Why do I weigh more than when I went to surgery?
dfav3412 replied to rainbowcows's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me I would gain weight just from the IV drip but not to worry about it. If you think that is weird, I had 5 lbs of skin removed from my stomach and was 4 lbs heavier the next morning but again I knew if was from the IV drip and swelling. Don sweat it, everything will work out especially if you do what you are suppose to do. -
or you could say thank you for your input...opinions are like butt cracks - everyone has one

I was lucky, I had a breast lift and that was all I needed. I went from a 46DDD to a 38C. I feel like Jachut that really big boobs look matronly. I asked about implants and my plastic surgeon (woman) said I didn't need them. I am glad I listened to her.

best friend upset because I didn't tell her I was banded
dfav3412 replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She is hurt because she thought she was your best friend and best friends generally share everything. Be honest with her, tell her without being overly critical that you didn't want to tell her because you knew how she felt about weight loss surgery from her comments in the past. Tell her you are sorry that she feels hurt then move on. Either she will move on with you or without you but it is what it is. -
who said you had to get typical breakfast foods at breakfast.....I have what I want focusing on protien but if it is a salad I want then it is a salad I get

Fustrated with lack of weight loss
dfav3412 replied to jen_ngah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I got to put my 2cents in, first of all the weight loss you have or will have is no different than when you were on a strict diet pre banding (we all have been on those). You will lose quickly in the beginning then slow down and stall etc. THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS THAT YOU WON'T BE STARVING like you were with the strict diets we have all been on in the past. Give your body time to heal from the surgery, get the fills when needed and do your part - you will get to goal. -

Ugh! Back ache after fill.....
dfav3412 replied to nebraskahickchi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
after my 4th fill (hard to remember exactly) but I would have pain shoot out from the middle of body where band is positioned thru the back of my shoulder blade on the right side (I always hear it is from the left side). Each fill would do that and the pain would last about 5 days until I lost a few pounds then quit. I was told that when filled it pressed on a nerve and that when I lost a few pounds that the pressure was taken off. The pain was something I could tolerate and even ignore to a point if you know what I mean. If it doesn't go away after a week then I think you might be a smidge too tight and need to get just a "smidge" taken out. The best thing is to talk it over with your doctor and get his/her opinon. -
I had the panni done and insurance did pay for it. My skin wasn't too bad but I did have rashes from time to time. My bariatrics surgeon wrote a wonderful letter for my plastic surgeon to send in along with photo's to the insurance company about why I needed to have the surgery. You know it would be worth the effort to go to the plastic surgeon for an evaluation and then they tell you what they will need from you....mine asked for a letter from my bariatrics surgeon. The worst that could happen is you will be out the co payment to the plastic surgeon should your insurance deny you but you'll never know for sure if you don't give it a try. And just for the record the panni was a great choice for me, my tummy is flat and I have a cute belly button. The other thing which is great is that the surgery is much less painful than a tummy tuck, really I had zero pain which even surprised me. Now, I did have a breast lift done at the same time (still pain free) but I did have to pay for that. It was worth it .

This is a decision you make for you, who else knows better than you what being overweight has caused you mentally and physically. You are choosing to do something positive in your life, to take control instead of your weight controlling you= holding you back in many aspects of living not to mention health. I read this once and it has stuck with me...once you have lost the weight, no one will remember how you did it just that you did. And oh by the way, I am a 3 1/2 year lap band person with a weight loss of 135 lbs. It is one of the best things I have ever done for myself, it will be one of the best things you have ever done for yourself too.

Banded 1/4/10..couple questions
dfav3412 replied to JamesLang's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquids shouldn't bother you but learn not to gulp because as you get fills this could cause some pain. Learn now and you will avoid that. I slept on my stomach around day 5 or 6 with now problems. As long as your scar area you are talking about isn't red and inflamed there should be no problem. You should be seeing your surgeon soon for follow up after surgery. If you do think there is a problem do not hesitate to call him. I'm not computer literate so someone else will have to help you about the rest of the things you are asking. Hope you have a fine journey as you have taken the most necessary first steps. -

Most surgeons do put you under. It isn't a long procedure and is an in and out kinda of thing. I had one done back in Dec. and other than being a little sore in that area (not even enough to take pain meds) it wasn't a big deal for me. Hope it is that way for you too.

Wife is getting attention and is not attracted to me anymore
dfav3412 replied to donaldlovindaddy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First of all I can't believe this is real. -
you sound like you are way to tight which is bad. You have lost the 8 lbs but if you can't get enough calories in you then you won't lose much more. Your body will go into starvation mode and hang on to every ounce it can. I know that sounds strange but it is true. Restriction doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to eat most foods, however there are some foods that aren't band friendly like bread as it tends to gum up. restriction means that you should be satified with 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food and not get hungry between meals. If i were you then i would consider getting a small unfill.

Lack of Support from family and friends...
dfav3412 replied to Price5's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You know you really said it all when you said " I want this for myself and to be happy and healthy finally". That is the answer you can give and just keep repeating it if need be. -
I can't quote this perfectly but you will get the drift of this. You have changed your dance and have tripped up your partner. Give him time to learn the new steps.

Panniculectomy is it as painful to get as it is to pronounce?
dfav3412 replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the panni and a breast lift at same time, I had no pain at all and really no discomfort either. Sometimes I think people have different ideas of what pain is. Pain to me is something that hurts continually and doesn't let up. I think many people confuse pain with discomfort (that is tolerable). That being said I do know surgeries affect people differently and their truly can be pain. FYI, I had an arm lift a few months later and didn't have any pain from that either. My PS told me before I had the surgery alot has to do with the person and their demeanor and that she thought just by observing how I responded to her thru my body language that I would have no or minimal pain. -
No restriction. Whatsoever.
dfav3412 replied to ocbutterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
don't test your band, you are asking for trouble this early in the game. fyi: throwing up can cause slips that is why they put you on clear liquids, liquids, mushies, then solid. You will be hungry before you get your 1st fill. Do your protien shakes, sugar free popcycles, jello, pudding, soups etc whatever you have been instructed to do. You will survive. -
I can understand why people might wonder if the surgery will work for them after all they never had weight loss surgery before. The one thing I do know is that losing weight and keeping it off hasn't worked for the majority of people. Almost anyone can lose the weight but keep it off, well, that's another story....can it be done, yes but your body will fight you tooth and nail and most people balloon back up to their weight and bring along a few more friends in the form a extra pounds. Weight loss surgery isn't to be taken lightly but neither is being obsese. The toll that being obsese takes on a person mentally and physically especially if they have been that way all their lives and then having something that finally helps frees them of this burden is beyond what I can express in words. I am 3 years out from surgery, at goal, and for the first time in my life am in control of my weight. It was worth it to me now you just got to have faith it is worth it for you....

hey Joanie, I don't see you too much in the chat room, how is it going? The last time I talked to you, you were feeling better about things including your support group. Hope it still is that way.

Getting my arms done would love to hear from people who have had theirs done!
dfav3412 replied to Wishes4444's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
scars are only visiable if I lift my arms up to show them, yes I wear sleeveless dresses/blouses. I can live with the scars better than I could the loose, wrinkled old lady arms. I am very pleased.
