Nearly 2 years post lapband; semi failure
Humming Bird replied to TooFat4Ever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you should go back for follow up and get the ball rolling again. When you say your band is full you mean you have 10cc of Fluid in a 10cc band? -
Some questions to other bandsters
Humming Bird replied to tessie29's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I love soup. I could be a soup judge in a cook-off I could tell you where the best soups are at all the restaurants in my nearest 4 towns In my book there is nothing wrong with eating soup. I get in meat and veggies this way. I've had great success with the band and with eating soup. I make my own soup and chili often so I know what is going in the pot. -
I think it's a bit better now that I've used it awhile and they worked out some of the bugs.
-
Sometimes just mixing it up a bit with what you are eating helps. We tend to get in eating patterns where we eat the same stuff almost every day. I found that drinking an extra protein shake for a few days helps. Increase your water intake. Eat something different for a few days. I also think sometimes the body just needs to take a bit of a break and then the pounds start dropping again.

(Self pay/ have no insurance) My fills were free for the first 3 months and then they were $15. He raised the price to $25 now.

I didn't see where she said he asked her out. (because that's not what I got from it)
-
I honestly don't see anything in the original post he said that was so wrong. It's not like he asked if she wanted to have sex. ...... compliments on weightloss is all it sounds like.

Surgery 4-28, Camping 4-29
Humming Bird replied to icinderella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is not wise to go camping the day after surgery. You will not want to leave the house at all so soon after this surgery. You need to find a replacement for the camping trip. This is a much more majory surgery than you are giving it. -
2011 - banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
Humming Bird replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We woke up to about 2 inches of Easter snow today. It melted off and is snowing again. Oh well, we didn't get enough snow this winter and that kinda freaks me out because I live in the forest. Any moisture is welcome. I hope you all had a nice Easter. -
what's with the hernias?
Humming Bird replied to jennifer1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many obese people have hiatial hernias, so that is why you hear it so often. I didn't know for sure if I had one or not before the surgery, but I figured I did because I had bad acid reflux. During my consult with the surgeon he told me if there was one he would just repair it during the lapband surgery (no extra charge). Sure enough, I had one and he gave me an 8 X 10 glossy of it. lol....I would have rather had an 8 X 10 of the band in place. The great thing about the repair is the acid reflux went away. -

too little fill?
Humming Bird replied to Chinasmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doc is different. Every stomach is different. Here are my fills: 7/9/09 at surgery 2.7cc (felt restriction 4 weeks) 8/28/09 1st fill +1.2cc = 3.9cc (restriction 3 wks) 09/25/09 2nd fill +1.4cc = 5.3cc (very tight 15 days...then good restriction) Sweet spot I'm getting a little fill on the 6th because it's time ..... hungry too quick now. -
There is a class action lawsuit against Alli. I can't remember where I heard it .... T.V.? If any of these OTC diet products worked the U.S. would be full of skinny people
-
hmmmm .... I say just look at it in the best light for now .... may just be a harmless compliment. I hope so

Is it all worth it to you??
Humming Bird replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was selfpay and think it was worth every cent. I just made the last payment this month! wooo hooo! Keep in mind that the band works a little differently for everyone and you don't know how things will be until you are already banded. You can get an idea by hearing how it is for other bandsters, but your journey will be unique. My experience has been pretty wonderful. I reached my sweet spot with my 2nd fill. I dropped 100 pounds in the first year with very little effort on my part. I have never counted calories or tracked anything. I do stay mindful of some things like getting Protein. I have not had to work at it. I was wearing size 22/24, now I wear size 10. The only things I experienced that would be considered 'bad' : I did suffer from thinning hair (has grown back now). There are some foods I can not tolerate from day one. (I don't miss them, they don't even sound good now) I had refered phrenic nerve pain in my left shoulder for months. (gone now) Life is good with the band -
sick after lap fill
Humming Bird replied to charlie3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you stick with a day or 2 of liquids after the fill? If not, you may have caused swelling. Can you keep liquids down? -
Yes, if it is still there, go to the dentist. (hygienist here) Dentists look at mouths all day long. People here can not really help. You need someone to look at in the flesh, so to speak. It may have nothing to do with the band or a deficiency ..... It might just be a mucocele (MYOO-koh-seal) , a blocked salivary duct, but I couldn't say without seeing it. Those are no big deal, but can be very tender and annoying.

Go have your dentist look at it.

Stuck for a while
Humming Bird replied to jmunks2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A bad stuck episode can also cause swelling, so you may have to stay away from solids (like meat) for a few days. -

Humming Bird replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
checkin' in ............... not much going on .... SOS (same old shit) ..... trying not to gain weight while I wait for my fill date. It's been nice to have some spring weather here..... a bit of snow , a bit of fog and a bit of rain. -
Tattoos...will they look like deflated shrinky dinks? LOL!
Humming Bird replied to jennifer1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If any of them look bad you can get them lasered off. I had a small tattoo above my left breast and from many years of tanning it got very faded. I even had the ink redone once. I decided I didn't like it anymore and had laser removal. Now you can't even tell where it was. I had the tat for about 20 years. (the cost for laser removal is expensive, they charge per square inch) -
unfill before vacation
Humming Bird replied to jboo518's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen this same question come up many times here at LBT and I do understand why the thought goes through your mind. It's all about living every day as a bandster and learning how to manage and have a good life no matter if you are on a vacation or just living your normal day. Leave your restriction like it is, keep your mind on the fun or relaxing time of the vacation. You will be much happier when you get back home. -
avg. weight loss after the band
Humming Bird replied to Bucky Allen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Men tend to lose faster, just like any other weightloss program. Other things will make a difference as well like your starting weight, how much you exercise, what types of food you eat, how tight your band is, drinking alcohol.......... If you start out at 400 pounds, your weightloss will be faster than someone who has only 70 pounds to take off. I lost 100 pounds in the first year. -
Advice about going out to movies
Humming Bird replied to MarcyLoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I like the places that have coffee. I order a coffee and slowly sip it during the first part of the movie. When the coffee is all gone I can munch on an atkins bar, or have a couple handfulls of someone else's popcorn. I have also taken in sunflower seeds and use the empty coffee cup for the shells.
