Am I alone in this or does anyone else get "sick" while being around others while eating? I cant stand to be around family eating huge portions of JUNK. It repulses me & I feel like I'm not the "normal" one in the group.
-
Maybe it bothers me so much b/c it's family & I hate seeing them destroy their body ? My father in law is diabetic but says he doesnt have diabetes b/c his numbers were in the normal range. Now he loads up on 3 or 4 plates of, well, garbage. Carbs, candy, pop, etc. My bil is 30 & having BOTH hips replaced. He's easily at 400 lbs , about 5 ft tall. At the last cook out he devoured 5 large brats on buns w/all the fixins. Also had his 5 plates of food heaped up high & a 2 liter bottle of pop. They seem stupidfied how I'm losing weight & even when I tell them they act like eating less and exercising isn't normal. I guess I need a support group but the local one here is 2 hrs away. I'm dreading cookouts & family meals (Easter) b/c of this :frown:

Anyone have aetna PPO what loops are there?
WhyW8 replied to La Gordita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had to see the nutritionist, surgeon, and exercise gal once a month for 3 months. I had to have 2 yrs proof of my weight--did that thru family physician. I had to do psych evaluation then follow up w/him. (which ins. is denying pmt so I'm appealing) I was on b.p. med and a recent test for sleep apnea showed possible sleep apnea so I had co-morbidities. If you contact your insurance they can email you what's required for the surgery. Keep a copy of that & also, in hindsight, I'd call & verify that everything needed for surgery is a covered expense. -
Anyone have aetna PPO what loops are there?
WhyW8 replied to La Gordita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have Aetna. My advice is that even though they require nutritionist, dr, psyh eval, exercise, etc , it does NOT mean that your policy PAYS for those. Question it TWICE!!! I have to appeal a denial for 2 psych evaluations which my plan doesnt pay for. I say, if they require it, they should PAY for it !!! At no time did any paper work or phone calls reveal it wasnt covered. Good luck:thumbup: -
My surgery was Oct 8th. I followed 3 mo. plan required w/Aetna. I"m just now seeing figures on my Aetna acct online for expenses. They're still denying the psych consult costs because now they said I needed a preapproval thru ANOTHER company. There was nothing in any papers, phone conversations, medical plan booklets, etc that said I needed preapproval thru another source for psych consult.I dont know how they expected me to pull the name & number out of the air as to who I was supposed to get approval thru. I read what was sent to me regarding requirements for weight loss surgery. It tells what is required in order to have the surgery but does NOT mention they dont pay for nutrition or psych consults. To be honest, the drs office told me their cost would cover all of my medical expenses & requirements for the sugery. My mistake for not getting what "all costs" were in writing. I'm lookin at a bill of over $500 but I'll appeal/fight it if/when it's denied.

So this is your second band to have slipped? Throwing up black contents? Eating once a day? Running fevers? Living with a slipped band? You cannot be serious :smile2:
-
I know a lot of people say it helps but my recovery nurse said exactly what you did, the gas isnt in your digestive system it's under the skin. The best thing that worked for me was walking and moving around.

Any user reviews yet? Still waiting on mine due to a small snafu......

Just wondering how soon you got back to exercising after surgery? I'm in physical therapy for a knee injury (scope surgery 5 mo. ago for that) I currently ride stationary bike 20 minutes, leg extension machine 15 min, and a leg press machine 15 min. VERY little weight and resistance still. It's a workers comp. injury & if I'm not in pt they're threating to not send my "paycheck". My dr said nothing for 4 weeks after surgery. Exercise person at his office said I can do same as what I'm currently doing starting a few days after surgery. I will ask him again when I see him but in the meantime was wondering about anyone else who's already had surgery.

I saw my surgeron yesterday. I reminded him I'm NOTwanting to lift weights, I just need clearance to walk on treadmill. Initially he said no treadmill but discharge notes said to walk 15-30 min. a day. Well, if I have to walk I'd rather do it on treadmill right now instead of outside in 30 degree temps and snow. Yesterday he said that I CAN walk on treadmill at S L O W pace. :crying: No bike b/cause that uses abdominals/stomach muscles & those still need to heal.

