Mental Breakdown!
StarsZie replied to lovelytxlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through so many emotions as well. I think for me it was knowing that for the first time in my life I actually did something for me that was the right thing to do. I knew when I went back to work, those that I had told would come and talk to me and see how I was doing, etc. I also knew that once I started to talk about it others in the office would hear. I wasnt so sure I was up for all the attention. So... I cried and doubted myself. I did it often. Once the weight really started to come off I started to feel better. Having support of friends and family helped too. This message board is also a good place to come and see what others have to say and if they share your feelings. All I can really say to you is trust in yourself and the decisions you've made. Turn to a close friend or family member you feel comfortable talking to and just "let it out"... you'll be OK. It is overwhelming in the beginning but it gets better. -
LOL!!!! That happened to me last week too... I always tell a friend of mine... "it's the little things" that make me happy!
-
Ditto on the crossing legs business! I couldn't cross right over left but now I can both right over left and left over right!!! LOL Seems funny but I sit with my legs crossed so much more now. I even find myself sitting on the couch hugging my knee's - who'd have ever thought that was going to be possible?!?!?

Dr. Timothy Ehrlich - A very great surgeon
StarsZie replied to mommy2gabby's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
How did the seminar go? What doctor was the speaker? -
You could always choose eggs or cottage cheese. Something like that? I went out to eat with my family yesterday and got a mushroom swiss burger without the roll but I also got a side of mashed potatos. I ended up bringing most of it home, but at least I was able to eat something! :crying:

2 days post op question
StarsZie replied to brent0517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Brent, I didnt gain any weight, but were you in the hospital overnight? Or did you have a couple of IV's? Maybe it's just Water retention or your body saying "whoa where's my calories? i'm gonna hang on to what i have for a bit longer." before letting go. I know it's hard but try to be patient. It will happen. -
Hi... I was determined before my surgery to be able to stick to a 1000 calorie a day diet. So from January to June I lost 41 lbs on my own. Since the surgery I lost another 40! It's so hard to believe I'm almost out of the 190's! So surreal to even type that! How close are you to ONEderland?

Nervous.....surgery date is set for June 8th
StarsZie replied to mustang07babey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Mommy1 - Nancysmiles hit the nail on the head. You wont even know they put the tube in to help you breathe - trust us. I had my WLS 6/16/09 - went in around lunch time and was home before dinner time. Not that I wanted to eat because I didnt feel hungry at all. Though you do have to drink 1oz of fluid every 15 minutes. It's definitley a change but a good one in the long run. You'll get it... it's what you want, right? You'll do just about anything to feel look better? This is what you are going to the docs and sessions for, right? Get off meds that you're on because of the excess weight? So many positive things can come from your new best friend! (your band!) Try not to think about the short term, but rather the long term... visualize yourself a year from now! Hang in there... good luck on your journey! -
Leaving you guys - getting band removed and having gastric bypass.
StarsZie replied to cookiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi cookiebaby... I'm sorry you have to go through this... I wish you all the very best - good luck and stay strong! -
You can look at this from wikipedia: Borborygmus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia There really is no way to stop it... it's just normal digestive noises. Realizing we seem to get it much more often since being banded I think it may have to do with not chewing as much as we probably should before swallowing thus letting larger pieces of food enter the digestive system. Hope this helps.

I'm getting so discouraged right now. I haven't lost anything in almost 2 weeks. Matter of fact I've been going up and down like a yo yo by 3 lbs. I know it's not much in the scope of things... but i'm so discouraged. I was banded on 6/16/09 and have lost 32 lbs since then. Yes of course it's a victory but why the plateau? I've been exercising and eating right... getting my protien and water in. Anyone else having or had this issue? If so, how did you break through? The other thing is that I'm getting myself back into a depressed state and feeling lonely again. Not doing so good right now. :tongue2:

