it's really not that bad, just not what I would rather eat), and then and hour and a half later I ate some broth, and then about 3 hours later I ate a sugar free pop, and I have probably had about 32 oz. of water so far today. . .
