As I said, my date is January 13. I'm already looking very hard at what I eat and why I eat it. In fact, I'd go tomorrow for this procedure if I could. I'm very excited and nervous at the same time. I have realized a lot of what I have done in the past that has added the weight on. I have also noticed that I have done very little to stop it since I kind of feel like I am on a countdown. I will follow my pre and post diet to a "t" - because failure is NOT an option. I guess I am not cracking the whip on myself for the last days (until my 10 day diet) because I know I am going to make life changes forever. I already have my treadmill ready and have picked out a home gym that I am hoping Santa will bring me. I am in therapy for bone spurs on my right heel so that I can USE the treadmill come January. Anyone else feeling like they are on a slippery slope?

Help! I feel that this whole thing isn't working for me right.....
Just-Ice replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
May I make a suggestion.. It's not that you CAN eat something you KNOW you shouldn't.. it is that you SHOULDN"T eat something you know you SHOULDN"T. Sure.. rice, Pasta and bread CAN go do, but isn't that what got us in this place to begin with? You have to change your eating habits yourself. THey will not automatically change for you. The band is a tool to help you eat better, not to allow you to eat what you want as you did before. From my research, some people are able to eat regular foods and lose weight, some arn't. You must be in that "arn't" catageory. Find what works for your body and stick with it. -
Hey all, I just wanted to let everyone here post-band know how much you are helping us pre-banders. I don't go until January 13 for mine, but I have been around here since the summer. The information I have learned from you guys has been invaluable. I honestly don't know if I would be this far into changing my life without having your expereiences to comb through and learn from. So.. I would like to thank you for sharing your information and allowing me to learn from your mistakes and triumphs. AND.. Not that you need it, but I am SOOOO very proud of you guys for the dedication you have put forth and the weight you have lost. It gives me hope that I may do the same. :w00t:

old bandster looking for support, direction, advice
Just-Ice replied to typoqueen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
you are only a failure if you give up... obviously you have not. You are able to recognize that what has sabataged the band so far, perhaps a talk with the psychologist would help? A food journal is an EXCELLENT idea. I use one and have taken to adding two more bits of information in addition to what I eat. I also write down WHY I ate it and what type of MOOD I am in at the time. It has helped me see a pattern that I am working to change. Good luck to you :wink2: -
seriously? they wont work with you??? wow, I think I'd start looking for a new doctor and I'd be very sure to tell them why.

Surgery without general anesthesia?
Just-Ice replied to Yvette1026's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that thought scares the crap out of me! I have had three surgeries where I was to be in a "twilight" sleep.. I felt the beginning of each of them. There is NO way I would sign off on having this done without being totally and completely under. Also, it is my understanding that a person is entibated (sic?) and a balloon is fed down the throat into the stomach in order to help with pouch definition. I'm not sure it's possible to do that in a less than completely under state. I'm not a doctor.. but I do watch House. -

80 Pounds Gone- half way to goal:)
Just-Ice replied to mellabella78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fantastic news!! Congrats to you!! Now.. what are you going to do to celebrate? I know of a pair of boots that will be calling my name when I am half way to goal weight!! -
Ok, so I guess I'll be the voice of reason here. You are 4 days post op and you are eating like that? Why bother having the surgery to begin with? Surely you met with a nut. and I'm pretty certain that mac & cheese and baked potatoes are not the 4 days post op diet. I guess I just don't understand why someone would go through with the risks of this surgery if they aren't going to take things seriously now that you've been given a chance to change your eating habits. The way I see this is if you are eating that at 4 days post op, what is going to stop you from returning to what/how you ate beforehand in six months? I really don't mean to come across as rude.. just honest.

Everyone's 5 New Years Resolutions
Just-Ice replied to GraciesMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see what the original poster means. Yes, people tend to down play what other doctors have said. I understand what you meant was to NOT tear down the original doctors orders and say .. "well you don't have to do what your dr says, you can do what MY dr says.." our doctors DO have reasons for what they say - believe it or not. I see no problem with advice.. I really just think that reading the first post was takien at face value and not really read into to find what she truly meant. I also see where the rah-rah can be harmful. For instance, I'm following another thread where the original poster of that thread has totally screwed up their eating habits again. NO ONE has said "look, you screwed up.. get back on track", instead it's been all "it's ok..".. well, frankly, it's not ok. If someone is willing to go through surgery to have a healthier life, it is NOT ok to backslide into what got us here to begin with. Now.. I realize I have not been banded yet, however, that does not negate what I say. I do understand that I may backslide, and I would expect someone to grab me by the shoulders and give me an ear full.. I would deserve that. And if someone else were being totally honest with me.. they'd do just that. Just my opinion.. take 'em for what they are worth to you. -
how do you know if your approved?
Just-Ice replied to mandze90's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My paperwork was submitted AFTER I met with the surgeon, nut. and psych evaluator. Although I had documented information from my pcp, it wasn't requied - or needed. My surgeon's office took care of everything. They have a person on staff (each dr' office has one) that coordinates the information submitted to the insurance company. However in my case, I was appproved way back on August 6, but never heard anything from my insurance carrier (Anthem) as far as a definitive answer. My doctors office never received notification either. My husband had to call Anthem directly and was told my surgery was approved (apparently by the wrong department.) I FINALLY got a copy of the letter a couple weeks ago and forwarded it to my doctors office. Interesting note, when my husband called the insurance company, the lady he spoke to kept mumbling that they don't just accept the first round from the doctor, that I'd have to do this and that to get approved. When she read the letter allowed to my husband, she changed her tune. Her comment was "Wow, they must of read the script of exactly what we needed and followed it when they submitted her data." ... Exactly what I would expect from a doctors office. -

First Fill not in port
Just-Ice replied to topspinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My boss has had the same surgery. She is torn between giving up and returning to a doctor that has missed her port several times now. I feel sorry for her and have encouraged her to visit the other doctor in the practice (my doctor) but haven't had any luck as of yet. She has several medical problems and I know she'd feel better if she just got the weight off. Maybe she is just waiting to see what type of luck I have with them. My surgery date is 1/13. I don't say TOO much to her since I haven't been in her shoes.. hopefully I won't be at all. -
Calories once on solids

HOLY CRAP!! 12,000 calories??? lol, yes, I know it was a typo, but it was funny! -
I'm having my surgery at St. Elizabeth Florence (in Florence, KY) January 13, 2010. My surgery was approved through Anthem without having to jump through any hoops. Dr. Moon's office handled everything and I was approved on the first try. I'm not too sure about the office staff as I've had several little issues already. Nothing huge mind you.. but often the small things are what really ticks me off. I'm hoping to report they have turned things around as I get closer to my date.

The most doctor recommended gym shoes are from new balance. Keep in mind that the higher the number, the more support offered. With that in mind, I would suggest visiting a running speciality store to have them watch you walk on a treadmill. That little walk with confirm if you walk on the inside, outside, wobble side - whatever side of your foot and fit you into the best possible shoe for YOUR foot. Happy Walking!