Reasons I'm Thankful for my Band (add yours)
StarsZie replied to BandedCG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just came from my Endocrinologist... all my blood work levels are down that are supposed to be down and those that are supposed to be up are up! He said and I quote... "You're a new woman!". I'm off my BP meds and only on one now for my thyroid. (I had 1/2 removed many years ago from a tumor) I'm also thankful that i'm no longer a 26 and wearing a 12... just bought 10's over the weekend! Don't remember the last time I wore 12's never mind 10's! -
What Age Were You When You Got The Lap Band Surgery?
StarsZie replied to MsFab1988's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
47... promised myself I wouldn't be fat and 50! Banded June '09 down 80 lbs so far! -
I was banded this past June. Prior to the band I lost 41 lbs and since the band another 39 lbs. With an 80 lbs loss it's been hard for me not to tell the truth. I'm really bad at lying anyway. There are two other folks in my off that have had WLS done. One LP the other GBP. So, I've decided to tell people. I guess it helps to keep me focused as well, the more that know the more that will help to keep me accountable. I'm not ashamed anymore... I used to be but now I look at my LB as my friend, the one that I can count on to help me stay on track. It's a personal choice so It's up to you. I see that most people here haven't really told anyone so I guess I'm the unusual one. ;o)

That's awesome that you're riding and weight lifting. Maybe that's what I need to start to do... lift weights. :tt2:
-
Walking is a great way to exercise. You can start walking if you're not already. Once your stitches are healed you're all set to go! Congrats and good luck on your journey!
-
Hi Sandy, Do you go for walks at all? I noticed the first time I hit a plateau that I needed to get my butt outside and go for a walk. I started with 15 minutes and have since worked myself up to an hour. The other day I finally got on my ellipital and did 30 minutes on there. So I get the frustration piece where we work so hard and see no scale results. How do your cloths fit? Have you taken any measurements? Sometimes we can have a non-scale victory. Hang in there... I'm with you... we can do this, right?
-
Oh! Good Luck! I lost about 1.5 lbs yesterday since the fill, but then I'm on liquids. I really hope this is just what I needed. A kick in the butt. The one thing I have to try to keep reminding myself is that I didnt get like this overnight and so I really need to stop expecting it to come off overnight. I guess i'm just anxious because I'm beginning to like what I see. For the first time since high school I'm able to walk into any store and buy clothing off the racks!
-
Me too! I do stop when I get them. The borborygmi (gas bubbles) can occur when there is undigested food in the intestines. I have been paying a lot of attention to this since I sorta sound like a garbage truck! So... If I really pay attention and chew chew chew... it's not as bad. Maybe try that and see if that helps.)

How do you feel after your fills?
StarsZie replied to thebandedgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I guess you really shouldn't "feel" much different except when you have your meals. You should feel fuller faster and stay fuller longer. That's really the only difference. I have to say after my first fill I did have major shoulder pain for about 24 hours. The PA told me it was because the band was pushing on my diaphram and caused the pain (I had 2cc's at that time). After my second fill I felt like I had just eaten a Thanksgiving meal. (1 cc) Then yesterday I had 1cc again and I felt fine, no different after the fill. I do notice today I have to drink a little slower than I had been and I'm sure that has to do with the added restriction for which I am extremely please about. It takes a while to get to that "sweet spot"... I think i'm just about there. You'll get there too! -
OK... so here's an update. I just got back from the doc's office. I got another cc so I'm up to 4cc's in a 10cc band today. I'm hoping this will help me start losing again. How frustrating to be walking and exercising and such to only lose 1 lbs in 6 weeks! Wish me luck. )

Nervous is good - means you are really thinking about things. This is a fun place to be too to bounce things off of. BTW... got my fill... i'm a happy camper again! -
I was banded on 6/16/09 - so neat to see those who share the same 'birthday'! ;o)

Hi Amy, Advice? Sure! Take it all in... ask questions, bring someone with you if you can who can listen with you. Congratulations on taking the first step! Dr. E is really nice, easy to talk to and cares about his patients. He did my band on 6/16/2009 - as a matter of fact I'm going to see him today for a fill. Good Luck! - Lynn -
How do you feel after your fills?
StarsZie replied to thebandedgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I had my first fill... I didnt feel any different except I had major shoulder pain! The PA said that the filled band may have pushed on my diaphram which then in turn caused the pain. It did subside after a day or so. But after my second fill I felt like I had just eaten a full Thanksgiving meal! I felt that full feeling for a couple of days until the swelling went down. I'm good now. I went for a 3rd fill and the doctor wouldnt fill the band anymore. He said that my weight loss was going really well and since I had occasional issues with food getting stuck he wanted to be sure I could handle the fills without the possibility of stretching out my pouch. So, I guess for the most part I'm at my "sweet spot" but would like just a smidge more to be honest. We'll see what happens in a few weeks.
