    Is the lap band healthy?

Marmalela: Please go to www.or-live.com and you can watch both surgeries take place and I would make a decision on this. You can see the differerences in risk and the differences in what it does to your body during surgery. I highly suggest taking this step. It is a real eye opener. Good luck with your decision!! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My doctors office says that after the liquid and mushy food stages you should be on real food. No more protein shakes. They say to eat a 3 oz can of tuna and some veggies for lunch and make sure you are having 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. I am thinking you might not be getting enough calories. They gave me a range from 800-1100 calories a day. And our ARNP at the office says that you should only weigh yourself on a set day every week. There is no point in setting yourself up for disappointment. She says that that is the way the scales work, some days are different than others. She said 7 days is the perfect time. No more and no less. They want me eating 50 grams of protein a day!! I am not sure how that is going to go when I get to the real food stage, but we will see. I hope this helps.

You know, I was thinking. Do you have Type 2 Diabetes? I have that and I don't urinate nearly as much as I was. I was getting up in the middle of the night and everything. I would feel the urge to go as soon as I got up. I am now not going as often. I am feeling the urge every once in a while, but definately not as much as before. I have been off my meds for 3 weeks now! I can't believe how much overeating had a role in my diabetes, really it is pretty sad. About your port. I might have pulled or ripped a stitch on my port at work on Tuesday. I was having stabbing pains in the area. I am still having them when bending over or sitting up from a lying down position. I was told to baby myself for another couple of days and go back on Monday. :faint: I am telling you, if I didn't have the leave I would have been to work!! I am tired of being at home. I know that my husband would have been mad if I didn't take that advice though. LOL Well, good luck to you today!! I pray that it isn't anything too horrible. Erin
  4. I went online last night and calculated my new BMI after losing 20 pounds all together. One week after surgery is 4 pounds of that and 16 is pre-op. My BMI was 56.8 and is now down to 53.4!! I am so happy!! :clap2:

I am in my first week and I have lost 4 pounds, but I know better than to weigh myself before the 7 days are up. I did before surgery and thought I had only lost 10 pounds because I weighed on Monday and when I went in on surgery day I had lost another 6 pounds, that was a Wednesday. I guessI could have been heavier than Monday. I was on Medifast for 2 weeks w/o anything to eat before hand. I was on them for 2 weeks before that, but I got one meal a day. So, basically by next Wednesday I have been on liquids for 6 weeks. I am telling you my self control is starting to SCREAM! :help: LOL :faint: I am going to hit the ground and go into mushies early!! I am staying strong right now, but I tell you, this is hard!!!
  6. Wow, what a great weight loss! I am proud of you and you should be proud of yourself. Don't worry about how heavy you are compared to other people. You are doing what you need to do for you!! :clap2:

I work in a clinic and all of the bending and stooping yesterday and just grabbing charts I injured myself. I called and the nurse told me I either pulled a stitch or popped a stitch on my port. I don't know if this will change your mind. I have my post-op today and I don't think I will go back until Monday. I am going to be asking my doc for a note for specific light duty. Good luck to you Steph.:bandit Erin

I did my first good walk on Saturday. We took off and when I went back and clocked it, we walked 1.3 miles. I couldn't believe I had made it that far. I figured 2, MAYBE 3 blocks and I would turn around. We weren't even ready to come back, we just made a big circle. My girls are really excited to go out and walk with me too. I am having fun with it.

They said to take my Lortab elixir and come in for my post-op tomorrow. There isn't anything they can do except make sure that I am not doing anything strenuous. I just took some Lortab and I am starting to feel the pain melt away. I am happy for that.

The reason that you have to eat liquids is so that your stomach doesn't move around too much and pop your stitches holding the band in place. My doctor says that this is a critical healing time and the less your stomach moves, the better. I hope you reconsider. I have been on a liquid diet since about 3-4 weeks before surgery. For the first 2 I got 1 meal and for the next I didn't get anything but my Medifast drinks. I have to admit that it is hard, but in the long run teaches you some self control. :speechles

Well, I had my surgery on 9-20-06. I was feeling wonderful. I went back to work yesterday and then again today. I was left by myself for over two hours by 2 very inconsiderate employees and had to bend down and grab charts and things. I was told not to carry more than a gallon of milk. I called the doc's office and they said I either pulled a stitch or ripped a stitch on my port. I am so frustrated. I don't cry over pain. In the time after surgery I only took my Lortab once. I am having to take it today. I cried in front of a waiting room full of patients. I don't recommend overdoing to anybody. I think I am taking the rest of the week off work. I am going to enjoy my recovery time. Take care all.

Hi all!! I am so excited to be doing this. I am on Medifast drinks for my 2 weeks of liquids and I am so tired of tasting the sweetness. I was never big on the sweets, it was the salt. This is killing me. Tonight I came home and made some cream of chicken and mushroom soup. That hit the spot!!! I am trying to do the whole self control thing, but coming out of Walmart and smelling McDonald's, WOW!!! I thought I was going to die!! LOL, I don't prefer Mcdonald's, but it sure smelt good. My sister and I were drooling, but knew that it was for the best that neither of us did anything. She has been dieting with me and she is a real good support. Good Luck to all of the bandsters of the week. My prayers are with you. Erin

Even on the liquids I am having fun playing around with different creamed soups. Last night I took some cream of potato soup and added a can of diced chicken and blended it. It kind of tasted like chicken pot pie. I love to experiment with different recipes. I am just 4 days out of surgery now and I feel wonderful, but I do have a little infection in my port incision. I called the doc and he called in some antibiotics for me. I will see him again on Wednesday. Banded:9-20-06-NWWLS Dr. Robert Michaelson 315/315/150

LOL, I just can't believe how frustrating it is. Now, let's hope when I do my post-op on Wednesday I can change it without all of this.

I am really getting frustrated with this whole ticker issue. I keep getting invalid URL or Invalid file. I don't know what to do. Can anybody help?

I was banded on 9-20-06 also. I had a sore throat from the tube. The tube may have scraped a little on your throat when they removed it. Mine is gone now. I hope this subsides for you. Good Luck!

Still can't figure this ticker thing out. Is it showing up on your side or just showing up as a URL?
