I am 26 years old, and have always struggled with my weight. Since I knew what the word "fat" meant, I knew that was me. I have wanted this surgery since 2007, but have just gotten to the point of semi-stability in my life (finally settled in a new house, married, working full time, enrolled in grad school, etc) I am now at a place in my life where surgery is feasible. I have completed my 6 months of physician supervised weightloss (lost 17 lbs! Yay!), completed my nutritionist evaluation, psych consult, and exercise consult, and nowI am awaiting my surgery on 4-26-10. I have received my approval letter from my insurance and now I just want to start my two week pre-op diet and get started on my new journey. I am really excited ot have found this website- very informative and, at times, entertaining. Where does everyone else stand in your quest for the band? lol

starting 14 day pre-op diet- what got you through it?

Hello, all! I am starting my 14 day pre-op diet tomorrow qand am in need of some words of encouragement. While I know that this is all going to be worth it in two weeks when I have surgery and eventually down the line when I am healthier and more fit, but it is just a huge psychological step for me and I am having this urge to eat everything in sight just because I know I won't be able to do so again...I know experienced bandsters give some great advice so, don't hold back! Please, what helped you get through this pre-op diet phase? -
BIG Embarassing Moments - Fuel for Success
mishie09 replied to Mamadot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mandilou- I just read your post and burst out into tears- not necessarily bad tears, just tears...I can relate on about 18 of the 20 things you said...I just got my authorization for surgery and am scheduled to have it April 26th...it cant come soon enough. One of my moments: My co workers always bring in their clothes for a clothing exchange...they are maybe a size 12 on a "fat" day...everyone gathers around the clothes and rummages through them...they get the cute Express jeans, business suits, and dresses and I get the scarves, purses and jewelry...it is so embarassing to see everyone going through these small clothes and I get a purse here and there. One time, a coworker brought in a "special skirt just for me"...she gave it to me and said that she was cleaning out her closet and found this skirt from when she was..get this..."fat and lazy, before she started working out"!!! She said she thought of me when she found it! What a skinny biotch!:frown: I wanted to punch her in her prominent little cheek bones! I took it, looked at it and it was a size 14...the last time I wore a size 14 was probably when I was 14!! I was wearing about a size 22 at the time. At least she thought I looked thinner than I was, I guess...silver lining? Anyway, that was a very sad moment for me. I cant wait to one day, be smaller than her size 14 skirt and give that skirt back to her and tell her it doesn't fit- it's too big...that will be the best day ever! lol:wink2: -
JUST scheduled SURGERY! :/
mishie09 replied to photo81's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just received my approval letter from the insurance company and have surgery scheduled for 4-26-10. I am SUUUUPER nervous but equally excited! I am also worried about the skin sagginess, but then I think, it's a trade off. We are going to be working really hard to get to the point of saggy skin- maybe we can look at the sag as a reminder of how far we have come and how hard we have worked...and if other people don't like the skin, tell 'em they don't have to look at it! lol Good luck to you all! Looks like we will all be going through this at about the same time. -

I am just beginning my journey to WLS. I am required to have six months of dr visits before I can get surgery through my insurance company- I am having my second one this week. I am quite nervous, but even more excited! Can anyone tell me what to expect- pain wise, recoop time, eating after surgery, result speeds, etc. Thanks!!
