My story is much like others… I gained weight, tried several “diets”, wasn’t successful. However, I can tell you why I chose to have the lap-band surgery. Three major factors played into my decision. First, overall health; obesity runs on one side of the family. Second, who I thought I was on the outside didn’t match the person I saw in the mirror and most importantly the third reason. I have been trying to have a baby. I want nothing more than to be a mom. This is my first step in achieving my goals. Let me back up for a moment and give you a little background on me. I will be married 4 years in August and although my husband loves me dearly and for whom I am, I do not look like I did when we first started dating and I long for that. He has been my rock through this life changing process. We have been through and have seen many struggles to say the least. Our first year of marriage, we’d been tested in every way. We are fortunate that it only served to bring us closer together. About 2 years ago, my husband and I attended a Christ Centered Recovery Group held at our church. Now, let start by saying that I am not an Alcoholic nor so I have a problem with narcotics, I simply went because of life’s hurts, habits, and hang-ups. In time, I came to the realization and needed to admit that I had an addiction. Food! Yet even if I understood what was going on, I nonetheless sought comfort in the arms of food. But, once I had admitted the problem I could begin to work on the solution. I gained strength when I started living my days, One Day at a Time! So, I started looking into the lap-band. Researched allot, talk to those I could about pre and post op. On May 19, 2009 I went to my first doctor’s appointment and on June 29, 2009 I had the lap-band surgery. I am currently on week two (post surgery) heading into week three. I still have questions and I still have lots a work ahead of me. But, I know I can do anything I put my mind to and I have lots of support from friends and family! I look forward in looking forward and excited as the results unfold with my new stomach, a new me! My nick name that my husband gave me when I started my recovery was Warrior Princess. And, I am! I am dedicated to my life-changing experience and I am so looking forward to having my family!
