I was always the type that said I would never have surgery to loose weight. To a certain extent, I felt that surgery was a "cop-out". Boy was I wrong. My weight continued to increase due to bad decisions on my end and PCOS having a mind of its own. Right now it is just hours before surgery and the biggest regret I have is not realizing sooner that I needed to make the decision earlier. It has take me 3 years to make it here from going back and forth with whether or not to have surgery to dealing with the insurance protocols. I am ready now, both mentally and physically. I have to do this for me and only me, but boy, do I have good incentives to keep me going. I have a wonderful husband that I want to grow old with, a beautiful 3 year old daughter who is my life, and the unfortunate situation of watching my dad slowly kill himself as I was with weight. I don't want to be his age and know that the likely hood of be alive to see a ripe old age is almost nul. My dad just turned 51 and is about 450lbs. That is where I was headed. Once I decided to have surgery, I thought I would have the bypass until I had talked to my surgeon and found out the pros and cons of both the bypass and the band. The band won out hands down. Not what I expected to happen, but definitely glad to be going with this route.
