18 days post op and some strange pains (throat and back)...can someone explain
stephaniel71 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I have 2 strange pains. I don't want to necessarily call the doctor's office on these, so I was wondering if anyone has experienced these. First, I keep getting a stabbing pain in left side, middle of my back. Just for a few seconds, but keeps coming back. I am assuming gas, but this is a new pain for the last 3 days. Second, I feel like I have something stuck in my throat now and then. Threre of course is nothing there, I don't feel sick, just almost feels like someone is grabbing my throat. I was thinking maybe blockage with food, but it doesn't matter if I am hungry or full, it just comes and goes. Is this normal? Has anyone had either of these? Do you know what they might be? Any help is appreciated. -

3 More Days !!!!!!
stephaniel71 replied to toribug1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with your journey. It will be 3 weeks on Thursday for me. I concur....WALK, WALK, WALK after your surgery. The incision pains subsides pretty quick, but the gas pain can be challenging. I had no idea and it came as a surprise to me. So walk as much as you can for the 3-5 days following surgery. I promise you, it will help. Best of luck to all of you!!! -
One week post op and I cheated! Please help.
stephaniel71 replied to chatty826's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well one of the suggested things on my surgeons list for week three is low fat mac & cheese. So I think I love my surgeon about now. I agree it is about weight loss. As long as you watch your intake of sugar (the biggy with my surgeon) and get all our proteins in first, you should be good. I could never give up dairy. it was hard enough giving up my diet coke. :smile2: -
Constipation can I take stool softners yet?

5 days post op the nurse recommended senokot (natural laxative). She said it is safe to take as often as I need. Works like a charm. -
Thank you for your blog. I need to hear stuff like that. I am just begining my journey...17 days post op. It is a tough time right now...addictions still strong. But I can't wait to be loving my new life again. I am so happy for you.

thank you for the encouragement. Today is a better day. I know this was the right decision. I look forward to a better future...I know this. And you are right...SOOO MUCH money saved. Just that little devil gets in my head sometimes. I am quieting her a little by little each day. Good luck to all of you.

I am 16 days post op, feeling pretty good. On pureed foods. I have my first fill appointment set for November 19th, so far down 17.5 pounds. But this evening I found myself questioning my decision.... My fiancé and I decided to go to the mall and pick up a few things and catch a movie. I thought this was a great idea. Since the surgery, I really hadn't done much for fun. I think this was not the best choice for me. This is something we do a lot. We usually make a day of it and have a lot of fun. But I forgot our day usually included eating at either Chevy's tex mex or Cheesecake factory, popcorn and soda with the movie or sneaking in an Auntie Ann's pretzel and top off the night with a Love it size Founder favorite Cold Stone Creamery Ice cream. Well I am pleased to report, I did not do any of the aforementioned. BUT IT WAS NOT EASY!!! I came home feeling anxious, ravenous, and depressed. I was sitting there not knowing why I was feeling this way, when it finally dawned on me. My old life, the one that revolved around food, was dead. I do question if I made the right decision. Again, I know this is my addictions talking. I need to know that these feelings pass. I know when I look at the scale and I put on my lose pants, I have made the right decision, it is just the silly little mind that plays tricks on me. Anyone else feel the same? Any advice?

My surgeon allowed me to move on to soups and scrambled eggs on day 7. Don't worry. You aren't hurting anything. Just keep walking to make sure the gas moves along. I had no problems moving. I am on week there and now on pureed food. Hang in and don't beat yourself up. I thought a week was long, I can't image 4 weeks. -
Well 12 days post op here. Doing well. On soups, scrambled eggs and yuckie protein shakes. Had a rough night last night. Was feeling anxious about life in general. I think I made about 10 trips to the frig last night. I miss my dear friend...food. I had to actually work through what I was feeling last night instead of bury it with food. That is a hard task to do. I am hopeful this will get easier. I have to remember, food is not my friend, it never was. It kept me from doing the things I loved to do... going to social events, going to the beach, horse back riding, going out dancing and oh so much more!!! to our new lives...

My insurance denied - I need to prove 5 years obesity - HELP
stephaniel71 posted a blog entry in Blog 70800
My insurance denied coverage because they say I did not show 5 years obesity. I have had a bmi of 43 or greater for the last 10 years. After long consideration, I finally made what I thought was a great decision, just to be disappointed. I have only been with my primary doctor for 3 years. Before that, I did not have health insurance. I did not go to medical doctors during that time...maybe once or twice if I absolutley had to, but they did not weigh me. Does anyone know what else the insurance company will accept for proof of obesity for 5 years? Who the heck goes to the doctor and says, "oh you better weigh me because in 5 years, I might have surgery!" Devestated in New York! -

I did finally get approved 2 1/2 months later. For all of you out there struggling with your insurance company, don't give up. That is what they want you to do. Just keep appealing and appealing. -
I understand not wanting to tell people about the surgery. I agree, it isn't their business. I told the people that are important to me. The rest, it just doesn't matter. Because, yes, there will be some haters out there. But they are the ones that have never had our struggles, our addictions, our sadness. Keep up the good work and stay strong.

Help! Gas pain like you cannot believe - 4 days post op
stephaniel71 commented on stephaniel71's blog entry in Blog 70800
I want to share with you that the gas has about 80% subsided. I will have to say the walking for more than 10 minutes 3-4 times a day certainly helped along with the gas X. So if you are just starting this journey, hang in, it will pass. -

9 days post op and good things to report
stephaniel71 commented on stephaniel71's blog entry in Blog 70800
Thanks for the encouragement imaluckydog. Regarding soups, my nutritionists wants me to eat high protein soups. I tried the progresso Lentil soup and to my surprise it was quite good. Also, the soda thing I was told was do to gas and possibly stretching the pouch and possible slippage. I am too paranoid to even try. -
Well I am 9 days post op and doing quite well. On full liquids, so very happy to at least have some good tasting soups. Started my protein shakes 2 days ago, so my energy level is up...thank God! Great things... I am down 16 pounds (I hope I don't gain back once on regular food) Strangly enough I stopped snoring. My fiance mostly benefited from that one. I wake up in the morning alive...not like a zombie before. It used to take me 2 hours to get myself into the swing of the day. My gas pain is about 75% gone (that was the worst, but I recommend walk, walk, walk and gas X) My cravings are in high swing. Rough day yesterday. I cried over a diet soda...ugh. Doesn't help I am in PMS mode. I know the addictions will pass, but this is quite a challenge. Overall I am doing great. I question my decision now and then, but I know that is my addiction talking. Any encouragement from the long term successful bandsters, would love to hear some encourage. Thanks all! Good luck!

I thought band was different...........
stephaniel71 replied to esv2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is a shame that you were misinformed about the band. I don't think that your doctor and nutritionists did the orientation of the band. One of the reasons I chose the band over bypass was because I needed to do some of the work. The band is supposed to be a leg up, not a cure. I know it is difficult, but it is possible. Hang in there. -

Thanks! This has been the hardest part. The incision pain was nothing. Hanging in there and trying to walk, walk, walk. Tried gas X for the first time yesterday, but had some of the worst pains to date afterwards. Will keep plugging...like I have a choice LOL -
