I was born to a diabetic mother, and weighed 11 pounds at birth! My most vivid memory of childhood is having to buy "chubby" size clothes at Sears and Roebuck, when shopping for school clothes. I have been overweight my entire life, sometimes heavier than others, but always overweight. My highest weight before the lap band surgery was 270 pounds, and the decisions I made every day of my life has been affected by my size. It is difficult to feel encouraged when you are so disgusted with the way you feel and look. I have tried every diet you can think of over the years, and yes I have lost weight. However, no matter how much I lost, it always came back, and most of the time brought extra pounds with it. I've been to Weight Watchers so many times I got ashamed to go there anymore, because I had failed so many times. I guess to me food has been like a close friend and companion that I loved with all my heart; still do. One of the hardest decisions I have ever made in my life was to say goodbye to that long term relationship with such a close and beloved friend. However after years and years of trying, I don't seem to be able to do it on my own. I was banded on 07-07-09, and I pray that God will guide me through this journey and help me to know before I die what it feels like to run, swim, dance (shag), cross my legs comfortably and feel good about myself in a pair of jeans!