I like that idea. Will help my son w/healthier food selections instead of chicken nuggets & mac & cheese lol. He's very interested in what I'm eating now....I"ll suggest he & I share the next time we order
-
I ordered one today too. Looks like it'll be good for tuna/chicken salad, blending salsa and soups, etc. Some stores have the Ninja but dont have the extra containers. I got the cook book too. Anxious to get it now!

I cant believe you can eat that much & not get sick, stuck or screw up your new band  I had tomato juice w/a few small pieces of ground turkey & a few kidney beans & was yelled at for possibly messing up my band so early in the game. Burger & pizza????WOW:drool: My family & I went to a very nice burger place in Jackson WY yesterday. They savored large juicy burgers w/bacon, cheese & all the fixins. I had french onion soup MINUS the bread, cheese & onion! BROTH. I look forward to being able to eat "regular food" in much smaller amounts but I think it's important to take care of ourselves now. Get yourself back on track & next time pack protein drink, soup, whatever you need for your stage of the plan.

:w00t::scared2::eek: My eyes are going buggy

My drs office gave me a card to show when I eat out asking for smaller portions/allow me to order off childrens menu. Do restrauants really pay attention to that? Pre-band I noticed menus stating there would be an extra charge for smaller portions/special requests. My plan is to share w/my husband's meal----persuading him to order what I want lol

My plan required the 3 mo. of nutritionist, doctor check ups, psych evalu., 2 years of weight problems, etc. When I made calls to Aetna to check on requirements I was given one answer then another when I called back. Double check your yes and double check your no!!!! When my surgeons office submitted my papers my family dr had not given them my 2 yrs of weight related office visits. Aetna gave me an approval in 30 minutes! My problem w/Aetna is they require a nutritionist 3 visits and psych eval.....but with my policy they do NOT cover that expense. I"m looking at $500 psych bill & going to fight to get it paid.

Post Op 6 days and still have pain?
WhyW8 replied to Karen12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
another October 8th bandster here I"m still having tenderness in what I believe is the port area. Liquid Tylenol is taking care of the pain but I do have Tylenol w/codeine (rx) if I need it. I still find it hard to lay down flat in bed so I"m sleeping propped up on the couch. The larger incision is very bruised but otherwise looks ok. One day at a time I guess  -
Liquid diet help !!!! Please
WhyW8 replied to MyBandJourney2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I watched some videos on youtube of the surgery. When I saw how close the liver was to the stomach I was VERY motivated to stick w/the liquids to improve my chances of shrinking my liver for surgery. I didnt want to wake up from surgery & hear that they couldnt do the surgery b/cause the liver was too large. When I wanted to stray from the diet I had a mental picture of my liver. It wasnt easy, I admit. You CAN do it though. Hang in there!!! -
October 2009 Surgery Date?
WhyW8 replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery October 8th. A few snafu's getting there but it's all good now. Very little of the gas pain the second day, none today. Nurse said the gas x wont work for gas pains from surgery b/cause the gas is in the tissues and not the intestines. Heating pad on my back still feels wonderful! Havnt taken pain med since Sunday. Soreness is mostly gone. Dr has me on clear liquids for a week & I'm finding "variety" is most difficult. Dr gave me a $25 gift card for GNC which I thought was a nice treat -

Constipation....holy ^&*%*
WhyW8 replied to tke100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of stool softener does anyone use? I did my presugery shopping & got the colace generic. When I opened the bottle it's got a gel on half of it. Dont think it can be crushed or split in half. -
Just checking in to see how everyone else is doing on their presurgery diet. Seems there were quite a few of us starting it. I've been on it 6 days. Have lost 7 pounds. Should have taken my measurments but I can tell I've lost. When I put my tshirt it went down over my hips The diet part is ok. I have an image of my mind of my liver "shrinking" and that keeps me going.

Im trying to find a shake I can stomach. Need Opinions.
WhyW8 replied to corinne211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist recommended Muscle Milk LIGHT. I get them in chocolate and really do like them. two thumbs up  -
October 8th for me. One more week on the "liver shrinking" diet.
