My Dr called and apologized for her unprofessional staff and d/w me the failed manometry and going forward. I vented all my frustration on her and she took it and I guess my surgery is back on. I just wanted to know that I can trust my doctor and that she is responsive-am I asking to much? I am scared but hopeful. Just reassure me that this is a simple procedure and nothing will go wrong..PLEASE :heh:

She told my husband after the surgery. I think she decides when she is in there. I like that I have a large band. I have no restriction now but they can adjust that. With a small band you are always restricted unless they remove it. -

The procedure went smoothly. Dr Ayloo is conservative and a great surgeon so you should sail through with minimal pain. You should not be too restricted. She gave me a "large" band so I have had no Restriction at all, I go for my first fill Sept 12th and get my band "activated" so to speak. Mary anne is the best. I did have a reaction to the bacitracin after surgery, that was the worst- so itchy. The recovery was otherwise smooth, I took off 5 days, and then back to work with no problem. Feel free to ask me anything... -
Hi everyone Sorry, I have been lost to the boards for awhile. Surgery went great, was healing well then had a severe allergic reaction to (we think) the antibiotic ointment. i also got adhesive burns, so for the last week, i have been miserable. I am finaly healing. I have a large band so I have no restriction at all. I have my first fill nest week. I have not lost anyweigt since surgery. I am eating pretty normal for now. We will see after my fill. Anyway, looking for support. I am weight watchering.

I was banded 2 days ago. i have this sensation of fullness and pressure in my chest. Drinking fine. Not painful. Just annoying? Is it normal and wil it go away?It almost feels like something is stuck in my throat. :help:

You are brave. I have done tomato soup popsicles and juice. I am starving though. The thought of a "PB" stops me though.
-
glad i am not the only one. Strange how i feel fluctuates so much. Tim, what are you allowed to drink?
-
Glad you are back bug. Me too. Surgery went great. I agree the gas is the worst. I also have sore throat from the intubation. I have had popsicles, chicken soup (just the liquid part), Jello (that hurt a bit) and some tomato soup. The Lortab made my stomach hurt so I am sticking to Motrin. For all those who went ahead...When did your gas pains go away? When did you shower? Anyway, I am so glad to be home and safe and starting my new life. Did I mention I lost 14 lbs on the pre=op diet! Yahoo! :clap2:

The doctor called and told me that not only will she do the surgery despite being unable to get the manometry, but that she is moving up my date the the 15th. I am overwhelmed. I am excited that this is finally going to happen and nervous about undergoing surgery. All of you have been such an inspiration. When i get nervous, I look at all of your B&A pictures. it is nice to read your posts and feel a sense of belonging-You guys really understand! Also, she was nice to me and treated me like human being. Anyway, thank you for all you help through this process. Say a prayer for me on the 15th

The Doctor Called and Made things right

Thanks for the support. My guts has been feeling very "shaky" to this point. I have been trying to sort out whether is it preop jitters or real concerns over my surgeon. She did reach out to me and I am grateful. Everyone who knows me knows I have "a little black cloud". I try hard to not let my attitude perpetuate it. I want this so bad. I want my new life to start. I just wich there could be a little more empathy in the world and a little more kindness... -
The Doctor Called and Made things right
natashiki replied to natashiki's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have studied this procedure for 2 years. I think what is throwing me is that the doctor I wanted left unexpectedly. My choices were to cancel or accept his replacement and keep my date. She is well qualified but she is less "hands on" that what I expected. I never thought I needed alot of hand holding but when "little things" keep popping up like my manometry nightmare (I couldn't stop retching) and anesthesia (We can't find your paperwork), and radiology (Them asking me "What is a marshmellow swallow?) I was feeling like the cart was driving the horse. The UIC complication rate is 1% (actually 0.8%) I just don;t want to be in that small percentage and so far they have not impressed me. I have talked to others and they all had no problem at UIC but I feel like it is a so impersonal and disorganized. I have heard your guys talk about the importance of follow up care. I have my doubts about this program but this is the only one my insurance will cover. I want this, I just wish they would take some time to do better customer service and instill confidence. Thanks for listening -
yesterday i went in for my last pre op battery of tests. Esophogeal manometry went horrible. I vomitted continuously till I was spitting up blood 4 x. The surgeon was frustrated and said "I won't do it without the manometry". As I sat that in pain, crying, I thought, "why am I doing this?" What if something goes wrong? How can I be so pathetic? I have 2 small children and have always been overweight but 8 years ago my weight ballooned when unbeknowsted to me and the medical community i developed a hormone secreting brain tumor. I survived that but have been unable to take off anymore weight 320/268/180. I am so afraid that i will end up worse off. I have horrible luck and so far everything has been difficult or "srewed up" in this process. My EKg came back abnormal, then It was the machine was falting. the manometry as above, My Dr- Dr horgan, left UIC with no warning so know it is another doc Dr Ayloo.....one thing after another. I feel cursed. What do I do? I want the surgery, I want to loose this weight but am I taking to high of a risk? I haven't slept well in 2 days...:think

Well, I have decided to cancel my surgery for now. I will wait until Dr Galvanni is accredited. I felt comfortable with him and it should just be a few months. Thanks Natalie

I am starting my pre op fast. I am excited, does anyone think it is too much to cheat and take my left over not expired Meridia? Going to eat alot of broth, Gazpacho, SF Jello, Protein shakes. I bought Sdurce of Life Energy drink, has all Vitamins ans minerals and 15 grams of protein per scoop. What should I stock up on? My surgery is 17th. i bought source of life, myoplex, and whey in vanilla and plain, sf jello, not a popsicle fan..(maybe when i am starving) I am determined to make this work. I am in customer service..Is it unreasonable to go back to work 4 days after surgery? Any tidbits of wisdom?:help:

Those are vitamins that come from foods instead of from a lab. The closer to nature the better absorption and easier on thr gut.
-
yes, better when they are whole food vitamins. expensive but worth it.
-
I am starting my 2 weeks of liquids prior to surgery to shrink my liver. I just made gazpacho from veggies from my garden and put it through a strainer. No carbs, no calories, tastes good. I also am doing sf jello. I made my own chx broth boiling chicken carrots and celery salt and pepper. Just think of how good it will feel to run after your kids and not get winded....

Just met with Dr Ayloo at uic today. She was great, the support staff ie reception and aides ect were horrible. I just keep telling myself," I want a great pair of hands". On for Aug 17th, Start my 2 week fast (Can i do that?!) I know this is going to be hard, but it is going to be so worth it when I can 1. Wear jeans 2. go up stairs without being breathless 3. Keep up with my kids 4. Feel sexy again 5. so many more.... Any help on getting through the fasting stage?

Hi everyone I am having surgery on the 17th of aug and am so excited. I have been watching your progress and cannot wait to report good news. I am very nervous but look forward to running, crossing my legs and wearing jeans again. Not to mention keep up with my kids. Any advise? I have to do liquids for 10 days and then clears for 2 weeks. Everyone seems to have a different protocol.... Anyway thanks for listening
