    Bad Breath

There is a chance it is being caused by Ketosis. Many bandsters experience this early on. It does go away. Just follow the rules and your body will adjust.
  2. T.G.I.F. ! I'm just maintaining my weight right now. As long as I can keep that up through the holidays I'll be happy. I have to spend much of the weekend cleaning house for Thanksgiving and I started a sorta large quilt for a beginner. If I stay busy I don't want to graze as much. I keep having scenes from the movie "Mouse Hunt" flashing through my mind. I still only caught the one mouse, but today was a little freaked out when I looked out on my front porch for a package I'm expecting. I have 2 very large empty planters on either side of my front door. There was an animal poop near one of them (maybe cat or fox size). Then I looked in the planters to see if my package was in there. There were 3 dead mice in the one by the poop! The planters are too large for the mice to get in there by themselves. EEEWWWW!
  3. Great to see you posting again! Hey, any pound lost is worth gold! It sounds to me like you might be at a sweet spot. I would ride it out just a little while and see how it goes. Those little uncomfortable burpy moments are what I call PBing. The PB most people talk about now is throwing up. You may need to take it very slow and change the list of things you can not tolerate for awhile.
  4. I think it's pretty normal to play around with a couple pounds up and down during the process. In the long run the scale will be more down than up for you. I know the feeling of wanting every pound off right now. My weight goes up and down by a pound or two often. This is the reason I try to focus more on the 105 pounds I've lost instead of the 9 I still need to take off. It's a cup half full vs. cup half empty thing.
  5. My husband and I joke around and have fun with sarcastic stuff often, but none of what has been going on with your situation is funny or light. It sounds hurtful and non-loving.
  6. That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. I agree, but it's the dealing with it that can't be packed up that tidy. It must be very frustrating and I wish I had the magic fix for the OP.
  7. Melody, I think you are right to let them try to resolve the shoulder pain issue with an exploratory look. Maybe the position of the band is wrong. I know how bad that shoulder pain can be and am so thankful mine is gone most of the time. Yours was too constant to live with. I think if the band is too high for you it could throw off the sweet spot thing too.
  8. Great post! I'm with everyone on the mental/head thing, but even that got better over time with me. At first I missed things like pizza, but now I don't really miss that stuff. I was self-pay and I too think the band was the best gift I've given myself. It is a bit discouraging to read all the posts about people having trouble with the band, but this is the place I will come when and if I have any trouble. It is so great to have a place where so many people have the band too! I agree that the proper fill level is so very important. I was so lucky to reach my sweet spot early on with my 2nd fill. I am also very lucky that this has been the easiest weightloss of my life. At this point my biggest fear is having some sort of complication that causes me to have the band removed. Banded life for me is VERY GOOD. I am so happy with the thinner me.

    Curious about others goals...

Here's my 2 cents. If you reach a "normal" BMI, every pound after that is gravy!
  10. I understand not telling very young children, but not telling could cause other problems. As a teen I would have been hurt if my mother had done something so big and not told me. Also, seeing you eat such tiny amounts of food and taking off so much weight may start ideas of eating disorders in teens. I'm not telling anyone what to do and don't know your kids, just some thoughts. I told my son as soon as I knew I was going for a consult, but he is a grown man. I would have told him when he was a teen as well.
  11. I agree. There are so many things that are different with people. As we can all see just from the bandsters on this board everyone reaches their sweet spot at different fill levels. It's interesting how some docs will only put in .5cc at a time while others are so agressive they put in 4-5cc in one fill. I reached my sweet spot with my 2nd fill at 3 months post-op. My fill at surgery was 2.7cc. By my 2nd fill I was at 5.3cc. Other bandsters might be able to eat a hamburger fries and shake at that fill level. I was on the forever mushie diet and so "full" I couldn't eat another bite after a very small amount. I don't see how generalizing about how many fills should be done in a year will work.

