Can not keep anything down after 3rd fill
Humming Bird replied to A-WENZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are tighter than your sweet spot. Try liquids for a couple days and slowly work in the more solid stuff, but if you are throwing up, you may need a tiny unfill. -
Guess I am going to cancel my Oct 30 surgery!
Humming Bird replied to lilmissy2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my pre-op diet was Atkins for 2 weeks .... eating no carbs shrinks the liver. -
What !?!? That would be VERY irresponsible. I can't believe anyone would suggest it. The general anesthesia stays in your body for a long time. It would be as bad, if not worse, than driving drunk. You could easily kill yourself or someone else and you wouldn't even know what was happening. This is the very reason hospitals make sure you have an adult pick you up after surgery. In my case, they made my husband promise not to leave me alone for 24 hours. A cab driver is not an acceptable person to release you to and I doubt the hospital will do it.

How many...Fills, CC's, Pounds?
Humming Bird replied to Who'sThere's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded July 9, 09 and have lost 41 (maybe 42) pounds. 8 of those were pre-op. I have had 2 fills and now have 5.3cc in what I was told is a standard AP 12cc band. I am still very tight from my last fill and have much trouble with meat and anything that is like bread. I have another fill appt. for Nov. 6th, but may reschedule that one. It may be too soon to add any more. -
Did you have fluid in your band when it was inserted?
Humming Bird replied to WonderWmn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did not know until my first fill, but there was 2.7 cc in my band after surgery. -
You know you are a bandster when....
Humming Bird replied to Tyler883's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LMFAO..... LOVE This thread!!!!! I laughed so hard at the "chesticles" one (can relate) You know you're a banster when ... you have to wait a couple hours to take a chewable vitamin because you are too stuffed from the toddler portion of oatmeal you ate for breakfast. You know you're a banster when ... you can make 2 meals out of a lean cuisine. -
It is very common for obese people to have hiatial hernias. I had one repaired during my band surgery and did not require a stay at the hospital. Had surgery at 1:00pm and was outta there before 5:00pm. (and no extra charge for the hernia repair/ self pay)

I have had 2 fills with no numbing and no pain. I'm not saying that some people may feel pain with a fill or it may hurt worse if the person doing the fill is not experienced enough, but..... Just as getting a shot while at the dentist, if you walk in the door with a fear of needles and get yourself all worked up about it, the shot or fill will hurt more.

I think after x-mas would be a great time. I think any day is a great time really. I won't be able to pig out at thanksgiving or x-mas this year and that is ok with me because my weight is steadily going down and that is the greatest gift or reason to celebrate I gave myself. When I had my consult I asked when was the soonest I could get banded.

I'm so glad this is working out for you! For several days after my surgery all I even wanted was small sips of cold liquid anyway. Get the sub for your guests anyway and I hope you have a Happy Birthday!
-
WOW you have done really well! congrats! My 1 year goal is to take off 100 lbs too. Im not even close at this point as I was banded in July '09. I just hope I can do as great as you have done!

The day I offered my few words of support I did not realize I had replied in the men's room. I usually just look at "new posts" and pay little attention to the "room". I know it must be rough to go to support groups and forums that are so estrogen rich. I guess Humming Bird would be an ok name for a guy that swings the other way. I use that name often because I live in the mountains in Colorado where we get many humming birds. sorry again.... will try my best to stay out of u guy's special little place

Every office is different with how soon you can get in for appointments and set a surg date. It was really only 2 weeks for me. It took the 2 weeks because they wanted me to stay away from carbs for 2 weeks to shrink my liver so it would not b in the way during surgery.

Well, Excuuuuusssse ME!

After reading and replying your post earlier this morning, I can't get you off my mind. I will apologize in advance for anything I say here that may offend you. Do your parents know your surgery date? If so, what are they thinking by not going with you to be by your side for this surgery??!!!!! What are they thinking by not providing your transportation and staying with you after the surgery ? !!!! This is not the most major surgery you could ever have, but you will be under general anesthesia. It is not a simple surgery either. This is a big deal ! If my son (age 27) ever had surgery for anything, there is no question I would be there for him. I just don't get it ! I have had 4 surgeries in my life, and for the first 3 it was very comforting to have my mother's voice be the first thing I heard when I came out of the anesthesia. The only reason she was not at this surgery is because she died. That is the only thing in the world that would have stopped her from being with me during surgery. I think you should ask your parents to give you a ride to and from your surgery and look after you for at least the first 24 hours post-op. If they are not willing to do this, do you have a brother/sister/cousin? Like Stacy1980, I wish I lived closer. I would gladly give you a ride. I hope you work this out and hope I didn't offend you or hurt your feelings. I wish you the best on your journey.

You are still very much in control. It is your choice to be banded. There is no one else making you do it. You will now be in control of your weight loss. The band will only help you be even more in control of your future.

DENIED - HELP with Self Pay Options??? New Surgeon????
Humming Bird replied to attitudz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Health One 1-800-558-3424 (there is a link on Dr. K.'s web site too) It works like a credit card. They approve you for a max dollar amount and send you a card. You charge it on the card at Dr. K's office. I have a very high credit score and the best rate they would give is 10%. (because it is an unsecured loan) There is no interest for the first 6 months, so I am going to try to pay as much of it off as I can in the first 6 months. I might transfer the balance over to my Capital One card after that because my rate on that one is under 5%. My minimum monthly payment on my first bill from Health One was $100. It has gone down since then because I have been making large payments. -
DENIED - HELP with Self Pay Options??? New Surgeon????
Humming Bird replied to attitudz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. it was $9950 for everything. This includes free fills for 3 months and the fills after that are only $15. You could get a cheap flight to Denver for a fill for less money than some of these docs charge per fill. There is a hotel about a block away from the surgery center. He will do a phone consult and does not require you to do all that pre-op stuff you just went through. It has all worked out well for me s far. He has many patients that come from other states. his web site is Lap Band Surgery in Denver Colorado | Lap Band Surgeon in Denver | Gastric Band Surgery Denver | Bariatric Surgery -
I live 1 1/2 hour drive from where I had surgery. I got a hotel room for that first night. The problem I see with your situation is that you are not supposed to be left alone for the first 24 hours. My husband was with me.

Scheduled November 18, 2009
Humming Bird replied to Neener's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self pay and am glad I did it for myself. Thanksgiving will come and go and by then you will have dropped enough weight to feel really good about all of it! -
Hiatal hernias are very common. I'm taking it they repaired yours when they placed your band? I had mine repaired when they place mine. All my symptoms went away with the repair. I have heard other people on this site talk about it coming back. I have also heard of the same symptoms as the hiatal hernia happening with other complications. Maybe it is a warning sign? If you are thinking you have a hiatal hernia, you should talk to your lapband doc.

Had my surgery this morning...sore!!
Humming Bird replied to LILYTAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With me it helped to "roll" out of bed. Even that will get better very soon. I hope your job isn't too demanding. The only real problem I had going back to work was feeling very weak. -
