Favorite fast food items
Humming Bird replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can usually only eat 1/2 of a small wendy's chili, unless it is really runny that day. It is a good source of protein. I go to Wendy's at least once a week. In fact, that is what I had for lunch today. I can not eat baked potatoes, rice, chicken tenders, burritos, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, chips.......... The only thing I can stand from McDonalds is coffee, but have not tried the yogurt there yet. On my lunch break when I don't pack something, I have been going to the grocery store deli where they have hot soup. -
Lost Band Doc Forgot to Remove Port
Humming Bird replied to kareyquilts's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Please let us know what you find out. I do not understand why they would leave an object in your body that serves no purpose. unless they simply forgot to remove it........ -
Where does your goal put you
Humming Bird replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
greytz, at 5'8" a size 12 looks very good. Everyone carries weight differently, so I can only go by what people I actually know look like. My mother looked very good, and trim at 5'8" and size 12. -
Restriction with slider foods.....
Humming Bird replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are in a good place with your restriction. This is where the "tool" and the "rules" come in. You have to have the willpower to choose the right foods and stay away from high cal. sliders. You have to eat the solid stuff very slow and chew it very well and learn to stop eating before the pain begins. I choose to keep my band tighter than yours sounds. I have restriction with foods that others consider sliders. For example, I can eat a yogurt and stay full for hours. I simply can not eat most meats, bread, rice, potatoes, tamale pie ....... -
Where does your goal put you
Humming Bird replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had not thought about it this way, but it does make sense. Hmmm, something I personally need to keep in mind. -

Ditto ... I agree with every word of this. -
NSAIDS one time will not hurt anyone unless they are allergic. In an emergency where you are "not conscious or coherent" what NSAID are they going to give you that would cause harm?

Where does your goal put you
Humming Bird replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not know what your bone structure is or your body type, so I can only compare you to myself. I am 5'7". , 45 years old, fairly small wrists and feet, hourglass shape. I have been very thin (130#) and very fat (264#), but I know I felt very good at 145-150 lbs. (that is in the normal BMI range) At 5'6" I think you would not look gaunt between 135-145. -
Do you believe in a god or gods?
Humming Bird replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I do believe, but I do not push my beliefs on other people. I do not insist they must believe. I think going to church during my childhood was a very good thing in so many ways. I think the christians in my family and in my life have been very good for me. That being said, I think it is wrong to be too forceful with religion on others. -
Welcome To LBT both of you! Good luck on your journey. Stick around and you will get much info and support from this site.

Gaining Support
Humming Bird replied to jaycockerel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The more informed friends and family are, the more supportive they will be. Explain how the band works. If you have a BMI that is over 35 the surgery is considered necessary. Explain how important support is to you. They will come around. -
I do not have band slippage, but wanted to respond about your original surgeon. When you have such a severe problem and he does not take care of it ASAP it is called supervised neglect and it is illegal.

Pre-op diet concern
Humming Bird replied to LomoMandy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your pre-op diet is much like mine. I was to do Atkins for 2 weeks. I am sure you will be fine with as many protein shakes as you want as long as they are very low carb. The amount of meat will also not make a difference. The reasoning behind this type of pre-op diet is to shrink the liver. A liver that is overloaded with carbs becomes very thick and is hard to retract during surgery. A thick liver is different than a fatty liver. -
Good advise from lellow. Babe, you may be at your sweet spot. It may even take a week of liquid, then soft. Proceed with caution ..... My last fill made me VERY VERY tight for a good 2 weeks.

Just had to put it out there
Humming Bird replied to Stacy1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES ! It can be done! 50 lbs in 5 months! Stay motivated and you may just hit that goal plus a few bonus pounds! You also have youth on your side. Keep us posted. -
Yogurt is not a slider food for me. This just shows the difference in tightness for us all. Your "sweet spot" is very much a personal choice in some ways. Many would have rushed in for an unfil if they were as tight as I am.
-
You posted in "April 09 Bandsters" forum. Many will assume you only want a reply from those who were banded in April 09. Many others will just pass it by in a specific forum. Some may just read it, but not reply. I was banded in July 09. I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble. I too have trouble eating some of the things other bandsters eat. The big push is protein .... my Dr. also stresses this, but I have so much trouble with meat. I do have to suppliment my protein with shakes and such. Are you sure you are not at your sweet spot? Give us more detail .... how much have you lost? How much can you eat for a "meal"? Are you hungry between meals?

It sounds like that first place was not getting the fluid in your port at all. Did you or your surgeon give them feedback about how bad they are doing with fills? My surgeon has done both of my fills with no numbing and with only one stick. It's a bummer that you had to go through all that, but I'm glad it sounds like things will be better for you now. Maybe I misunderstood ...... you had WLS and only had 40lbs to take off?

Veteran Banders - Please help me determine restriction or stuck
Humming Bird replied to curiousinoh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can not eat eggs either. I've had trouble with most types of meat since my last fill in Sept. The past 2 weeks I have had a little fish. I get my protein from other sources like yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, shakes, bullets, shots .....Starbucks nutrition info lists amount of protein in their stuff ... I choose "skinny" (non-fat). In the morning my band is too tight to eat any sort of food for a few hours. On workdays I drink a Protein shake for breakfast on the drive to work. On my days off I may eat some oatmeal, yogurt or cream of wheat after I've been awake for a few hours. I think it is cream of wheat that now has one with added protein .... reading lables in the store. -
Do you know what you really look like?
Humming Bird replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure how other people see me. I'm not sure if how I see myself is accruate. How would I know? It's what I see. I know I do not like pictures of myself, but they do match up with what I see in the mirror. -
Can anyone help, cause my surgeon is a jerk!
Humming Bird replied to GGQ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't help you with the stomach issues. I have no idea why you are feeling that way. Your surgeon is the expert in that area. What I may be able to help you with is how to deal with the " negative rude and unpersonable man." It is at least worth a try. I deal with many many different types of people with the type of work I do and this really helps. All you have to do is act like he is the most wonderful person you have ever met. Always smile and be so cheerful it makes other people sick! Be too cheerful! The sun is always shining on you and there is a bluebird on your shoulder at all times! Usually people stop being so rude and negative with you. Believe me, it works and is much easier than dealing with negative attitudes. Kill them with kindness. -
The myth of exercise and weight loss
Humming Bird replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with you Elfie. Exercise is my downfall and I admit I should be doing more of it. That being said, look at the weight I have dropped with almost no exercise. I'm not telling anyone to do it without exercise, but I agree with what you said. -
:seeya:Welcome to LBT ! It sounds like you are on your way! This forum is a great source for info and support. Glad to have you join in on the LAP-BAND® journey!

Whats happening ?
Humming Bird replied to mizofatso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Potato chips and corn chips are no longer a slider for me. I'm too tight for them to be a slider. No matter how much I chew them up they cause pain. I think sometimes it is a texture thing too. Anything that will melt like icecream or chocolate is for sure a slider. I do not avoid all sliders or I would suffer from malnutrition or starvation. My band is pretty tight and even tighter in the mornings. Some foods that may be considered sliders are on my regular menu......yogurt, cream of wheat, soup ...... I just try to stay away from the high cal. ones like icecream.
