Hey all  I just got home from my surgery/hospital stay and.. my first thought was wanting to post here. Anyway.. my aetna BcBs required i stay the night, so i did. I was soooo very nervous.. all the way up until when i was sitting in pre-op with the leg pumpers on(those rocked) and they gave me my first "relaxing drug" I remember saying bye to my parents and brother.. who were all in pre-op with me.. i remember the door opening.. and i dunno what they gave me but I was out before i hit the elevator to go up to surgery. I woke up an hour later in recovery asking the nurse "when do i go in?" So.. at first I had a lot of gas pain.. the hospital nurses were absolutely amazing.. sitting and talking to me and helping me with every thing I could think of. Within a few hours I was off my oxygen, able to drink juice and was walking around the hallways of my hospital floor for 5-10 min at a time. (granted I was on liquid vicodin and gas-X) turns out my doctor does dieting very differently. I am right off on full liquids, then i move to pureed foods on the 17th (friday) and I go in for my first potential fill on the 30th of July. (go on soft foods the 29th, and if everything is well solid foods on the 11th of august). I actually rented a recliner to chill in for a couple weeks.. but my experience so far has been entirely positive.. and once these few initial first days of pain and discomfort pass.. i'll like it even more im sure.

ya know I was scared right up until I went into pre-op and they gave me the relaxing meds. BUt.. im home now.. my insurance required i stay 24 hours, so I did. im doing alright.. yeah i feel bloated.. and.. i have some pain.. but it's nothing at all what i thought it would be. It feels like i did 500 crunches in a row sorta thing.. stay strong.. i feel a LOT better now than i did 36 hours ago. It is something that is a tool to let us be healthy.. and im taking the babysteps at the moment.

I have a question about weight goals. My surgeon has never mentioned it to me at all. Is this something everyone is coming up with on their own, or is this something your doctor/surgeon is letting you know? Just wondering if I am missing out on something.. and with surgery only 3 days away I am sort of double and triple checking things. :frown: Thanks!

Hello All My name is Joe, I am 28. I work in IT at a school district in Michigan as tech support for a few buildings that are assigned to me. Always been a "big guy" and I knew I was overweight and tried various diets and stuff. However a year and a half ago my doctor said I was killing myself by being so heavy (was 325 at the time) She put me on a diet, which ended with me gaining 15 lbs and having ZERO energy at being really grumpy all the time. She wanted to try another diet I tol dher no and pursued surgical options. I jumped through the hoops set out by Aetna BcBs, and am now approved witha surgery date of July 14th. Which i am not going to start calling my second birthday I think. :frown: Loving the boards so far, and hope to be able to get to know you all as we share our journeys.

love these threads.. thank you all so much for sharing your experiences! My day is coming up on the 14th.. a week ago I was really dreading it.. wondering if I should push back surgery, etc.. But reading all the experiences here have helped greatly. I now am ready, and even excited to get it started and get the "grunt phase" over! Thank you!

Hello Everyone! Having my surgery July 14th. Starting to get a little nervous now that i can count on one hand the days until my surgery!!!
-
hello there! Looks like you and I are having our surgeries on the same day. Good luck to you! I think the pre-diet depends on the doctor. After reading through the forums I actually called the PAT nurse and my surgeon's office and was told by both of them that they require a 24-hour pre-op diet, but nothing extending out beyond that.

Hello to all the readers out there @ lapbandtalk.com my name is Joe, and I am having lapband surgery on the 14th of July 2009. My Dr. is Dr. Nunn who is a surgeon at the Barix Clinics in Ypsilanti, Mi. I am 6'1" and currently tipping the scales at 354lbs. I have tried various diets and exercise routines. I currently have joint pain, bad asthma (inhaled steroids daily to control), Acid Reflux, and have had several severe bouts with depression. (taking daily meds for that also) My mother's family has always had weight issues, and my mother herself has successfully had a Gastric Bypass and lost over 70% of her excess body weight. She encouraged me to pursue weight loss surgery because of her constant observation at my unsuccessful attempts to loose weight. So.. here I am.. a bit nervous, bit scared, bit excited.. mostly.. just ready to have the surgery and start building a new, healthy, me. I will be updating my progress, thoughts, issues, etc.. on my twitter page.. feel free to follow me, or if anyone else is doing the same please pm or post your twitter account so i can follow you as well! www.twitter.com/jojocourt
