I am waiting to get my authorization for the sleeve-worst case scenerio I will have to get the band again Amy -
Stitches or Glued???
Amy1981 replied to GraciesMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually only have 1 small incision and a small dot (for the liver retractor. I only had glue on my incision. My Dr. only does a small incision for the port (if he is able to) there are some factors he looks for after he makes the cut. My husband had 4 small cuts (same DR) . I guess every Dr. Is different and every patient. -
kinda skipped the mushy food diet
Amy1981 replied to dragoncreature's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also was banded on Oct 13 and I am following every rule my doctor and nutritionist has given me. I do not want my band to slip plus I seen the stories about band slippage and I still think God everyday my insurance covered my band so the least I can do is comply. I am on Soft/moist foods which is prolly what the Dr calls mushy foods...like eggs, cottage cheese, and refried Beans..I refuse to not be a success story.... Just my opinion of course Amy! -
How many pounds have you guys lost in your first 2 weeks after surgery
Amy1981 replied to iHaveh0pe3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the surgery on Oct 13..and including the 7 day pre liquid diet I have lost 18 pds...havent lost anything in the last 4-5 days..which is around when I started soft/moist foods....I have my first fill in 3 weeks so I am hoping that I start losing again..even a pound a week would be nice..hahaha Amy! -
Ok so I had surgery on Oct 14, 2009 everything went great. I was able to get the surgery with just 1 incision and 1 small pen hole instead of the 4-5 areas. I have no hunger and feel really restricted when it comes to feeling full only problem is whenever I eat something (I am on liquids but can have sugar free pudding or yogurt) I immediately have to go to the bathroom. I usually go for what seems like until the small amount of pudding is out of me. I am not lactose intolerant and I though there was no dumping. For example I can eat a small yogurt (3oz) and 5 mins later I can hear my stomach acting crazy. The sound is kinda traveling and immediate have to go to the bathroom (numerous times). I havent had solid food since like Oct 7 and didnt start really going again till after the surgery. Anyone have this problem? Is it just me? Thanks:ohmy:

October 2009 Surgery Date?
Amy1981 replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is Oct 14th..Today is my 1st day of the liquid diet...My hubby's surgery is Oct 27th. We were trying to get the same day or week but he had work conflicts. I cant wait! -
My stepdad had the gastric sleeve in Tijuana a few months ago. It went well though he didnt like the environment. He has no regrets but will not go back. He said one of his nurses was about 15 years old and that freaked him out but she did a good job and was trained by the doctor.

Anyone w/ Sentara Norfolk?
Amy1981 replied to Katycando's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I am with Norfolk Surgical and also have Dr. Fontana. I have completed all my requirements and just waiting for my surgery date! How long did it take to get your surgery date? Thanks! -
Thanks for the advice. We are hoping at least 1 week apart but right now I think we just want to do it so we will take any date. We do have a great support system too. So we will see! Nice meeting you! Amy

Hey everyone! Just wanted to Introduce myself and talk on the site more now that I am getting closer to the surgery time. I have been reading the site for months but hardly responded to threads. I am 28 years old with a BMI of 40. I am about half way through all my stuff and will be completed Sept 5. So then my Dr. can scheldue my surgery. I have done the Support Group (it was a little boring). Not that I didnt like the people it was just everyone seemed to be a lot older then me. And they were complaining alot about the food restrictions and talking about how to cheat. The first hour was spent talking about how to organize your home. I wanted to talk about the LapBand! But I guess they get tired of talking about it. I have my Psych Eval tomorrow and then I take my Psych Eval test (its like a 2 hour test) at the end of the week. My Nutrition class is next Thursday and I am getting my Labs done next week. Thats all I need to do. My company's insurance has "Obesity Clause" in it so it means they specifically wrote in that they will pay for WLS. You just have to be 40 BMI or 35-40 with 1 comorb. I have no co morb so I meet because I am 40 BMI. My sister had gastric 5 years ago and she has a lot of little problems so I figured LapBand was better for me. My hubby is also getting the surgery. All of our appointments are the same days..so we may even get the surgery the same day! Can't wait to start this Journey! I cant wait till I get my surgery date. I have heard it prolly will be the end of October/early November. Nice to Meet everyone!

Lots of times if you look at your bank statement and highlighted any purchases like fast food, coffee stops, or movies/entertainment you would be surprised that you may have already had the $1000.00. If it was me I would not eat out, go anywhere, and shut my cable off just to get that money. Its a small sacrafice but in the long run worth it. Good Luck I am sure it will all work out!

So I have a BMI of like 37 and I have not really been to the doctor's at all except to give birth to my kids. I am going to go have a physical to see if I have any co-mor and I am getting tested for Sleep Apnea ( my first appt is next week) Do you think if I find out I have Sleep Apnea or high blood pressure I could get approved by my insurance. My insurance does cover the Lapband and many people in my office have had it. They cover 35-40 with 1 co-mor or 40+ with none. Do I need a history of it or can I just get newly diagnosed?
