Can someone tell me how much do you eat each meal? Post sugery?
Colls replied to jessicakolman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on clear liquids for two weeks and was told to sip 4 oz of liquids every hour and to have three 4 oz protein shakes. Basically I needed to be sipping every hour. I was required to get in 64 oz of liquids and 72 grams of protein each day. -
Mushies diet?? Calorie Intake??
Colls replied to Kelleeelliott's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my nutritionist yesterday for meal advancement and she said that I was to eat 4 tbs of mushies three times a day. Not sure how many calories that equates to but I am sure it not too much considering the size! I am eating low fat and high protein things, plus the protein shakes three times a day. -
Tired of chicken broth, protein shakes and cream of chicken soup any suggestions?
Colls replied to lilmissy2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on clear liquids for two weeks and then I go to mushies (hopefully Thursday!). Like you, I am very sick of liquids. To mix things up I had some miso soup (drained - no tofu or seaweed). I also went to the Chinese place by work and got a large container of wonton soup broth (no wontons or scallions). This tasted like food to me! Be careful of sodium - you can dilute these with some water to reduce your sodium intake. Another soup is egg drop soup. -
Before surgery I was taking Prilosec, which is like Nexium only it is available over the counter. I don't have GERD, just acid reflux. After surgery my surgeon put me on Prilosec for another month in order to avoid ulcers. I am not sure if I will need to continue taking it or not after the first month. It seems that every doctor is different though.

I was banded on the 20th and had 3 cc's at the time of surgery. However, I was not allowed to leave the hospital until I was able to drink 4 oz of liquid in one hour. The process was very time consuming: 1 oz in an hour (4 times) 2 or in an hour (4 times) 3 oz in an hour (4 times) 4 oz in an hour (4 times) I was okay until I reached the last hour of the 4 oz - I got very nauseous and had to stay an extra night. My surgeon game in and told me there are a couple of reasons this could have happened. One - they took me off of the IV medication and gave me two pills to swallow. In order to swallow the pills you are required to drink a little more liquid in less time - this could cause nausea. Two - the band has 3 cc's and they may need to do an unfill if I can't get the 4 oz down with out feeling ill. I think it was the pills - the next time they gave me some I asked them to break them in half and then took them in a longer period of time. I feel great right now and have been on Clear Liquids since the 18th. Tomorrow is my second follow up and I should be okay to start mushies (I can't wait). -

Hello All, I was wondering how to set a goal weight. I was banded on the 20th and went for my follow up appointment yesterday and I forgot to ask the doctor. I want to be realistic, but I also do not want to underestimate myself. The calculators that you find on the web basically say that a healthy weight for my height is between 101-136 lbs. Anything under 130 just sounds really low - but maybe that's because I can't imagine being in the 100's - I have been over 200 lbs for as long as I can remember. Once I figure out my ultimate goal, I will be able to set my mini goals. I believe in mini goals - ultimate goals can be overwhelming  Thanks in advance for any advise out there

When did you take your Bandages off?
Colls replied to pjoy2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had Dermabond, the nurse who discharged me told me not to get them too wet and to not face the oncoming water in the shower. Then when I went to my follow up on Wednesday they told me that she was wrong and that I as allowed to take a real shower. I was told that I could gently wash them and then pat them dry once I am out of the shower. It felt good to take a real shower again! -
It is by Pat Levine and a few other people, but she is the one that is a "Foodie" who got the lap band. Here is the link to amazon.com... Amazon.com: Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery: Over 140 Delicious Low-Fat High-Protein recipes to Enjoy in the Weeks, Months and Years After Surgery (9781569244531): Patt Levine, Michele Bontmpo-Saray, William B. I can make the meals the "normal" way for my husband and then make any necessary adjustments for me.

Wow, congrats! I can't wait until I can fit into a size 14. Keep up the good work

Wow, you are so lucky - I am still on my clear liquid diet! I can't wait for mushies! I bought a couple cans of fat free refried beans and reduced fat Colby Jack cheese and I can't wait to dig into that. I might spice it up with a homemade salsa as well. Soft scrambled eggs are okay - you can even make a sort of omelet. Cook up what you want in there (tomatoes, mushrooms, onion whatever you like) and then throw that mixture into the blender. Then cook it all up together with the egg. I bought this book, Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery and it is wonderful. Every recipe has guidelines for how to prepare each meal for each stage of our diets. I tested out the Zucchine Lasagna recipe a month ago. It tastes great in solid form and in pureed form. There are a number of really yummy soups in their too which are full of protein.

Suggestion About A Good Protein Drink
Colls replied to KRVAUGHAN20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been drinking Unjury's chocolate flavor and I love it. The strawberry is very foamy and has a chalky taste, not a fan of vanilla to begin with so I didn't try that flavor. I mix three scoops with Skim Plus in my Magic Bullet (blender is fine) and put it in my thermos. This is enough Protein for the entire day. I throw the thermos in the fridge at home or work and when I am ready to drink a serving of it it tastes just like a nice cold shake. -
I was banded on the 20th and I feel better everyday. The port site is still sore at times, like when I get up in the morning or if I am sitting at my desk too long. I went back to work on Monday and for me that has helped tremendously both physically and mentally. As for the shakes, I find that the unjury shakes are the best. I really only like their chocolate thought. The strawberry can be very foaming and kinds chalky. I make enough for Breakfast and lunch, put it in my thermos and throw it in the fridge at work. Once I am ready to have a serving it kinda tastes like a nice cold milk shake. My husband even likes them! Congrats and good luck!

Deekel - I have to drink 4 oz of clear liquids every hour, very slowly because the 4 oz must last the whole hour. Three of these hours includes my protein shakes which I treat as "Meals". This is a difficult task because you are constantly looking at the clock. I went back to work today and did not do that well with this!

I was banded on the 20th! I have a question regarding how you feel doing the 4 oz/hour process. I don't feel nauseous but i have this feeling in the back of my throat that I just can't place. Anyone know what I am talking about?

Less than a week to go
Colls replied to ropinthewind21's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was scheduled for the 6th of October. I did the 2 day liquid diet and went to the hospital on the 6th. I was waiting to be rolled into the OR after having two people poking at both my arms to get the IV in - very painful! After the assisting surgeon listened to my breathing they decided to postpone it! I have asthma and it was really acting up because I didn't take my allergy medicine that morning due to the surgery. My point is that I have never had surgery before and I was terrified. I couldn't sleep at all the night before. But now that I went through going to the hospital and almost going into that room - I realize it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I wasn't as scared as I thought I would be. So, next Tuesday I will go in there and do it all again! This is a great thing that you are going to do, you will be fine! Keep us posted! -
Hello All! My name is Colleen and I will (hopefully) be banded on the 20th of October. I was originally scheduled for the 6th, but had some complications. This has been somewhat frustrating because I was all pumped up and ready to go! But anyhoo, my time will come, right?! I am so anxious to get the surgery done, I am a little scared. I have never been in the hospital (for me) let alone had surgery, yikes  I am not required to do a Pre-Op diet, just two days of liquids before surgery, which I did last week when I thought I was getting the procedure done on Tuesday. It was only two days, but I felt like I reeked of chicken broth by the end of it - that is all I could smell! Anyone have a few words of wisdom of what to expect after surgery and how to handle the liquids part? I am not too worried about the mushies because I love to cook and have experimented using a book I bought a couple of months ago. The book is called Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery - I <3 it so much. There are quite a few recipes for the mushie stage that turned out really good (and some that didn't)!
