Saw the surgeon yesterday; asked if I had any questions. I laughed. Seriously - no. After seeing my internist, the cardiologist, the pulminalogist, the psychologist, the nutritionist, the dietitian, and attending two "Learning to Live" sessions - dealing with stress; eating patterns, . . . I sincerely didn't have any questions. So we shook hands and agreed we'd see each other next Friday - July 31st for surgery. I did tell him that I didn't like that he recently changed his protocols. He had a puzzled look on his face so I told him that two friends of mine had him as a surgeon in Dec 08. Their pre-surgery diet consisted of protein shakes replacing one meal daily for the two weeks prior. Since then he changed things so that now patients are on a full liqued diet two weeks prior to surgery. He smiled and said that yeah - things changed but it's all with the goal for a better / easier outcome. Can't argue with that! Of course there is an upside - I've alredy lost 11 pounds!

A few years ago I noticed of friend of mine was reading a book with a title along the lines of "How to Have the Hard Discussions in Your Life" I don't have a clue as to the actual content of the book but the title stuck in my mind. This past spring my wife and I were Vegas hiking at Red Rock. Well, she was hiking, I was strolling. The moment of truth came when she took off up a 200' vertical climb to a scenic overview. Twice. Last Dec - 08; two very good friends had Lap Band surgery. They've lost 50 & 60 pounds each. This spring I realized I needed to have a hard discussion with myself. That afternoon I made an appointment to see the same surgeon my friends went to. They say a journey starts with the first step . . . I'm now 11 days from surgery.

Geez, kinda makes you wonder doesn't it! I have to say I'm kinda surprised at your stats. 5/8 / 210. I'm 5/9 and 282 and having the surgery next week. I'd be very happy to be 210! Good luck!
