HELP...Is this the right thing to do???????
KariK replied to April's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi April, I have a very difficult mom too, and I have not told her. I don't plan to tell her anytime soon if ever. I've lost 18 lbs and I just say Im dieting and exercising which I am. I have only told my husband and my sister. Im really glad personally that I kept it under wraps im the type of person that doesn't like to be the center of attention and I know it would absolutely drive me nuts to have ppl questioning me about it all the time. The thing is you can always tell ppl later if you want, but once you tell you can't take it back. The jitters you are having are normal! I had them too but so far so good and I have no regrets. Best of luck to you, you'll be fine. -
Shucks you guys, if you keep saying all the nice things to me im going to not only be a scale addict but a picture addict. LOL I generally hate pictures of myself so that would be a big nsv for me !!! Thank you so much.

Here's what I did to lose the weight so fast
KariK commented on Telly's blog entry in Telly's Journal
You know what that totally makes sense to me. Ive been wishy washy myself about getting a fill for those very reasons. I think due to your success im going to try to go fill free for awhile and see how much I can lose too. Thanks Telly!! PS Ive been exercising because of your success from the exercising lol. Keep doing good things I seem to copy you lmao. -
I was outpatient for mine and immediately after waking up from anesthesia they handed me a room temp bottle of water I was able to drink it right away and was done with it after about 2 hrs. and then drank another one within another two hours, then pee'd and then went back to my hotel room. The next day I had an atkins protien drink (premixed not from powder) doctors orders to drink 3 of them a day and as much water as I could plus some juice or skim milk. Within about 5 days I started to drink slightly thicker liquids like blendered soup, then after 7-8 days creamier liquids like creamed soups, cream of wheat made with lots of liquid, blendered pea soup etc. but not until after noon, I started every day with a protein shake (premixed). After two weeks I was eating soft to mushy foods like mashed potatoes, thicker cream of wheat, mashed egg salad, super mashy chicken salad, etc. Week three soft foods like scrambled eggs with bits of hotdog mixed in, baked potatoe with chees sauce, baked beans, soup with chunks in it like chicken soup etc., and week four onto pretty regular food but still being VERY careful and not eating anything too difficult like steak or anything. Making sure whatever I ate was somewhat tender and moist. At all stages and even now I avoid bread, pasta, and rice. Haven't had any of them yet.

Someone should do one of these where it goes off of percentage of weight lost like they do on that show Biggest Loser. It would be easy you'd just type in your starting weight at the time the competition starts under your ending weight at the time the competition ends like this 200/210 = 9.5% lost. That way ppl that weigh 500 pounds can compete fairly with ppl who weigh 250 etc. Does this make sense? Maybe you could do one like that Julie? Im too lazy to host one myself lol.

Hey Telly, I just have one question, I was going to PM you but then I thought it might be a good idea to post it here so other ppl can see your response too. Why have you chosen not to have any fills? -
My husbands outside pressure washing the front deck, the lawn is mowed, the house is cleaned, the kids had baths, and last and most importantly (jk) I lost another pound!! yes! I ate over 1400 calories yesterday and still saw a markedly lower number pop up on my scale. Exercise is the key! Im pretty much getting used to my portions now and have learned pretty well what I can/can't eat, and what pace I have to eat at. Yayyy, the band is great. 7:30 am Breakfast: 13 oz. Chocolate calorie countdown milk + 1 scoop unjury. 10:00 am Snack: SF chocolate pudding. 12:00 pm Lunch: 1/4 Cup egg salad, 1/2 cup tuna salad, 1/4 of an Avacado mashed, 15 Kashi crackers. 5:00 pm Supper: A few bites of ribs, 1/2 cup mashed potatoes, a few bites of broccoli. 6:00 pm Desert: My husband begged to go to DQ, bad bad I gave in and had 1/2 a fudge sundae. Water: > 80 oz. Vitamins: 1 flinstones, 2 tbs liquid multi, 1500 mcg biotin, 1 calcium chew. Exercise: 25 Min. 3mph treadmil + 5 Min. 4mph jogging. Goal: Exercise! I think its key, you don't even have to lose a lot of weight to see a big differance in how you look and feel.

Hey Steph, I think the situation Michelle mentioned hit the nail on the head about your sis, she's quietly competetive with you. But you'll never really know if you don't ask her whats up. Maybe she feels since you take after your dad's side of the family you and he always had a 'special' bond that she just didn't get have? I mean who knows really, but if you are really curious about it just ask her. Do you have other sisters? I only have one and she's probably the person Im closest to in the world next to my husband. We get into it once in awhile but the thing that keeps us bonded is our honesty with each other, we both know how important we are to each other. In fact her and my husband are the only ppl who know about my lapband. I guess my point is, is that its good to always try to deepen relationships that are important to you. But if she just won't, or just can't because of some mental problem or something then at least you know in your heart you gave it your best effort and its HER problem. And then you've got to just let it go. And maybe you are already at that point too have tried to work it out with her. Thats where im at with my mother, Ive tried to be closer to her but after awhile I just realized we are two totally differant ppl and its not possible for me to let my guard down completely around her. I've even spoken with a professional about it. Sometimes its healthy to build a wall to protect yourself from someone I think. My mom is very competetive with me. I think jelousy is the worst emotion, and ruins many a relationship. LOL ok im going to stop typing now because I could sit here and type all day apparantly.

Hehehe *big grin* thanks .

1. No he has no idea, as far as I know, lol and he never will hopefully!! Why? Um because he thinks I weigh 170 and thats fine with me!! I'll keep him in lala land where im way hotter than I am lol! 2. Anytime someone passes around pictures from some event and I'm in one of them I want to just grab that photo right out of their hands and burn it! Apparantly I live in lala land too, pictures don't lie, but I swear I think I look WAY worse in photos. Hate them, hate people looking at them of me. Its embarrassing.

LOL dezadoo, when you are skinny will you consider yourself annoying? If skinny people are annoying .. why do we want to be skinny? When we get skinny will we suddenly feel all great about ourselves and never complain about our bodies again? I know for a fact that when I was skinny in HS, I thought I was sooo fat. I wore like a size 7-9 and was muscular and fit! Yet I compared myself to those naturally thin people who were long an lanky in their size Zero's. Now adays I just want to be healthy and fit and my personal best... and smaller than my husband would be nice. I worry about my daughters growing up in this world of perfection expectations in the media. Its so sad isn't it? I haven't raised a teenager yet but I truly hope I can be bonded to my girls and not annoyed too much by them. I had a friend in HS who had a great relationship with her mom and boy I wished I had that, but it wasn't possible with my mom. I hope it can be possible with my daughters. Time will tell, I think getting healthy and having a more positive self image will help because I'll be able to be more active with them. My Julia is blessed with tallness and she's thin and fine boned. My Luciana is built more like me lol thick, but she's only 4 months so .. maybe her dad's genes will kick in yet!
