    Gas pain

Band75- I hope all went well with you, it sounds like you may be very dehydrated. I too have a lot of gas problems, my left shoulder I swear if I could just saw this SOB off I would and with no anesthesia, I have done Ice and Heat no luck, it really hurts the most when I breath in and when I first wake up. I have been using phazyme and Gas X strips but this is the pits. Now I have this grapefruit size ball under my port sight to above it, I called my Surgeon and he said not to worry about it is very common, now if I notice any color change under the skin and so on to give the office a call then. I still have all six of my stirrie strips on but no extra pain or discoloration. so I guess I am good but keeping an eye on it. but it has only been five days since major surgery and I need to keep that in my mind.

    Update

I am glad to hear you are feeling better. good luck with your dr. appt.
  3. Today is a okay now five full days out, I don't know if I had a fill during the surgery but I am having a hard time taking my pills like I have to wait a half hour between each pill instead of taking them like I usually do. Still haven't gotten the hang of measuring out how much I am really drinking, I am still on full liquids and haven't cheated yet haven't really had the urge, which is good for me. I had family over all day yesterday and it is funny to see how their lives are consumed by food, I had to leave the room a few times not because I was craving the food but just because for the first time I saw something that was one of my problems with food, I see everyone else having fun with it so I have to have it too... even if I am not hungry hmmm... I got on the scale today and OMG i lost 10lbs since my last weigh in on July 27th at the Drs. office. I didn't log it yet because I know this is not the time for weight loss but healing but wow... I have felt my body temp increase especially at night I am sweating in my sleep and I remember hubby doing that after he had his gastric bypass, and that was when his weight started to melt away, I personally would be happy to not have my thighs rubbing anymore. LOL:wink: New symptom- noticed a little ball near my port sight under the skin rather hard feeling, and I know I had a seroma when I had my abdominal hernia repair, so I am woundering if that is what this is, doesn't hurt just annoying. I plan to call the surgeon to check in anyway.
  4. I don't feel too bad, no real appetite and I only use the pain medication twice a day now. still trying to get the gas out of my system. Good luck with you

  5. I was banded on the 5th, and I am still having some shoulder gas pain, other than that my port site is a little sore, but not as bad as my shoulder, however the pain is starting to migrate finally. I am still on Clear Liquids but not too hungry just trying balance getting enough fluids in me with the amount of protien needed a day, I haven't been out of the house yet and I am getting Stur crazy... my children have been really helpful in that. I finally have some company today which is good, and a new baby nephew to spoil:wink: I havn't touched the scale yet, not sure what it would read, I still feel swollen. and gassy

    I' feeling bandy!

that is great I am glad to hear all went well for you.
  7. I was not placed on a pre-op diet but was told not to gain any weight and eat light 24 hours proir so that helped/
  8. Just do your research about low carb cream, I know heavy whippping cream is low carb and works with a lot of the cream soups and they work out beacause you dont' have to use so much. a good place to look is the atkins or South beach cookbook, you can get them free from the library.

    A little bit embarssaing

That is too funny, now my hubby has been lementing over the fact my butt won't be as big anymore, but I keep telling him it is not going anywhere, I had a big booty when I skinny it is not going down... it is too funny to hear when he is ready for the deed... he gave me two weeks:lol: yea we shall see...
  11. Hey we were banded the same day, I was told I can go to full liquids right away but I couldn't manage it till today, Jello is considered clear liquids, so I can have as much as I like but I can only tolerate a little at a time. I made my own broths and soups some clear some with cream. you can also purchase those campbells microwaveable soup that is 70 calories and very soupy, they come in all kinds of flavors, I can't tolerate yougurt even though it is on my list of acceptable foods, yesterday is the first day I started trying to get my protien in but I am not hungry yet and my stoma is really small from the sugery swelling I can only take a few sips of a soup spoon. so far still not too hungry just gassy, I cannot wait for this stuff to get out of my system...
  12. Hubby just bought me some Luigi sugar free cherry Italian Ice sweetened with splenda, really good... I just blended my homemade version of potato cream soup and it was good, it may help with your tummy too...

    Banded 3 August 2009

Hmarko - I would have someone there to help you at least the first two days, even though I was able to go home the same day I decided to stay overnight and it was the best thing for me, taking a taxi home isn't bad but keep a pillow with you to hold your belly in place especially for the bumpy roads over there... Gas is the worst part of this I was banded 8/5 today so far no pain meds just one dose of liquid tylenol for a headache. walking really does help.

    Blood Pressure

that is great, I was told to Discontinue my blood pressure medicine as part of my post-op instructions maybe that was why.... I am happy to be off of them, now waiting on the cholesterol count to go down...
  15. I prefer cream of potato, the carbs count is a little different than something like rice, put it in the blender

    TOM: ? for Ladies (WTMI)

OMG, I started mine yesterday and was banded on the 5th, I wasn't due for another week and a half. of course hubby is like yes... I knew I wasn't getting any in at least two weeks any way, I have not had this happen with my other surgeries, but I was told to expect it... so now cramps and shoulder pain lovely...

Found a real good soup to et me through

I too am on full iquids not just clear, but I have put off my split pea soup for mushie stage I just like it with a little more texture, however, I have perfected the Zuppa Tuscana soup from the Olive Garden and Made myself a strained broth from that it is to die for... I used three large potato's cut up very thin in a pot to boil down twice mix it up with a potato masher, a little bit of parmesean cheese, pepper, ground sausage (johnsonville) and fresh spinach, chopped up really good, put it all together in a pot after cooking the sausage and crumbled it up really good, then boil it down really good add heavy whipping cream (low carb) and water bring to a boil season to taste, strain it off and oh my goodness so good.... sip slowly, is all I have been told but man it is so good...
  18. All I can tell you is keep coughing as much as you can, my nurse at the hospital told me that my temp started going up a little and that is a sign that I am not coughing enough so now I make myself cough as well as use the incentive spirometer I know it hurts but you have to keep doing it... you don't want pnemonia on top of healing from this surgery... I just held a pillow to my belly and cough, today I used an ice pack and the pillow and that helped me alot.

    How long does procedure take?

Mine was an hour and half due to a hiatal hernia repair and removal of adhesions from a previous belly hernia repair.

    Gas!

I am so with you about the gas, I have been able to get rid of it somewhat by using ice packs on my belly and holding a pillow to cough but getting up to walk around the room has helped too... I cannot wait till this gas is out of my system, I seem to fart better than I can burp if that makes sense... LOL my shoulder is still hurting a lot from the gas the only thing that helps are ice packs and pain medication

    Hey kids..... Momma's home!!!

that is great news, I would have been able to go home right away too, but the doctor said with the HH repair I may want to stay overnight just to get the good drugs... I didn't get the liquid Vicodin... but some good little pills that work pretty good for me. I am still in the recliner, but I go in and out, walking helps with the gas... I wish I had glue just tape and six little holes, not too sore around the port site either...

    Was banded on August 4th!!

For the coughing I found that it really helps me move the gas out of my chest, I still have the left shoulder pain, but the liquid tylenol is helping with that. I have been able to walk without too many problems, but I found that if I hold a pillow to my stomach to cough, and walk around it helps a lot. Today is the first day I had a protien shake. not too bad. I am just happy no real nausea, I pray that continues

    Was banded on August 4th!!

I was banded yesterday 8/5 the worst pain is in my left shoulder otherwise I feel like I did a thousand sit ups, but up and able to walk around pretty good, I stay on top of my pain meds so that it doesn't get to me, I also had a HH repaired at the same time but I am using my incentive spirometer every 15 minutes and doing okay with it.
