What did you tell your employer & co-workers?
Ranger replied to sara31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just told everyone that i was having hernia surgery, which I did have one so it was not really lying. With the weight loss, they knew I had to go through a preop diet and I just told them I continued with it afterward, they have not noticed much of the weight loss since they see me daily. They just notice that I do not eat sugar and no caffeine and exercise on both breaks and lunch so they just assume it is frmo exercise and good eating and I have not corrected them. I know if I would have told anyone at work the whole place would have known before the end of the day. Do what you feel comfortable with. It is your decision if you tell anyone and the consequences will be what you have to live with not anyone else, so you have ot do what you are comfortable with. -
I am in. I am going to shot for 20 pounds.

I was banded on June 7th, things are going ok, still in pain and dealing with the gas pain.
-
The nurse in the hospital had the same surgery and she told my husband that I would have shoulder pain from the repairing of the hernia and the band, just is were the pain migrates to...I still have it and I have a tear pain when I lay down, so i sleep in a recliner since I came home. I told my mom when she seen me that I had the hernia surgery I did not let her know I was even having surgery till she seen me and than I just told her that I did not want to make a big deal about it so I did not say anything to anyone.. I do have the luxury that all my family except my mom and sister leave in Ohio with you so they can not visit me, thank god...they would be the same way I would never get any rest. I am still on liquid so I have been able to make through the day without being hungry, I do not go to pureed food until Monday. Glad to know that potato will not be a good choice, I do love sweet potatoes though, so going to have to figure out how to handle those and not get hunger pains......My dietician said I can eat baby food during the pureed food week if I would like, I do know that some of them are good, but that is just an option.

I am in the Modesto area, my surgeon was Dr. Coirin. The nausea has gone away but the shoulder pain and the gas is awful, I am hoping it goes away soon. Otherwise I am tired a lot and can not sleep much only about 30 minutes at a time, have not slept a full night yet, nor have I been able to sleep in my bed have been on the couch cause it is easier to get up from with the pain in my stomach.

Julie, I am in the same situation. I was banded on the 7th also and i only told my husband and the two girls that I have lunch with every day. They have all been told not to say a thing. I did not even tell my mom ( she came by on Thursday and noticed I was not dong well, I told her I had Hernia surgery, which is somewhat true, cause they did a hernia repair also. As soon as she got home she called my aunts and told them, hence the reason I did not tell her the truth, she can not keep secrets from my aunts which then tell my cousins and so on.....I have not been eating much for a couple months before surgery and following the rules for after surgery, so that when I go somewhere with her now she will not notice a difference. If you need someone to talk with you, I am here. We will be on the same schedule. I can say that i still have the shoulder pain and the gas pain. i will say just do what you feel comfortable with, if that is keeping it from your family than so be it...it is your decision and you have to deal with the outcome, no one else can...if you need someone to talk with I am here, I live in california, so I am 3 hours different but am home for 6 weeks so will be around at different hours.

Was banded yesterday, was at the hospital till 6 at night checked in at 7:30 a.m. Can not stay awake and keep throwing up, been drinking only water, any thing else comes up. Tried Popsicle and jello,no luck, the pain medicine they gave me comes up also. In a little pain when i move around but ok, the doctor gave medication for pain, nausea and gas but cannot keep them down. Has anyone ever had this problem, will it get better? I am completely miserable and not lay down flat been sleeping in a chair.

Banded Yesterday and miserable
Ranger replied to Ranger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the help, am able to keep some broth down now, but now it hurts to breathe, everytime I take a deep breath it hurts at the port site. It hurts when I move also, even if it just my legs...kinda worried and regretting doing this, I have not had this much pain after a surgery ever.....:tongue2: -
I finally got my surgery date. It only took 3 days for my insurance to approve. It is 5 weeks away but it will be here before I know it. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I have been planning this for several years and finally decided to go through with it and now I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I just talked with the insurance company and I was approved for surgery, today.....it only took 5 days for approval...yeah.

I have Blue Shield EPO in the Central Valley CA area. Just wondering if anyone else has gotten the band done with this insurance. I am told that I only need three things to get approval. I need to meet with a PCP, psych and dietician. I have meet with everything but the dietician. I meet with her in 2 weeks. Just wondering if after all is complete how long the process to get approval was frmo someone with the same type of coverage. Thanks.

Just starting the process have been researching for over a year and decided with the help of my primary Dr. that this would be the best for me. I have met with the surgeon, been to the seminar. Told that my insurance only requires 3 things, a health screen from my primary Dr, a psych appt and a report from the dietician. I have complete everything so far but the report from the dietician. I have that scheduled in 2 weeks than the waiting begins...approval from my insurance. I talked with my insurance and they said they cover as long as it is medically necessary....so we will see, I have Blue Shield EPO in Central Valley, CA. My surgeon is Dr. Coirian, which I hear is a great surgeon. This is the beginning of my journey.