Newly Banded : Scared and in pain

I also had hiatial hernia repair. I don't know if it was more painful because I don't have regular lapband surgery to compare it to. Your pain meds should have been in liquid form. I had liquid vicodin. I only took it the first night and then remembered how much I hate vicodin. It gives me the worst headache of my life. I had my husband go get me some liquid tylenol. You can also take a double dose of Jr. strength liquid ibuprophen. You may be almost past the worst part of the pain at this point. They do have adult strength liquid tylenol. Sipping ice cold liquids will help the swelling go down faster. I also found that keeping an ice pack on my stomach longer than they told me to helped quite a bit. Hang in there.
  13. Oh Elfie, I am sorry the band has not worked the way it should with you. I know how much research you did pre-band. I know you have done everything the right way. You have followed the rules so much better than I ever have. I will not put you down. I am happy for you that you have had at least some success and wish you even better success with the sleeve.
  14. Did he offer any help with the shoulder pain?
  15. There is no way I could have cooked the Thanksgiving feast the day after my surgery. Have you ever tried those box dinners you can get from the deli? They are pretty good. You pretty much just have to warm everything up. How are you going to explain not eating the feast? Maybe you came down with the flu? I would just tell them after it is already done and get it over with.
  16. Look at the parts of your post I quoted. Sometimes you need to do things like this for Y O U. Don't wait until you are in your 40s like I did. You have so much life ahead of you. Why live it obese? You may not have insurance that will cover at some other time. As the years pass your chances of other obesity related problems increase. I think your friends and family will come around. Give them time. I think your mom will support you, she just needs to see how well you do post-op. If friends don't support you, they were not the kind of friends you need. Your husband gets extra points and stars and smiley faces for his love and support!

    Hungry?

My first week post-op was clear liquids and I was not hungry. It was very filling to just have a few sips at a time then gradually work my way to creamy liquids. The first couple weeks there is swelling and healing going on and you most likely will not even be able to drink a whole protein shake. It is the weeks after that and before your first fill where the hunger comes in.
  18. All my co-workers know I'm banded, so that helps. I have gone out to lunch with them and I just get a bowl of soup. If you go and they ask if that's all you're eating, just say "yes, I'm not very hungry right now."
  19. One thought that comes to my mind (and I may be way off base here) is there may be some other "issue' going on if he feels the need to read your posts here on LBT. I would think it would get pretty boring at this point. Most of all of our posts here are about working the band, it's a tool, slime, Pbing, getting stuck....... Maybe he thinks you are going to meet someone from the site who is thinner than he is? There is the insecurity?
  20. Christie you look absolutly marvelous! All that talk about boots earlier in the week gave you the urge to go out and strutt your stuff in them? Ahem......5:59 a.m.

    After the surgery....

It was a very slow recovery for me for the fatigue part. A shower would kick my butt and I would have to rest. Each day got better, but the fatigue was much worse than the pain or discomfort.
  22. My post op instructions were ice cold liquids only. Heat will only make the swelling worse. I also found it helpful to keep an ice pack on my belly (high and to the left) longer than they told me. It seems like a slow healing process at first, but does get better. I hope you are doing better soon.
  23. I agree that you will have much of what you buy pre-op will last you a very very long time. One thing that helped me in the liquid phase post-op was drinking Jello. Just make the jello and save a little out before you chill. Sip it slowly. I found the strawberry banana very tasty and soothing.
  24. I am so glad the scale is moving for you!! I had to quote you just to post the snoopy again

    Vitamins

No, the D-3 gummies only have vit. D. Someone told me that most D vits are D-2 and your body has to then turn it into D-3. I just take the D because my surgeon told me it is the most common one patients are lacking. I take the Vitafusion fiber gummies (Target) so I stay regular. They taste great and are a very soft gummie that chew up easy and almost melt in your mouth. If I had insurance I would go get my blood checked to see if I need to take something else. I may have ins. soon through my husband's job...... we'll see.
