5 Weeks 2 Days-vent
Humming Bird replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of Atkins diet. Maybe you could do Atkins for these few weeks. I know when I did it in past years I dropped a lot of weight. The problem was keeping it off, but you will be banded by that time. Just an idea.. -
OMG, purple you say? too funny. thanks for the uplift

Considering Lapband...is It Worth It?
Humming Bird replied to marzee0728's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is the band worth it? For me, yes! I paid $9995 and it was worth every penny. There have been a few tiny bumps in the road along the way, but nothing too bad. I dropped 100 pounds in the first year with very little effort on my part. I went from a size 24 jeans to a size 10 now. I was wearing size 2X scrubs for work and they were very tight. I really needed a 3X. Now I wear size small scrubs! I feel so much better! There are so many things I can do now that the weight is gone ......cut and paint my toenails, get up in my husbands 4x4 without tons of effort and grunting, feel great about how clothes fit ..... So, yes yes yes, it is so worth it! -
I am so lucky/blessed that the band is a perfect fit for what I needed. It has worked so well for me. It has changed my life in the way I needed it to. It was $9995 well spent!

XOXOXO Shirley XOXOXO it's ok, I know exactly how you feel -
That is how it works for me. Insert band, fill it properly, drop over 100 pounds!

I didn't blame her at all. Read my post again. I said if I sprung a leak I would get it replaced. The rest of my post was about YOU!

Nice ....b*****s and morons.... so nice -
If my band sprung a leak I would get another band in a heartbeat. There is no question about it. Some people will work against the band and any other WLS. It's part of the disease. Success will be hard to find for those people no matter which surgery they choose.

Now That You Have Had The Surgury, What Negatives Have You Experienced Thus Far?
Humming Bird replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds to me like your brother has a bleeding ulcer or something and should get that checked out by a Dr. The most negative thing for me has been that I lost a lot of hair. It all grew back, so no big deal at this point. -
Carbonated drinks
Humming Bird replied to Stephanie702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me carbonated drinks fall into that list of things where it doesn't matter what any Dr. says. I simply can not drink them. They cause discomfort, so I now avoid them without thought or regret ..... no big deal after awhile. -
Borderline Low Bmi- No Co Morbities?? Can I Be Approved??
Humming Bird replied to VP611's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Keep in mind that being approved by an insurance company and being approved by a lapband surgeon are 2 different things. If you are willing to be self-pay you can be banded with a lower BMI and no co-morbid conditions. The idea is that if you are very overweight it won't be long before you do have weight related health issues. My starting BMI was much higher than yours, so that was considered a "morbid" condition all by it's self. Morbid Obesity ....yuck! -
IMHO all weightloss surgeries are designed to work that way.

The Negative Nelly you are talking about has been posting here on LBT for a very long time and has always been negative. Many members have tried to get her to stop, but I think that just adds fuel. If she is getting you down, just put her on your ignore list so you never see what she posts. In my own experience I have to disagree with you on one point. The band has worked so well for me that they placed it, filled it, and the weight did come off with no effort. Love the band Of course there have been quite a few Negative Nellys that give me a hard time about that. They say I will make the newbees think the band is magic and they won't have to "work the tool". Well, that IS how it works for me! I do believe the thing is magic.

Help, I Feel Gurgling When I Drink
Humming Bird replied to shay33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very normal. You may have many sensations and noises in your bandster life. At just 4 days post-op you still have swelling and fluids and air pass through the stoma and make noise. Follow your doc's post-op directions. As long as the fluid is staying down you are fine. -
Yes, much of the time I can eat 1/2c of solid food and be satisfied for hours. If I eat soup it's more, but still have to stop if the soup is chunky after 1/2c of the solid parts. I eat 3-5 times a day depending on the day.

Please Help Answer These Key Questions.
Humming Bird replied to Shiki's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. How long was your pre-op liquid stage, and what were you told to eat? I did 2 weeks of Atkins to shrink liver (no liquid pre-op diet required) 2. How long was your post-op liquid stage, and what were you told to eat? First week clear (only cold) liquid. Then creamy, then progress with soft/mushie and so on...... 3. What was your follow-up care like with the doctor and his staff -- good, so-so, could be better? My doc did not require constant visits (and zero pre-op testing) and that worked great for me because I live in a different town. He and his staff were there any time I needed, but that was not often. I went back for a couple fills and then didn't go back for 10 months and had almost hit the 100# lost mark. I lost 100 at my 1 year date. I went back for a tiny tweek fill about 11 months after that. My doc has since retired, so I will go to someone he told me to go to in the future. 4. What was the thing you liked best about your experience and the least? It was great that I had zero hoops to jump through pre-op. It's a waste of time and money in my case. The surgery was outpatient. The very best thing has been that this has been the easiest weightloss in my life and the weight has stayed off! The worst thing that has happened during the 2 1/2 years is that I had quite a bit of hairloss. It is all back now, but was a drag for quite some time. -
oh, ok ..... I can relate. It will get easier. You will get to the point where it doesn't even sound good. Sometimes it even feels like the brain does get banded. I used to do the McMuffin and hashbrown thing often. Now McDs doesn't sound or smell good. It takes some time, but life gets so much better.

It sounds like you need a fill. I have not been able to eat like that even before I started getting fills. You are banded already right?

Is Lap-band Right For Me?
Humming Bird replied to Claym325's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is so true. The foods I can no longer eat have nothing to do with willpower or choosing not to eat them. I have read some posts that say "I refuse to deny myself food". For me, it has nothing to do with denying myself any type of food. The band will not let me eat those things. I am ok with no longer being able to every type of food in the world. These foods I can no longer eat must have been part of the reason I was obese. It has been very easy for me. It has been very basic .... insert band, get a couple fills, the weight melted off. So what if I can't eat steak or bread. I went from a size 24 jeans to a size 10!
