    scared about having fills done

I have a little secret I use. I use Sonacaine topical anesthetic gel. My daughter got this for electroloysis.(sp) I rub this on before I leave the house (Don't forget to lay down when you do this because your port moves) Then cover it with saran wrap. This was a trick they told DD at the hair removal place. Then when you sign it rub in another little dab of the gel. When I go in the room I take off the saran and then wipe off the area. No pain or even little pinch from the needle because the needle does not go in the muscle. I have never told the doctor; but one fill I forgot to take off the saran. When he lifted my shirt he peeled the saran off and looked at me like I was crazy. I told him what it was and how good it worked and he said to go for it. I have done it ever since and NO pain or pinch. I am a real chicken can you tell.
  2. I also like the Jay Robb whey Protein powders. You can try individual flavors and then pick what you want in the larger can. I get the vanilla and mix them with fruits or sometimes the sugar free Davinci syrup. You can add Water or milk. Don't buy too much because after surgery you only use it for 24-48 hours after a fill. At least, that is what my doctor recommends. I have had one can and I am seven months out. Almost time for another can. It is 100% whey isolate so higher in protein. 25 grams of protein per serving. Sorry I sound like a ad. The real reason I picked this is because it tastes good.

    backing out

Renee: Good luck!! I don't think you made a bad decision. The lap band is not all that it is cracked up to be. Give your new lifestyle change a good chance. I hope you do well.

    Who has trouble w/ Yogurt?

No problem with yogurt here. As a matter of fact it is almost a slidder food for me.

    Slimband?

Please, please, do not hesitate to change surgeons or facilities if you feel there is a problem. The aftercare is so very important with the lapband. I think the minimum you can ask for is who your surgeon will be.
  6. Hi everyone. I had my band done September 22, 2009. I have a leak and have to have surgery to repair this leak. They don't know where it is at yet. I have never had restriction yet. I have lost 47-50 pounds but it has all been me. I did better on weight watchers, I lost 62 pounds in six months. Anyone else having any problems. The only good thing is the doctor said it wasn't me. But he is not cutting his fee or anything. Full price on everything second time around. Real Bummer!!!! Please tell me if you have had any problems. Thanks

    Fellow September Bandsters

Hi guys: No one in the september group has had any problems?
  8. This is an excellent program, I highly recommend it. Not learning to use a knife and fork is awful also.
  9. Headhunter if that is you, the boards have sure been dull without you. (LOL)
  10. I am so glad you confronted your doctor. But, to say he does "not consider you not successful". Come on, you are a success. You couldn't even pry that out of him. You deserve a better doctor. I know you don't want to change doctors; but, there are more encouraging doctors out there. Go to some other doctors support groups or seminars and get an idea of their personality. You deserve it.
  11. I think you should change doctors. The whole process is hard enough without a negative doctor thrown in. Just my opinion though.

    Carbs, Carbs, Carbs!!!!

I believe that each persons body reacts differently to carbs. I know I am carb sensitive. My doctor did not limit my carbs in any way. If you are not losing the way you want, you may be carb sensitive also. I am very envious of all of you that can eat carbs. I just can't eat that many. I don't think it is a U.S. or Aussie thing. I think it is an individual thing. I love the idea of eating all your Proteins first. And like Cingulus said we do need carbs for our body to function properly. Some carbs react much better than others, even good carbs with different people. Thanks for the good carb suggestions. Betsy, I think we have the same body. Those carbs are killers for weight loss. So you really need to find out what works for you.

    Carbs, Carbs, Carbs!!!!

There is a carb group of here that seem to do really great. Betsy 25-35 is really great. I know that carbs are my downfall; but, I can only limit so much. I do less than 60 but wish it was 25-35. I just can't seem to do it. My downfall with WW was that I carbed out. I lost 62 pounds never went over 20 points or used my extra 35 a week. But, of that 20 points too many were carbs and I just stopped losing. I just stopped losing with 20 points a day. So that is why I got the band. The doesn't stop me eating carbs but it does help me to get my Proteins in first so I am not so hungry for the carbs. I do Protein, veg and then carbs if I am hungry. When I grow up I hope to be one of you low carb people. I just can't seem to do it yet. Any suggestions to lower the carbs would be appreciated. I think WW is great for the journaling and accountability of weighing in each week; but, they just don't push the low carbs as much as I need. (If you do go, don't tell them you have the band) Remember we are the ones that take the easy way out.
  15. Mine is the runny nose also. If I eat any more, then I get the hiccup.

    Set Point Theory

I thought I read about this somewhere but can't seem to find it. I did Weight Watchers two years ago and lost 62 pounds. I gained it all back but 20 pounds. I had the lap band done Sept 22 and I have now reached that same weight(181 lost 41 pounds) and seem to have really slowed down losing weight. What are your thoughts on this. Do any of you think we do have a set weight that could be genetic or any other reason? It would sure explain a lot. I think we can get lower than our set point but with a lot of work. I am interested in your thoughts on this.

    Set Point Theory

That would be great if you could reset your set point weight if you keep it off two years. (Now I have to do more reading on this) Now just to get there, and the hardest part for me is keeping if off. I hope this is where the band will do its thing.

    Easter Challenge Anyone?

Hey everyone you are doing great. I signed up but can't find the chart. (Was it a different Easter Challenge?) Any way, I only get on the scales when I go to the Doctor. I am down 3 pounds. Who Hoo!!! Sounds like most everyone is doing great. Sorry for the Alien erosion. If anyone can tell me where to find the chart I would appreciate it. Thanks

    Set Point Theory

I hope set point is temporary. I think it is true; bu,t I think we can get past it with a lot of work. I am just wondering if we stop trying hard will we kind of bounce back to that weight. No one commented if they think there is a genetic component to Set Point Therory. I "googled" Set Point Theory and there is a lot of information regarding genetics. Just another thought.

Heck no, go for it. You definitely worked for it.

    Blender vs Immersion Blender

I like the regular blender or the magic bullet. I have an immersion blender and it just doesn't seem to handle anything with much substance and it can be a mess. I like the magic bullet but I think I like a regular blender better because of the amount it can hold. Just my opinion.

Made it through the FIRST Day

You handled that luncheon so great. Keep up the good work. Just watch that rice. That was a hard one for me.

    Re: "Inverted T" abdominoplasty

Thanks for posting all about your plastic surgery. I have been following your posts. I know it is in my future and I appreciate all of you who have been so open with your information. Wow that is really something about Peter Tobin. We all have such interesting lives.
  24. Bob: Good luck!! I hope you have great success. Just wondering if you checked out all the different WLS. I have the band and it is harder than I thought. I wish I had gotten the sleeve; but, I don't think I would have had the nerve to do it. There is a lot of information out there. Just make sure you know all your options. You will do great no matter what surgery you select. You sound like you have the motivation. Keep us posted!!

    New 60+ Thread

I have never had any problems with blood clots; but they did give me some kind of shot before surgery they said was for this. I also spent the night and they put on those leg things that message your legs that are suppose to prevent blood clots. No problems. Good luck!!!
