Anybody else feel this way?
cindyj33 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did they give you an IV antibiotic before surgery? That can cause thrush in your mouth. But it could very be that you are in ketosis and you are burning fat and that will leave a VERY disgusting taste in your mouth, if this is the case it is a good thing. It means your body is "eating" its fat stores!!! -

You may have a touch of the thrush. Its a yeast infection in your mouth. Does your tongue have a white coating on it? -
Are you able take in any fluids?? Be very careful or you will have to go back to the hospital for IV fluids.

They probably irritated your urethra when they inserted the catheter. It should feel better in a couple of days. if it doesn't you may have a urinary tract infection.

I wpuld try Milk of Magnesia watered WAY down. But before I tried ANYTHING I would ask my MD!!! How are you with the pain??

What made you do it.

My experience was as traumatic as this, but when I started having trouble wiping my own butt because I couldn't reach it, that was my dawning point!!!:) -

My name is Cindy I am 38 years old. I have been fat for the majority of my life. When I was in the fourth grade I noticed I was fat. It was when we had our pictures taken and when they came in it was like I saw myself for the first time. When I got home I remember falling down on the bed and crying all evening. My mother tried to console me with words that were at the time meaningless nothing she said helped. So that was my earliest memory of being fat and obviously it stuck with me. I have from that point had low self esteem and with that comes overeating and making bad choices in life that will lead you down a road you don't really need to go down. As I got older the weight was like an ever growing monkey on my back. I tried every diet there is, some I was successful with and others I wasn't. I'm just soooo tired of the yo-yo that I have had with my weight, and I'm ready for a change. For some people in my family they look at lapband surgery as a useless thing and all I have to do is just buckle down and "if you really wanted to lose weight you could", and if you have ever had someone in your life to act that way without having to spend one day in your shoes, you just want to slap the shit out of tham. My husband is my life boat. He is so supportive of my decision for the lapband. I have decided to reach a goal weight of HEALTHY , not of a certain number and I think that is something that I have never done before. I have always been concerned with a certain number and I know that my body will lose weight before my mind will. I will be that fat kid for a long time but I know that eventually my mind and my body will meet up with each other. Imet my surgeon back in May of 2008. His name is Dr. Jay Suggs. He is in Decatur, Al and he was very nice! I set up my 6 month supervised diet I didn't lose anything but I didn't gain either. In June I had all of the required labwork done, EKG, and an ultrasound of my gallbladder, that went well. The ABG's were no fun but I made it through without passing out. Also in June I had my appointment with the Psych MD. That was fun, it took a little longer that I had expected but all in all it was good. My last visit with my Nutritionist was in November of 08 and BC/BS approved me the first time out for a Janurary 09 surgery. I had a small financial setback and I had to put the surgery off until I had the $1,100 for the fees and hospital co-pay. I have it now I am hopefully going to have my surgery in November. Right now my life is looking pretty sweet and I can't wait to have this surgery to help me on this weight loss journey!!

What if I get banded and I don't lose any weight?
cindyj33 replied to mgmagnolia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:thumbup:Most likely what is happening, is your body is trying to compensate for the weight you are losing, which means it is producing Fluid and muscle which weighs more that fat. I have learned over the course of MANY diets that you can stay on the scale. As women we have things happen to us at different times of the month no matter how old we are. More fluids less fluids. Your best bet is to measure yourself.. arms, thighs, waist, hips, even your neck, chances are you will see a difference there before you will on the scale. A scale can be a very depressing peice of machinery. A few years ago I was on the Atkins diet and for 2 months the scale didn't move, but my clothes were getting loose which logically told me that I was losing weight but because the scale didn't provide a certain number I would get depressed, which would make me want just give up. So I threw out the scale and only brought it out MAYBE once a month. So since you are on the Protein shakes your body is most likely burning fat and producing muscle. DON"T worry you are losing, hide your scale!!!!!! -
Did your insurace tell you that they only cover 50% of the surgery?
cindyj33 replied to munkee'smommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lifecare is like home health. When a patient is too far gone for home health and not bad enough for a long term facility they call Me. Yes my number is 13000, I think that you might not have to do the 6 month supervised diet, just call BC/BS, they should be able to tell you everything you need to know. -

Hey Girl, I just got in from work and saw that you too work for the Health Department!!LOL!! I am a nurse for Lifecare, actually I am the ONLY LPN working in Winston Co in the Lifecare Program.. I just wished that meant job security!! Hell I forgot what a raise looked like on my pay stub!!! As for the 6 Month diet, I think BC/BS has changed that recently.. I do know that BC/BS will approve you for a year from the original date they approved you. I thought that I wasn't going to be able to have it done:mad2: until I called the lady at Care Wise, they are the people who actually approve you and send it to BC/BS.When I found tha tout I decided to just save part of my travel checks from now until November. -
Restless Monkey..Why couldn't you have surgery with a thick liver? I was just wondering why they can't go ahead and band since they are already in there..

Curious.... Filled during surgery vs Filled later
cindyj33 replied to Cherishthepast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me he fills during surgery for the same reason.. To leave the port alone for 6-weeks -
Arterial Blood Gases...The most painful Labdraw..WHY?
cindyj33 replied to cindyj33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if all insurance companies require it but BC/BS required it from me!!!!! -

Dr Suggs told me when I went to see for the first time that if I had 12,000 he could do the surgery when ever I was ready...Even though I was ready my bills weren't ready to through that kind of money down and God knows, Gov. Riley doesn't want to pay us what were worth!!LOL I decided to hold off when all of the lay-offs and pay freezes started because I wasn't sure if I was going to have a job!!:bored: -

cindyj33 replied to munkee'smommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:sneaky: I work with the state too!!!I'm with the Health Department in Winston County. The reason I am having surgery in November is I chose to because I didn't have the 1,100 at that time. Then I went through a HUGE bout of depression because I was convinced that I would never be able to save up enough to have it done, but slowly but surely I've almost got it, so have chosen to go for November because we have all those holidays and I won't have to burn as much annual. -

cindyj33 replied to munkee'smommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had several out of pocket expenses... 125.00 for the psych eval, 225.00 for my 6 month supervised diet program, 25.00 co-pay for my surgeon visit, 1,100 for the surgery and hospital co-pay. So far that is the only out of pocket expense... -

Hey, I have BC/BS of Alabama too, I am finished with everything that I have to do, and I should be having surgery in November. I'm having the surgery in Decatur by Dr. Suggs. The payment I was told was $1,100.:bored: -
Hi is any one looking at a date in Oct or Nov?

H Pylori is an antibody that is in the stomach which causes stomach ulcers. It is detected by a simple blood test or they can have you blow into a "balloon"and test the air from the balloon. Its not a big deal.

:tongue2:I'm new to this too. I havent had my surgery yet, but I have done everything that needs to be done, the 6months of visits with a nutritionist, the psych MD visit, bloodwork, EKG, and the three year medical history. I am ready!!! Blue cross and blue shield of Alabama is who I'm with and I had to pay $225 for my nutritionist, $125 for the psych MD, $1,100 for the surgery (out of poocket). I am due to have my surgery in November 09. I hope this helps you!!!:wink2:

I'm new to this thread, this is my first time here. I'm 38, a mother of four, 17,12,11,9. I have been approved for the lap-band by blue cross and blue shield. I was approved for a Janurary, 09 surgery, but didn't quite have the $1,100 for the payment. Now I have rescheduled for November 10th, so hopefully I will be on my way to a healthier and happier life.:scared2:
