  1. I don't know how your Dr. does it, but mine gave me the Rx for meds I would need when I went to my Pre-op appointment. That way I could go ahead and get them filled and not worry about stopping by a pharmacy after surgery. I'm glad you will have some help with the little ones. You will be fine. Don't get too worked up and worried about it. It sounds like you will be ready.

    Self Pay Costs???

Sorry, not in NJ ............ Dr. K in Denver has many out of state patients .... $9,950 www.lapbandrockies.com
  3. You only have 20 more pounds to goal? I would keep that in mind and the fact that weightloss will be slower toward the end of your weightloss phase. I would keep the appointment so you can talk with your doc about everything. You don't have to get a fill or an unfill, just maybe check in and make sure you and the doc are on the same page. I do have days when I can not eat much at all. If I've been stuck or had an issue like that I usually have to go with liquids or something like yogurt for the rest of the day or the day after. I think it is pretty normal to be tight in the mornings. I usually drink a protein shake for breakfast.
  4. A one yr old and a 3 yr old ....... that is a full-time job plus overtime some days! Do you have a family member that can help you out a bit for a couple days? The anti-nausea patch is pretty standard with any type of surgery where they use general anesthesia. They put it behind your ear while you are at the hosp. and tell you to just leave it there a couple days.
  5. Wow, a tummy tuck as part of the deal? ....sounds good to me. I am glad the Doc answered your questions to ease your mind. I stick with the 3 meal a day plan. I think Elfie kinda does the 6 mini-meal thing and she will be a good resource for you on that one when she gets back (incase she is gone helping her friend).
  6. I am glad you talked with the Doc. I wouldn't consider it "confronting" him because it doesn't really sound like a confrontation to me. It just sounds like you had open communication. I hope the little unfill helps and I wish you continued success ! You are over halfway there!

    Hiatal Hernia

I had a hiatial hernia repaired during my lapband surgery. I was told that about 33% of patients getting lapband have hernia repair too. It should not be a problem.

    forget calories?

I agree with your NUT. I have lost 80 pounds in about 8 1/2 months and do not count anything. The band keeps me well below 1000 calories a day, so it is really a waste of time to write them down and count them. Like the above poster I try to keep my protein up, but do fall short on that sometimes. The band works for me without all the tracking and counting.
  9. Elfie, so sorry to hear about your friend. He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. Bob, How are you?

    Life is good today....

WOW, you are doing so great! Thanks for sharing.
  11. I had hiatal hernia repair and lapband. My surgery was at 1:00pm and I was outta there at 4:30pm. I did not have much post-op pain. I stopped taking the pain meds they gave me the morning after surgery. However, the general anesthesia gives me trouble. No matter how much anti nausea meds they give me, I still get post-op nausea. I also had a migraine for 4 days post-op that I believe was from the general anes. It really helped me to keep an ice pack on my stomach even longer than they told me to so the swelling would not get too bad and go away faster. As far as recovery in general, I was probably slower than most. I am glad I took off a full week plus 2 weekends from work. It seems like I felt weak forever. A shower would wear me out. I did have the dreaded left shoulder refered phrenic nerve pain for months. We are all so different. You won't really know how it will be for you until you do it.
  12. I went straight to the lapband surgeon for a consult and had the surgery a couple weeks after that. I was self-pay and did not require any pre-op testing or "hoop jumping". Everyone is so different when it comes to the choice of getting banded. Some people feel better researching for months or even years. Some feel better talking to many Dr.s and going to several seminars and support meetings. If you plan on using insurance you have to do the steps required by them.
  13. Well, you still have your band, so why not just start over at square one? Go get a fill Do a few days of liquids Then a few days of mushies Drink lots of water Get back to band basics
  14. I had to call in sick today. This head cold is really kicking my ass and I don't want to spread it around. I don't have any benifits including sick leave, so it hurts my bank account too ...... bummer. We are expecting more snow this afternoon. They are saying my area will get 12" - 24" ! I hope to work tomorrow, but the snow may stop that. I guess I'll just hunker down with my box of kleenex and cold medicine.

    Freedom Fighters Weekly Weigh In

I have lost 80 pounds!
  16. Denise, your trip sounds great. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Somehow I managed to get a really bad cold. I feel like crap. How many times of blowing your nose does it take to lose a pound? I hope it doesn't last long. Oh yea. I've lost 80 pounds!

    Health Care

Maybe some of you who are more educated about this stuff can clear up some stuff for me. I have not had health insurance since early 2006 and I was self-pay for my lapband. My husband is employed full-time with no benefits and I have 3 part-time jobs with no benefits. Will it be years before we see results (good or bad) of this stuff? Will it be good/bad for people depending on their income? Should I start shopping now for private healthcare insurance? Should I wait to see if this bill will help me out? Is that just wishful thinking? With all my bills and paying financed surgery I really can not afford insurance right now. Will they fine me? How do they even know I do not have insurance? I have been turned down for insurance in the past because of my weight. Now that they can't turn people down for pre-existing conditions, will they just charge me more?

    New Band, Advice please.

Slimboy, I hope things start getting better for you soon. Four weeks of liquids just seems like too long. You are right about the patient education and support. I hope you start getting the support you need from your doctors. You will also find much support here at LBT and you don't have to meet us all in a support group to get it. Best wishes on your journey.

    I cheated :((((

I am sure you will be fine, just stay away from the pastries now  Get back with the pre-op program and don't look back.

    so far to go....

You are doing great! Yes, it is a long road to goal, but you are well on your way! Goal just seems so far away so I have tried to set little mini-goals along the way. One of the things that has helped me the most is setting out the next item of clothing I will be able to wear. I have saved clothing over the years in hopes I would take off weight and get back into the stuff. I went through my closet and tried to organize it by size. I sometimes try things on to see if they fit. I will bring to the front of the closet the pair of jeans or whatever that is just a little too tight to zip comfortably or too tight to wear in public. I try them on about once a week and before I know it, they fit! It is just so much better than looking ahead to that final goal weight.

    Water, water everywhere.......

I don't measure anything really. I don't drink enough plain Water. I do drink quite a lot of iced tea (brewed/tea bag) with sweet n low. I would watch it with lime or lemon added to your water. The acid can rapidly erode the enamel on your teeth.
  22. They don't have to tell you all the details about why the Dr. is no longer there, but it would have been more professional of them to send out a little courtesy letter.
  23. Humming Bird

    Now they tell me....

I think the thinning hair has much to do with what type of hair you have too. Post-op, between the 4-8 month time frame I lost 30-40% of my hair. (thank goodness it is growing back now) I tried everything, and I do mean everything, but nothing helped. I have baby fine straight hair and think that has something to do with how easily it is lost. As far as the beef/steak thing, It is very hard for me to eat such solid/dense meats. I was warned pre-op that bansters have trouble tolerating steak/roast/pork chops.........
  24. It sounds like some of you are getting the bad weather That was here Fri. It's really nice here today and the snow is melting. Great NSVs Elfie! All this bra and panty talk is depressing. I went drawer shopping in my bra drawer today and threw away some stuff. I have gone from a 42DD to a 38C +/38D- already  darn it! I didn't like the DDs, but I still have some weight to take off and it would be nice if it came off in the right places!
  25. No, Centennial is a burb of Denver. I do have to drive close to that area for my lapband doc though. ( I think ) I am west (or north west) of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs.
