anniversary -what to eat????
Humming Bird replied to carebear99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a tough one because your surgery is so fresh. Put some fancy yogurt in a long stem glass ..... sorry, I couldn't eat much at 8 days. Have fun in a non-food way. -
How well does your husbands adjust to you weight loss?
Humming Bird replied to talkalot1981's topic in The Gals' Room
Many years ago, when I was young and thin, my husband told me he liked it when other guys checked me out. It made him feel like he had something special. It was like, "yea guys, look all you want, but that chick is all mine!" It's all in the attitude and how the guys think about it. Just make sure he knows you have no intention of finding someone new. Encourage him to be happy he has a more attractive wife all to himself! -
Healthy foods that go down a tight band?
Humming Bird replied to amlus's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Chili ........think protein. If you are too tight to eat a little chili you are too tight. -
What do you drink instead of coke?
Humming Bird replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Iced tea (made with lipton tea bags) and sweet n low. -
Banded 7-9-09. I really need to have my arms done, but the scars from that one really freak me out. I have not had insurance for several years, so the cost freaks me out too. Good luck with your PS!

Hi Melody! Did you get another little dog? How are you? -

Humming Bird replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Denise, I'm so sorry you went through all that and still lost the tooth. These things happen to the best of us. If I had to pick a tooth to lose it would be #2 or #15 . These are the 2 farthest back molars on the top (excluding the wisdom teeth) and will be missed the least. If it were the molar in front of that one you would really miss it and maybe lean toward the implant more. -
I was in need of some encouragement this morning.

Denise, I hope you are feeling ok tonight and all went well at the periodontist. Dotti, Hi ! Glad to hear from you! Stacie, If you are going to try for a baby again you better get going on it. I can't tell you what to do on that one. Have you ever thought about going to Dental Hygiene school? Hi to all in the thread. I managed to drop 2 pounds after a couple months of zero, so I'm happy about that. I guess I could say I'm at a comfy place with my band. I am getting hungry too soon after I eat, but don't have the feeling I need to go get a fill. The weight is staying off for once in my life and only 12 more pounds to go! -

Scared...Surgeon wont call back
Humming Bird replied to Tally23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the messages you leave are you telling them you have a fever or suspect an abcess or are having an emergency? If so, they should have called you back and told you to come in right away. This sounds like something I would not let go. It is not good to let an infection fester. You could just show up at the office because they would not return your calls. -
Pain meds after surgery
Humming Bird replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They gave me liquid vicodin. I forgot I hate vicodin. It makes me feel sick and gives me a headache. I took it the first night after surgery and didn't take any more. I would say the pain wasn't too bad at all. Maybe a 4 ? -
We have to accept that not everyone gets banded or has other WLS to get healthy or prolong life.

What Exactly IS PBing?
Humming Bird replied to FinsUP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think many people here use the term PB too often and in the wrong way. For me, PB is more like acid reflux. You have air/burp kinda stuck. When you do burp you can feel like something came up with the air, but it goes back down. If anything, including slime, reaches your stomach and then comes up enough to end up in the toilet or trash can, it is throwing up. There is no nice new term to change it from what it really is. It is a bad thing and can do damage to the esophagus, the stomach/band placement, and to your teeth. -
90% restricted, not losing weight--anyone else?
Humming Bird replied to rbadar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe the tube that goes from the port to the band also holds 2cc. -
90% restricted, not losing weight--anyone else?
Humming Bird replied to rbadar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not so sure you have that much in your band. I have heard of several bandsters where the port was missed and the saline never even made it in the band. Do they actually take out all the Fluid from your band to check the amount before they put more in? It sure is something to think about. -
Why did you choose the band over bypass?
Humming Bird replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose the lapband for all the reasons everyone else mentioned. As for the saggy skin, IMHO I would have the same amount of saggy skin no matter what type of WLS I had. I am a 162 lb woman wearing the skin of a 264 lb woman. There is no getting away from it with such a large weight difference. You can not tone up your skin. You can tone the muscle under the skin, but the skin it's self will still be hanging there. I eat "normal food", but do avoid some things because I know I will get sick if I eat them. eggs just don't work for me, so I no longer even try to eat them. Some bandsters eat eggs all the time with no problems. You don't know if you will be sensitive to some foods until you get banded. I took off a full week from work. If there is any way you can plan to take off 2 weeks it would be great. The reason I say 2 weeks is because of the fatigue you will feel post op not the actual recovery or pain issues. I wish you the best no matter which WLS you choose. -
Someone told me that the 4cc bands are outdated and no longer used in the US. I think Mexico is the only country that uses them. The makers of lapband only make 10cc & 14cc bands. Realize might be making some 4cc. I have not heard much about those.

Do I need to be unfilled a little?
Humming Bird replied to jllybean1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
IMHO you are not too tight. If you can eat a cup of other types of food and only have trouble when you eat bread and meat, you are not too tight. Those are at the top of the list for being common banster trouble foods. I have had trouble with bread and meat all along. When I crave bread I eat a few reduced fat wheat thins. I eat quite a bit of chili for meat/protein. Try some very soft fish like scallops or crab. -
size ? How many have you gone down?
Humming Bird replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After a 100 pound loss Before= size 24 tall jeans After = size 12 tall jeans scrubs before = 2X (tight) after = M (baggy) No saggy tummy for me, but my arms are VERY BAD. The skin hanging under my arms looks like the skin of a 100 year old. We are all built so differently. -

Denise, I'm glad to hear they can save your tooth with the bone grafting. I'm sorry it costs so much. Any time you go to a specialist it's cha-ching. When you open the door to enter their office it makes a cash register sound. -

Betsy, I'm sorry to hear you are going through such a rough time. You have the best attitude about it that anyone could have. I have an e-mail that I have saved over the years for just this type of situation. I'll find it and paste it here. I always love hearing what you say here, so keep on posting when you feel like it. Mountain Stream Picture yourself near a stream. Birds are softly chirping in the crisp cool mountain air. Nothing can bother you here. You are in total seclusion from that place called "the world". The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity. The water is clear. You can easily make out the face of the person whose head you're holding under the water. Look. It's the person who caused you all this stress in the first place. What a pleasant surprise. You let them up... just for a quick breath... then plop!....back under they go... You allow yourself as many deep breaths as you want. There now.....feeling better? -
Well said Betsy! I agree! :cursing:

Why cant I burp???
Humming Bird replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The burping does get much easier with time. There will be a point when you can burp like normal again. The shoulder pain may last awhile depending the cause. If it is gas, it will be gone very soon. If it is pressure on the phrenic nerve it may take months to go away.
